Loosely defined by some as South Cleveland, this sprawling suburban area encompasses a number of communities in and around Medina and Brunswick, Ohio. This wide-reaching area lacks the sheer urban sprawl of Cleveland, instead offering a laid-back, affordable community for renters looking to be close to the city but want a bit more space or a touch of peace and quiet.
You’ll find affordable apartment communities with plenty of amenities, a wide variety of single-family homes, townhomes, condos, and more in South Cleveland. Its location outside of Downtown Cleveland means there’s a pastoral atmosphere and plenty of green spaces to appreciate as well. U.S. Highway 42 and Interstate 71 serve as the major thoroughfares and arteries into the city.

Property Ratings at Mallards Crossing
While our stay got cut short due to a job move (they do give a 60-day buyout option for 3mon rent), our 5 months at Mallards Crossing during "Covid" were a good experience. Beth and Amanda are good to work with and professional. The location is great! Many Medina friends commented that they never realized these apartments were tucked back there, convenient to highway and restaurants but private. Our building was near highway wall but traffic noise was subtle. In addition to garage with opener, parking was ample, and they proactively maintain blacktop. Love the full-size W/D in unit, garage, and pet option! Never had chance to use the gas fireplace. I didn't get to use gym or pool due to Covid (they gave a credit) I did use the dog park. This is a great dog friendly community, especially if live near the dog park like we did. They actually maintain doggy bag dispensers throughout complex. Grass & shrubs well maintained. Our unit had new floors and appliances as well as new water piping. The A/C blower noise is very loud in the unit near the TV hook up but got used to it. Buildings are getting older (28 yrs?) but they seem to be working to keep them updated now. Overall, the new management seems proactive in being willing to spend money to keep the place up. Maintenance was handled reasonably well if you work with them (they can be busy). Our unit had numerous issues when we first moved in (sink leak, cabinet issues, missing trim, A/C condensate leak into carpet) but Tom (Maint Manager) responded quick to emergencies and worked with me to self-repair items to reduce Covid exposure. Which I very much appreciated. Assistant Drew also very helpful and friendly. Unfortunately, Tom had to move on but I hear he is still available to them for HVAC work on weekends and they are working to find another Maintenance lead. In meantime, maintenance still responsive utilizing help from their other complexes. Will see if get back security deposit next month.
I have lived here 3 years and have never had an issue.the community is beautiful. The trees are beautiful and make each season here more enjoyable ( you should see the flowering trees in the spring here!) Maintanace has always been fast and the office is always responsive. The girls in the office have always been so pleasant, I see comments bashing the staff and I find it hard to believe! I bring my pup to the office they great us by name and Lola always get extra love and scratches from them. Keep up the good work mallards!
(This review has been amended after my situation was mostly rectified) Mallard originally attempted to charge us 100 dollars for what they considered to be stains on the carpet prior to even cleaning the carpet. My wife and I had never spilled anything and cleaned frequently…so we knew there were no actual stains. After pointing out how that didn’t make sense and posting negative reviews, they cleaned the carpet and gave us back the majority of our security deposit. We had two other issues while living here….When we renewed our lease, the automatic payment we had set up did not renew. As such, we missed a payment. Instead of notifying us, Mallard instead sent us a NOTICE OF EVICTION. It made my wife cry. We then had to pay 500 dollars for a late payment charge. All because an automatic payment didn't renew when we renewed our lease. Additionally, the "office hours" they claim to have are not legitimate. There were many occasions where I arrived and attempted to open the door during their stated office house to find that the door was locked. They refuse to staff two people at a time...meaning that every time the staff member leaves for lunch, gives a tour…etc the office is closed. I remember one time it took me 4 days to pick up a package of medication that I need to avoid migraines. Also, the sign they have up in front of the building stating their office hours has been wrong the entire 2 years I have lived here. I told them about it at the very beginning and it has not been fixed. That being said, Mallard also had many positives. The apartment itself was very spacious. The vaulted ceilings are very nice. The maintenance staff is top notch. Very timely and good at what they do. The office staff in general are very kind. As you can imagine from this review, I’m not always the nicest person to have to deal with when I have been wronged. They did a remarkable job of maintaining professionalism. By far, the best part about Mallard is its proximity to 71. My wife worked 30 miles away in Ashland and only had a 30 minute commute. Prior to choosing Mallard, my wife and I had read multiple reviews mentioning how noisy the apartments were especially due to dogs. There were dogs in our building, but we never had a problem with noise. Medina in a wonderful place to live. Rec center is great…two chipotle locations…access to any store or restaurant you could want.
I have lived here for 4 years and the staff has rotated. I am very pleased with the staff currently. I met Janet the other day and she is very friendly and knows a lot about the neighborhood. I'm glad to see Kate came back after a few months and I heard we have a new Propery Manager that is in the process of creating a fun and friendly environment that is very much needed! Looking forward to continuing my stay with Mallards!
I feel extremely welcomed here and had a phenomenal move in experience. There were bees on the balcony and a drip in the tub that were addressed immediately and I couldn't have been more impressed by all staff involved at Mallards Crossing. I had such a bad experience previously with a different management company that this positive time has really caught me off guard.
