Sitting directly across the I-80 from San Francisco, Oakland is a thriving city in its own right, and in recent years has become a popular home for folks seeking more affordable (and available) living arrangements than what is available across the bay without sacrificing the distinctive atmosphere.
While shipping is still a major part of the local economy, Oakland is home to the corporate headquarters for everything from established consumer brands to younger tech businesses. The cultural diversity of the city is vast, meaning that it’s easy to find art, food, and people from every corner of the world by just walking down the street.
California College of the Arts brings a creative streak to the community, which is reflected in the eclectic shops and cafes along College Avenue; In the Mosswood area, an eclectic mix of coffee houses, taverns, arts centers, and international restaurants line Telegraph Avenue, which runs all the way up to the UC Berkeley campus.

Property Ratings at Bell Uptown District
I lived at Bell Uptown last year. It's a great apartment building! I have a dog, and the dog restroom area on the second floor was a game changer. It's also the quietest apartment I've ever had. I never heard anyone next door or upstairs. The Property Manager Hannah was also fantastic and made moving in and out so easy. I would've stayed if my work hadn't brought me out of state. I highly recommend!

Bell Uptown District in Oakland was a beautiful, safe and conveniently located apartment complex downtown Oakland. Our daughter lived there for 5 months while externing. The apartment is across the street from 3 fabulous restaurants. And the Building Manager Hannah and maintenance Manager Arturo were always so helpful, friendly and accommodating moving in and out and while our daughter lived there. I would highly recommend this Apartment!!

I sincerely enjoyed my 2.5 years living at Bell Uptown District (formerly The Maxwell). If I hadn't had to move out of state for work, I would absolutely still be living there. The building is new (or at least on the new side), comparatively small (a plus if you don't like crowds and hubbub), and well maintained. The apartment layouts are fantastic and, at least in my unit, I couldn't hear my neighbors next door or upstairs at all. Love having the convenience of the upstairs dog restroom area and Hannah and Arturo provide great service keeping things running. I have to say I took it all completely fore-granted until I moved and wasn't able to find anywhere comparable in my new location.

I love living at Bell Uptown District! Ive lived here since April and feel very at home. My favorite amenity is the Gameroom and my favorite part of the apartment is the windows (and the walk in closet!)

Pros: spacious floor plan with huge windows. Modern blinds. Rodents/insects not a problem we dealt with. Super convenient location. Clean usually. Cons: Not cheap! Property management is inconsistent with rules/fees/procedures - it's like every resident is her first from beginning to end. There are move-out fees, expect to pay about $500 for paint and cleaning to move out (even if it's not listed on your lease or move-out inspection). Super noisy since it's so close to main artery to access freeway, especially during nightlife hours (Th-Su). Walls are thin - expect to hear your neighbor's extracurricular activities - quite possibly rap music at 8am on Saturday morning. Amenities are non-existent: creepy game-room, dirty dog dropping area that doesn't get cleaned, & the solitary gym room... Oh! The management company changed every 4 months we were there - unsure what that means, but doesn't seem good. Good luck & happy apartment hunting.

Hi Victoria, thank you so much for your feedback! We are disappointed to learn you feel this way about the Bell Uptown District community. After speaking with the team, they informed us that a comprehensive breakdown of your move out charges was completed during your pre-move out appointment, and that potential move out charges are all discussed in your lease. We are sorry to hear you did not enjoy the amenities, including the newly renovated game room. If you have any further questions about your move out charges, please don’t hesitate to contact the office! - Sarah, Bell Customer Service
