An inner-ring suburb of Cleveland, Lakewood bears the nickname "City of Beautiful Homes." This city is home to historic apartments, homes, and a diverse community making it one of the more sought after locales in the area. Since the 1900s, Lakewood's focus has been on making a welcoming neighborhood for its residents.
Lakewood lies about six miles west of Cleveland. The natural beauty of Lake Erie contributes to the charm of this small city, as does the well-maintained downtown area and the diversity of neighborhoods. Urban amenities and a suburban atmosphere coexist in Lakewood, resulting in a comfortable, exciting place to live.

Property Ratings at Mark Twain Apartments
I’ve been in a lot of apartment complexes. This one is by far the worst I have ever been in. They charge you hidden fees, then they don’t tell you about these fees, so they can charge you late fees on top of that. They apartment manager is awful, mean, and if you’re on her bad side she goes after you. They hover around their cameras and watch every move you make, so don’t mess up or they’ll charge you a fee. This place may seem affordable, but trust me, it’s not worth the price.
Property Manager at Mark Twain Apartments, Responded To This Review
As it turns out, this former tenant is right...but only partly right. We do have security cameras at our buildings, just like your local bank, grocery store, and just about every doorbell now it seems. They are for our tenants' and employees' safety, and most residents have thanked us for providing them. We can't figure out why certain people don't like them...just kidding, we know. They usually smoke right next to the no smoking sign, let their pets leave smelly presents on the lawn, or attempt to throw their trash into the dumpster from 6 floors up! Yes, a professional management company will usually get upset if you do silly things or make a mess for someone else to clean...and yes, we will charge you for that. We try to offer a great rental value, and the residents who have been with us for many years tend to agree!
These people will charge you anyway they can. They are unprofessional about their leases, and raise rent every year even though the apartments are small. The laundry room is wreck and it cost an arm and a leg to dry clothes. Management is awful so if you’re up for that drama then it’s your rent money.
Their parking lot has almost no notification on parking restrictions, but they are extremely vindictive about promptly towing your car without notice out of an empty lot. In this way they're a detriment to the community and I would not trust them with a down payment on an apartment or any sort of honest service.
This place is a dump, don't bother wasting your time or money, find somewhere else. Management is terrible, they charge you outrageous fees for literally everything. Maintenance is a joke. The apartments are small and cramped and falling apart. Just terrible. There are ants everywhere and they do nothing about pest control. The property manager enters your apartment without permission all the time and is a complete nut job. Notices every time you come into the building for this or that. People throwing furniture off their balconies in the wee hours of the morning. It always smells like dirty dogs and weed in the hallways which never get cleaned. I would have given this no stars if I had the chance! Don't, I repeat don't rent here!!!
This apartment is full of roaches, hallways smell terrible & the only elevator breaks down at the worst times. If this is not enough to keep you away, I will mention how inept the management is- they will find a way to charge you additional fees any way they can. Forget your deposit. You will never get it back, after they ding you for each and every scratch, dent, stain that the apartment had when you moved in. Apparently, they go through some amnesia and forget how the apartment was before. Giving a move-out notice doesn't matter, they will still take your money & dare you to get a lawyer. They know, the legal fees alone will eat up your deposit, so they don't care. Please stay away!!
We are a couple that have been living here for a while now and things just keep getting worse everyday. It was bad in the beginning, but now with the new owners and new management it's even worse. The place is a mess, disgusting and has a horrible management. They never answer to the tenants request, phone calls or messages. The place never gets cleaned and it has a horrible smell every time we walk in. I can't wait for my lease to be over and to move out from this disgusting place. They do not even deserve 1 ??. I would not recommend this place to anyone!!!! Stay away!!!!!!!
Location is great. Walking distance to groceries, shops, restaurants, library and metroparks. The on site maintenance is a definite pro. Friendly neighbors. Spacious balconies.
never called after application submittion, leasing consultant was ok, but office mgr. was rude.
