East Lancaster represents one of the most settled communities in Salem, where a diverse community enjoys affordable homes away from the city center but close to major amenities. As the capital and third-largest city in Washington, Salem houses multiple universities and employers, making it a great place for renters of all types to settle.
Lying roughly four miles east of the city center, East Lancaster retains many rural characteristics due to its proximity to the Willamette River Valley. While the area offers fewer entertainment options than Portland, the outdoor recreation and cultural celebrations attract residents who enjoy the stunning natural landscape and a packed calendar of festival events.

Property Ratings at Mallard Landing
I lived here for 7 years when we first moved in every thing seemed ok but it didn't take long for me to see the truth the apartment is way out of date the first week there the bath tub faucet broke and we had water every where will she sent someone out 15 minutes after we called since then it's been one thing after a nether and every time we had to call them it took longer for them to respond and then recently they moved in someone upstairs I noticed that he was going through the dumpster and after that we started having the problem with the bugs (cockroaches)yes that's right cockroaches and all though we told her what I saw she didn't do anything about it in fact she acted as if we where the problem we are now homeless and she is ether refuses to give a reference or she is telling everyone that we are bad tenants.do not live here it may seem nice at first but it will go very bad very quickly and she will not help.it got one star because I had to this place isn't even worth one star
Management was nice and polite. Most of the neighbors were friendly older people or young families that kept to themselves. Maintenance was pretty quick to try and fix simple things. There was a lot of stealing that happened in this complex, neighbors had bicycles, car radios, and other belongings stolen, I had a car and on a different occasion a license plate that was stolen. Management would not allow me to review video surveillance and said that I was the only one having problems with thieves when I had talked to my neighbors and knew they had experienced it too. There was very little insulation in my apartment so it was cold and didn't hold the heat and there was a loose hand rail for the stairs. Rent kept increasing and there were not enough dumpsters for the amount of people who live there. Overall: This wasn't a bad place to live. It had some issues like any place but it was okay. There was a lot of parking, just make sure to use your parking pass or you will get towed. Management was nice and friendly. It's close to the freeway and several schools and an easy walk to stores.
The apartment was good when I moved in. Convenient location and friendly neighbors, the apartment seemed well cared for, then a few months passed and summer time came around. This is when the roaches came out. Please do not live here. It is affordable, but not worth dealing with roaches. If I kept the place immaculate, then I would see fewer roaches, but I still had them. The manager just bombed which as you know does not kill the roaches in the walls too. I was very happy when it came time to move.
Roaches from move in, 'no receipt' policy, and they stole my deposit claiming they never received it.
