A vibrant gem in the heart of the prairie, Des Moines is named for the river that snakes through the city. This is Iowa's capital (and the county seat of Polk County), and it is filled with things to do. From concerts at the historic Salisbury House to the collections at Des Moines Art Center, and from the 81 miles of hiking and biking trails to the Greater Des Moines Botanical Gardens, Des Moines offers so much that it was named one of the top 10 cities in which to live by US News.
Home to such companies as Meredith Corporation, Wells Fargo, Voya Financial, and Principal Financial Group, Des Moines is considered one of the nation's wealthiest cities. But you'll also have fun after moving to your Des Moines apartment -- the city offers amazing shops and restaurants in East Village, the nearby Prairie Meadows Racetrack and Casino, the family-friendly Adventureland Park, and the fascinating Living History Farms.

Property Ratings at Madison Flats
This was a great apartment within walking distance to downtown! Pretty spacious inside with lots of windows for natural light. Pretty affordable too I would add considering the location. I also have never had a problem with my neighbors as the whole building seems pretty quiet. Tim, one of the maintenance guys for the building is super friendly and great about getting work orders done on time.
I moved here so I could be close to downtown and at the same time not throw all my money away in rent. It’s pretty affordable compared to other apartments downtown and still feels like a pretty nice place. Pet friendly and nice view of the capital. Lived here for over a year!
Nice(ish) apartments. Fairly affordable but they definitely cut corners and rushed to get the building up and units furnished. Moved in and the cupboards were falling apart, took about 2-3 weeks to get anything fixed. Paint is different colors in spots, terrible insulation and heat is absolutely atrocious. Can barely heat the entire apartment, and if you have the baseboards on make sure there’s nothing wooden by them or it will burn. The baseboards leave marks on the wall. Parking is okay aside from baseball season. When trying to get in contact to renew our lease it took weeks if not months to get any word back. If it wasn’t so affordable We would’ve definitely moved out by now.
Great spot and a large space, arranged pretty well. The sliding doors look very nice, as do the 4 windows and the large glass front door. The apartment is not insulated very well and noise from the street can be kind of annoying. The sliding doors slide shut on their own, and I find that I run into them a lot more often then I'd like because they move at unpredictable speeds. The kitchen sink only has one tub, as opposed to two, which is annoying if you like to cook at all or if you want to put a few dishes in the sink. The parking lot is too small as well. Otherwise, the space looks nice and there's plenty of room to hang paintings. High ceiling and lots of cupboard space. new appliances, including a washer and dryer.
Good Apartment for the location. Market rate and pet friendly which is hard to find in the Area. A little expensive for the quality of apartment. These were rushed to get finished in time and you can tell by the quality of work they cut corners. Worst thing about this place is the parking. It is a free for all and combined with living close to the ball park a lot of people park here who do not live here.
It's a great place, really quiet with great management and love how its pet friendly, however, it's a very small space with no real doors in the apartment which makes it hard for some privacy and hard for me to call it a one bedroom. The hallway outside our apartment isn't finished and makes the summer time brutal and the bugs that come in are gross and you have to rush to close your door before they get into your apartment. Being pregnant makes it really hard to go through the sauna we call a hallway but at least I have my own quiet place and it could be a heck of a lot worse. Other than the minor problems it's overall a good place to reside and nice being close to downtown plus on Fridays we get a great view of fireworks!
