Property Ratings at Marcella at Town Center
Nice from the outside but extremely thin walls and floors. Constant car break ins and package snatching. Pets deposits DO NOT cover potential damages, simply a charge to have them with you. Staff unable to pass correct information or contradict one another. Also you have to turn in keys the day of move out OR you are charged per diem until final inspection.
Poorly managed woke staff run complex. Trash compactor way to small for all residents and always over fills. Charged for valet trash monthly but they only show up twice per week. If issue arises with trash they wait until 10:00+ at night too state no trash service. Windows leak, stairs are always wet upon rain falling leading to access of apartment and if snow falls you may end up on your back side. Poorly maintained structures and it’s showing in a major way. Starting too feel like Motel 6!! Cars always speed around facility and have had near misses on numerous occasions. Doors always slam shut at all hours. Not luxury living for the excessive rent or lack of management!!!
I have been robbed twice while living here at Marcella. Despite the hundreds of car break ins, package theft, and criminal activity, the staff refuse to install cameras. I do not feel safe here at night. My package was ripped open on my doorstep and the reciept with all of my information on it was stolen. The response from the leasing office was to buy a PO box. They use COVID as an excuse to not open the leasing office to packages even through their tenants are being robbed. During Christmas, they offered package services for $25, and yet now they refuse even when told robbery is happening. There is constantly smells of marajuana, loud music, and drug paraphernalia laying around. Last week, I walked outside to a dirty bra on the ground outside the building. The staff do not care to fix these issues that result in the tenants being unsafe. I am so very disappointed, seeing as I have paid rent on time without fail, and am a member of the military choosing to stay here.
This place is definitely money hunger!!!!!! It does not matter how long you have lived here they will try and charge you an arm & leg once you move out. Even if the price they have do not justify the damages that were done.
Don't let the looks fool you. There is a money hungry monster (DAVID) running these apartments. I have lived here for two years and no problems until I made a mistake. Yes a small mistake has cost me almost 300.00 dollars. I was six dollars short of my rent and was charges three hundred dollars worth of fees and blocked from making payments online. I had the six dollars. I just miscounted my fluctuating bill incorrectly. I called the office to see if someone could help. FYI I informed them of this mistake before it had hit their systems. They had no idea. The manager was on vacation etc.. so I contacted the corporate office. I was transferred to the attorney/ president of the company. He informed me he would call back because he did not know how to operate the system??????Instead of them calling me a month later I was emailed a threatening letter with attorney fees, additional late fees, and even a judgement all because of six dollars.(that I had I mean you can borrow six dollars from a stranger) Now, Im going to be honest this apartment is already too small for the price. It is not worth what they charge you. For this company to be so by the book you would think that they would fix some of the things that are reported. One main issue is the fact that my apartment is very moist. Its so moist that I was given a humidifier (that I have had for at least 5 months or more and no one has credited me for that or even came back and checked on the apartment) that for the record I have to dump every so often to remove the moist from my apartment.( For the price that I pay I don't think that is my job. and that monster is not paying me to do so) There is also this rude girl that sit at the front. Long story short this company is all about your money. The president is a lawyer need I say more. All of this for 6.00 dollars. They should really consider how they treat their loyal tenants before everyone leaves. Don't move in here because you are just a number and I mean dollar sign number to them.. PS. I was threatened with court not because I didn't pay my rent, but because of the late fees I was disputing for a six dollar mistake. SHAME! SHAME! SHAME! There are so many other apartment complexes that will treat you like a human not a number because we all make MISTAKES. :)
Property Manager at Marcella at Town Center, Responded To This Review
Thank you for your review. I would like to take a moment to reply to your dissatisfaction. Our policy is that all late accounts are charged a 10% late fee based on the actual account balance at the time (example, a $6.00 account balance would have a $.60 late fee, a $1200 account balance would have a $120 late fee). This is our standard policy and is stated upfront at lease signing. If a check is returned, the Boyd policy is that checks and online payment(electronic check) priviliedges are discontinued for a period of 6 months. This information was relayed on 3 seperate calls by the Assistant Manager, Property Manager, and the President of Boyd. Non compliance letters go out to all residents with a balance, this is a policy for all management companies. We value all of our residents and want you to be happy at Marcella, while we also abide by our policies. I addressed the maintenance team concerning the dehumidifier. It was added to your apartment to combat the moisture due the fish tank that is creating moisture in your home. We are sorry if this has been an inconvenience to you.
We have been here for two years and it has been a terrible experience. In the two years we have had 8 leaks, and maintenance has been in and out. Tearing walls apart and fixing it, we have had to move our furniture around numerous of times so they can get to the leaks. It has been super frustrating and it has not felt like home. I cannot wait to get out of here!! Beyond that the walls are super thing and we have stopped sleeping in the master bedroom because we get woken up every morning at 4. Last year around the holidays, for about a month, the people below us played music all night till about two in the AM. Vibrating our floor and even after talking to management they did not stop. I wish I could give it zero stars! Paying too much for all these problems!
The buildings are new but the walls are so thin, that you pretty much can hear everything going on outside. The interior was dark, had to turn on the light in my living room even during the day. Also, despite being well-lit, the apartment complex does not feel safe at night. My door did not lock. Not all staff is friendly and at move out they are extra charges. Would not stay there again.
My apartment is huge and pretty even though it looks nothing like what I was shown. BUT from day one it had a horrible smell which I at first believed to be because it was new. Well it's been more than six months and no improvement. My apartment floors were scratched and peeling on move in day. The dishwasher leaked during its first use and it took months for them to get the new but less expensive replacement. My neighbor beside me bangs her cabinets for about 20 mins EVERY DAY. Management only muffled the noise with bumpers and that was months after I started complaining. I still hear her daily. She plays loud music and I can hear her on her phone quite often. I almost NEVER get to park in the reserved parking because there are not enough spaces for the crowded building. They didn't even make reserved spaces until months after I moved in and then they added a few extra spots around the backside of my building which are basically useless because there is not even a walkway to the back entrance!!! During warm weather there are beetles and spiders daily infestation. I sent my dog to live with my parents until my lease is up because this neighborhood is covered in dog feces and they had the nerve to blame me for it. EXCEPT I HAVE MY OWN BAGS BECAUSE THEIR PET STATIONS ARE IDIOTICALLY PLACED. I also don't feel safe walking her day or night. There is a ton of pedestrian/car through traffic and on several occasions at night I encountered guys hanging out in the parking lot smoking weed. There have been many parties, too, and the people coming and going are incredibly loud. The property manager wanted me to video tape and take pictures to try and figure out who the people were but that is not my job. The most unacceptable problem is the noise. IT IS CONSTANT... oh and the water here is really bad. Be sure to invest in Redken hair cleansing cream or something, filters, water softener, etc to combat the intensely bad water. I haven't had a good nights sleep since I moved here. My hair, skin, and clothes are wrecked. Oh and I forgot to mention the time they replaced the weather stripping on my door which was perfectly fine and didn't need to be replaced. Except the maintenance guy put it on backwards basically rendering my door useless then tried to tell me it was extra padded and fine. Seriously????? If I hadn't cut it out and turned it the correct way who knows what would have happened to my door. It still isn't right. I could go on forever.
The apartments community is great! The staff is friendly, the application process is simple, the location is ultra convenient to restaurants and shopping, and most importantly, the apartment features are great from top to bottom. Everything is updated, stainless steel, energy efficient, etc. The closet space is top notch. I have to say this is one of the best communities in the Hampton Roads area, and certainly the best in Hampton! I will definitely be here for awhile!
Home my haven and my dwelling place. Boyd builders done it right.why not build with Excellency for many apartment tenants will potential home owners. I was satisfied in my one bedroom and since I have upgraded I think I am in heaven. The Builders used top grade materials. Granite fixtures and the designs is very homey. To sum it all up this could be my home for life soooooo I need the money to sweeten The deal. I must mention the amendities resort pool with cabana gas grills. State of the art fitness center and a plethora of fun loving activities to do in our lounge. The location and last but not least the staff feel like family. The praises can continue for I was misplace after a terrible infestation at another property not worthy of mentioning. God sent me here in 20 minutes they had me done with a print out of all i needed to expedite my transition. I can finally exhale. I have lived in a lot of apartments but as i said before a I am home.
Don't be fooled by the new construction and beautiful facade. The walls are thinner than any other apartment I have ever lived in. The traffic outside sounds as if you have your windows open when they are closed. It is truly sad and a poor decision.
