Separated from Minneapolis by the Mississippi River, the eastern half of the Twin Cities is known for being a bit more laid back and subdued. The landscape is dominated by grand government buildings, stately Victorian homes, and tranquil green spaces.
Saint Paul residents love to spend time outdoors. The city has earned international acclaim as one of the most bicycle-friendly communities in America, and many choose to get around by bike on a day-to-day basis. The Mississippi River is bordered by massive parks as it snakes around the city, providing lush greenery and scenic views. Although the winter months in Minnesota are infamous, locals laugh in the face of sub-freezing temperatures with the Saint Paul Winter Carnival, an immensely popular celebration that draws thousands every year. There’s a plethora of shopping and dining options downtown, including a number of breweries.

Property Ratings at Marydale Lakeview Apartments
I lived there 5 years. I liked the park across the street, but that’s it. Front doors constantly broken, lacking security. People prop doors open all the time. Packages stolen both inside and outside the apartment. Laundry is constantly broken. There were neighbors down the hall that constantly had police coming for domestic reasons, and management hardly did anything about that. Common hallways people leave trash around. No A/C window unit in bedroom, the one in the living room does not reach the bedroom, so in order to survive the summer you must get your own portable one or bake. Roaches.. gross. Building needs some TLC. Most neighbors are quiet, which is nice. Lots of pot smoking.. which leaks from the vents in the bathrooms so it will smell up your own. Management slow to respond about safety concerns. I finally moved out and I realize now I paid way too much for what I got. I now am only paying a few hundred more a month and feel so much safer in my new place and getting so much more than I did there.
The windows are in extremely bad shape and suck in whenever you open your door. You have to seal them with plastic in the winter or you'll freeze to death. The heating can't keep up either. The residents in the 1164 building are relatively quiet, but there are so many heavy pot smokers it stinks up your bathroom, comes in under the door, etc etc. Loud bass music played by 1st floor at random hours and 24/7 in cars outside on the street waiting to pick people up. Loud freight train every 15 min across the lake. Increased crime in the area- we're talking kids on bikes with bats. The garages are mold ridden. The laundry facilities are extremely lacking and will rip up your clothes. They just added cameras at both entrances and in the parking lots, but otherwise no security. The locks get broken on the entryway door constantly. Mail gets stolen. And our location isn't even the one that gets vandalized all the time! Plus, major mouse problem. You'll notice a lot of cats in the windows. Dog owners leave poop on the steps. I liked having parking, living next to a park, got used to the train, and my neighbors were mostly quiet. But if you can afford to live elsewhere, do so.
Property Manager at Marydale Lakeview Apartments, Responded To This Review
Thank you for your review. We are sorry that you had less than ideal experience. Since the time of this review, we have upgraded our entrance security including cameras. We have also put in place the Poo Prints DNA program that allows us to identify the dog and fine the specific tenants that allow their dog to poop outside of the freshly updated fenced-in designated dog run. Our community is always being improved upon in efforts to make our tenants more secure and satisfied.
I have lived here almost 4 years. There is a lot of potential here but management does a poor job. There is trash everywhere outside all the time and often inside. The mailboxes have been broken into twice and the doors into the building have been tampered with and broken more times than that. The cameras do not work. There is a lot of crime in the area and the building has no security. Doors are frequently propped open or left broken. Rent went up twice but nothing has improved.
I'm renting an updated 2 bedroom for $889 a month which is a pretty good price for Saint Paul. The apartment has updated granite counters and laminate flooring. There are lots of closets and a nice big pantry. Overall I love the apartment, but the windows seem flimsy and the door has only remnants of weather stripping which I am hoping management will repair before winter arrives. The property is well taken care of outside and the location is wonderful. There are garages, off street and street parking. I have never had trouble finding a parking spot. Cats and dogs are allowed, which I think is great. I have never had a problem with animal noises or smells from my neighbors.
