Property Ratings at MAA Howell Commons
It's my first apartment alone and the team in the leasing office were so welcoming and patient with all my questions and they made the process very easy. I can hear my upstairs neighbors throughout the entire day (and night), but it's expected in an apartment and still much quieter than my previous home so it's not a big problem. The kitchen cabinets are quite outdated but the appliances are all brand new! Despite it being pet friendly, there are no signs of the previous tenants having a pet which is great. My hot water lasts about ten minutes but I can adjust to that. There were a few quick power outages in my first week here, maybe due to the below freezing temps, but the leasing office addressed the issue promptly and communicate very well via email and it hasn't been an issue since. The community is peaceful and the residents are friendly. Overall I'm happy with my decision to move here.

Great, cozy apartments, a little on the older side, The kitchen is outdated but if you don't have any people over then who cares. The carpet was professionally cleaned before I moved in, and all things were painted. Everyone is quiet here in building 11, never had any problems with anyone.

Hi, we are very happy we could provide you with a positive experience! Thank you so much for your feedback! We hope you have a great day!
They intentionally locked me out of the payment portal since I'm not renewing my lease. I took my payment to the office and they stated that they were not taking my payment unless I pay the late fee. The payment is due on Sunday and they are closed. They told me I should take off work to pay them. This place is ridiculous. The office staff are really nasty and unprofessional.

Howell commons is a nice quiet community, the staff are so friendly and maintenance is great about getting any problems we have fixed quickly! We have enjoyed our time so far here! They made our move in super easy the only complaint I have is that when we first walked in to the apartment certain spots in the carpet smelt of pee making me think it wasn’t cleaned properly after the last tenants thankfully we had a carpet cleaner and after a few cleans it smells as good as new! Other than that minor issue we love it here!

Continuous problems with them shutting your water off. Honestly do not believe the price is worth the apartment. The lock on our door is awful. Make sure to see how much your fees are before you rent.

So I give this place a 3 star The good things its really quiet relax setting I didn't see my neighbors for several months before I moved in. Everytime put in a request it was handled pretty quickly This apartment complex is pretty close to anything you can think of Cons So my first day moving in my apartment smell like cigarette really strong as we did the walk through i strongly believe the apartment shouldn't have been rented like that however since the apartment was clean and new or like new rugs not sure I quickly open the windows and ran my air purifier as well as them changing the air filter the smell went away within a couple days The other only con is palmetto bugs keep coming in when the temperature seems to drop outside

I have lived at Howell Commons since 2000. I have been satisfied with my overall stay. I have had good neighbors for the most part. The cost to live here is reasonable. Maintenance comes in a timely manner. The location is the reason I have remained for so long.
Very pleasant but residents do not pick up after their dogs. That's unacceptable.

Peace of mind. Safe. Great location.
Its quiet and for most part neighbors are respectful and friendly..The staff is very helpful and curteous to your needs.
The only problem I have had in the past year is neighbors leaving trash bags outside their door for days and days
It's been great
Quiet, rules enforced, friendly staff
My apartment complex is well-kept, clean, and relatively quiet. All of my maintenance requests are answered promptly and courteously. The administrative staff is friendly and helpful.

HC is and has been for many years now a safe home away from home...the manager and leasing staff is wonderful!
I've been here 9 years now. Love the staff - quite, no trouble - nice place to call home
We love living here, it's peaceful and nicely kept. We've been here for 5yrs now. Only problem is price of apartment vs the size, rent keeps going up

It has been a relaxing experience thus far.
My experience here has been fine. If I have a maintainence issue, it has always been addressed quickly. The complex is centrally located to mist places in Greenville County.
Everyone is friendly and helpful!
I really like my apartment and the location. I feel as though the price is slightly steep though. The folks in the front office are great. Very friendly and helpful.
Howell Commons has a bunch of thieves and evil people working there in the front office and the maintenance crew. They come into your apartment when you aren't there and go through your things. They cover mold patches with paint even though the mold is still there and they always find a reason to come in your apartment on a weekly basis. They show the nice apartments when you visit but move you in a raggedy apartment with appliances from the 1980s. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND HOWELL COMMONS TO ANYONE!! THEY SUCK!!

Things I hate about this place are as followed: 1) DRUGS AND POLICE: There are drugs being taken and sold all throughout the complex. Just this past weekend my wife and I went to the pool and a group was smoking weed to the left of the entrance. Five people were in the pool getting drunk with beers in their hand. Obviously there isn't much Howell Commons can do about this since it was a Sunday, but when I made them aware of it and informed I had pictures of the residents so they could speak with them.....*shoulder shrugs.* The cops are here all weekend, every weekend...including a Forensics truck and three cop cars at my building this particular weekend. Not sure what that was about and I probably don't want to know. It is not safe here. 2) USELESS DOG PARK: If you're a pet owner, don't let them sell you on the dog park. There are at least forty piles of poop within the fences every time I go there. It is unhealthy for the dogs and ridiculous for me to have to walk around these landmines. The same thing goes for the complex as a whole. Residents do not pick up after their dogs. I was a waiter at a restaurant for 11 years. I didn't want to have to clean up after a table's filth any more than the apartment staff wants to pick up poop, but it came with the territory. No one wants to dine out at a dirty and disgusting table just like no one wants to go to a dog park full of poop. 3) THEY'RE MONEY HUNGRY AND THEY DON'T CARE: Over the last couple of months I've been planning a wedding and honeymoon and trying to go through the home-buying process as a first time purchaser. It slipped my mind to turn in a 60 Day Notice to Vacate. I was four days late on it. Since I make my payments on time and they haven't heard a peep out of me, I figured surely they would let this slide as it is not a big deal. No real difference between having a 60 day notice that I'll be leaving as opposed to a 56 day notice. NOPE! They are charging me $115 no questions asked. I've already spoken with the Property Manager AND Corporate. Both told me "tough luck." SUPERIOR service??? You missed me with that one! Here's the thing- if they'll charge me for something so silly and not even try to show that superior customer service that they speak of, what will they make YOU owe when you leave the apartment and there are minor repairs due? I'm already preparing myself for the bogus charges they try to stick on me when I leave, as it is evident they want my money and not my satisfaction.
Really bad service, the management are only interested in the money, safety it's not a priority for them, they would not care nothing for you if you have safety concerns, they let anybody get into the apts(ex: domestic violence, crazy people that shoot at your door, etc) you will see police officers very often. If you have kids don't get this apts, they are just good looking.
If I could give Howell Commons less than 1 star I would! I am a resident at Howell Commons...well, Let me rephrase that, I have a unit at Howell Commons, but I don't actually live at Howell Commons. I moved in April 16th. The very first time I opened my apartment the smell of cigarette smoke smacked me in the face. Had I not had movers behind me I wouldn't have moved in. After the movers left I cried for about 30 min straight because I knew I had made a huge mistake. I left and didn't return for about 3 days. I went back and decorated and tried to make it feel like home. The apartment constantly stunk, I cleaned and cleaned and After two weeks of constant smell of cigarette smoke, weed, mustiness, I left to not return again. I contacted the office staff, the property manager and the regional manager. Their only solution was to have it cleaned and have a permanent ozone machine placed in the unit. A PERMANENT OZONE MACHINE!!! I don't think living in a place with a permanent ozone machine is very safe for my health. So, it's either that or pay the $3000 to terminate my lease though it's not my choice to terminate. Terrible place, terrible management. They don't care about their residents. Worst choice I ever made. Do NOT move to Howell Commons!
My apartment is great - I love the staff - been living here now 6 years - very close to most everything I do and very convenient and accessible - I love my apartment -
The office staff is very friendly and courteous, couldn't ask for better. The buildings need some serious pressure washing and only a handful of units have upgrades..... they all need them. My kitchen appliances look like they're from the 80's. A perk to this place is that water, cable, sewer, and trash are all included in the monthly rent payments.
Howell commons is a great apartment complex .Great area and very convient to get where u need to go .I have lived here going on 2 years .I love the amenities pools car wash tennis courts . haven't had a problem with staff nor neighbors. We have a lot of community activities as well as outingsThe one problems I do have is there isn't a gym .the there is only a one trash can which is at the exit to the complex. the trash tends to get full cause there is one for several hundred apartments.a gym would be nice since your already paying a lot for rent as it is.. I have recommended Howell commons to several friends..
Living here for 2 years and it gets worse every year, illegal activity that management does nothing about after numerous complaints and calls to courtesy patrol who may not be able to find someone in the area to assist, not enough parking because neighbors have a party every night, neighbors who don't clean up after animals, laundry facility needs maintenance daily, only one trash can which is at the entrance..not useful, the price is not worth the apartments, you could find a house for this price.
Beautiful landscaping, quite, safe environment. You can pay your bill online and they send you a statement each month. Cable include in the cost. Must of the leasing office reps are very friendly except one. That is why I gave it 4 stars.
