Virginia Beach is a large city of nearly half a million people, perched on the Atlantic coast between Chesapeake Bay and the North Carolina state line. Supporting a thriving local economy of its own, Virginia Beach is also a popular home base for folks who work in neighboring Norfolk and beyond, largely thanks to the incredible array of things to do in your down time.
The Sandler Center for the Performing Arts attracts major national performers and Broadway musicals, as well as popular local and regional acts. Throughout the year, you can always catch live shows at Farm Bureau Live, the city's 20,000-seat outdoor concert amphitheater. During the summer, Atlantic Boulevard comes alive at night; family-friendly street performers line the street, and bands play at a number of stages set up on the beach, in parks, and on the boardwalk.

We are thrilled to see your support! Our dedicated team works hard to maintain a 5-star environment for our residents, so we appreciate your recognition of their efforts. We understand that perfection is difficult to achieve, but we are always striving to improve. Thank you again for your kind words!
Beautiful community! I loved the customer service that I experienced with Nicole. She is incredibly professional and goes out of her way to make me feel at home. Mayflower may be an older building, however it's cozy and a landmark here on the East Coast. The community really makes me feel at home and it's always nice to be able to see the ocean on a daily basis. The staff here at Mayflower Apartments is completely professional and their hard work does not get unnoticed. They all deserve the best and a kind community helps with that. Within the last year the upgrades have improved tremendously and I appreciate the blood, sweat, and tears that maintenance puts up with. I as well as my friends visiting from out of town enjoyed the amenities here at Mayflower. The indoor and outdoor pools are always relaxing and crystal clean. The fitness center helps me stay in shape, and the large clubhouse is fun to gather with friends and the community. There are resident events where I enjoy meeting new like minded individuals. Mayflower has been an enjoyable place for me to reside at. I love my cute apartment and the view can't be beat. Mayflower staff you all are truly amazing, thank you all for your hard work!!!

Everything is broken even the "amenities" they offer. Elevators never work. Laundry rooms are sometimes broken and leak water. There have been many occasions where the heater does not work during the winter. I recently began renting here and I am already regretting it and finding a new place because it is just is not worth it for the amount they charge for an apartment. Outside of the complex always has trash around and their dog stations are always with pet waste with their trash area overfilling and never cleaned.

Due to the nature of your concerns, we think it would be best if we spoke with you directly. Please stop by our office at your earliest convenience so we can discuss these claims. We look forward to speaking with you soon.
The staff does their best, but they are fighting a losing battle with a very old building and an understaffed maintenance crew. In my four years the building, my apartment flooded from above to varying degrees ~4/5 times. Often maintenance wouldn't respond for days/weeks, and a few times not at all. The water would also be turned off for long stretches every few weeks or so because of some critical plumbing issue they had to fix. Lots of roaches because so many residents refuse to follow the trash rules. Generally, had a lot of quite disrespectful neighbors. If signs have to be put up to not let your pet go to the bathroom in the elevator or hallway - there is clearly an issue. Hard to really blame the Mayflower staff for so many of the issues the residents caused. Moving out - lots of confusing math and charges on the final bill, to hilariously include a $100 cleaning fee when the carpet was completely soaked due to yet another flood from the apartment above. Try to get a unit facing away from 34th street - the pool and parking garage across the street are both extremely loud, especially on busy summer weekends. Lots of loud music and revving engines on both Atlantic and Pacific, generally, to include cop cars, fire trucks, and ambulances screaming by at all hours. The 'upgraded' apartments certainly look better, but they are a facelift on a building with a lot of problems. Also - good luck if you live underneath someone with kids and/or dogs in an upgraded apartment - those new hardwood floors are insanely loud from below. But all in all - solid location, couldn't be closer to the beach or boardwalk - I really enjoyed that aspect of the place. Get yourself a nice bicycle and you can cruise right to all the bars, restaurants, and concerts, that part was really awesome. I'd say the Mayflower is okay for a year or two if you want to be right in the thick of the excitement at the oceanfront, but after that the various problems with the building and general craziness of the tourist-y area start to get real old, real quick.

I've been living at the Mayflower for 7 years now and have seen ups and downs. I love the changes and upgrades we are seeing now! Things are being repaired, upgraded and lots of other positive things are happening! You just cant beat the location, being right across the street from the beach and having so many restaurants, concerts and other activities within walking distance. -Christina

The first week I moved in I submitted three maintenance requests because so much stuff broke, the apartment they put me in has a dirty, spotty carpet, and if the other reviews didn't emphasize it enough, ROACHES. If something breaks, give it at least a month before it gets fixed.

Newly renovated, great management, they have resident parties almost every month your utilities are included in your monthly rent so it’s one less thing to deal with. You are half a block from the beach, highly recommend. If I were moving all over again I would still choose to live here
Old building in need of too many repairs that can not be bandaged up. Roaches, sewage and gas smells, lots of recreational drugs, trash and debris throughout the halls and elevators, elevators malfunctions, water consistently shutoff through the day for hours and sometimes days
So I have been living here for 2 years. I have a thousand friends if you have seen joes apartment the movie you would understand. Roaches. Infestation. The management has not fixed my apartment since October when I had a leak in my bathroom it is now february. Stay away. Roaches are living rent free. Oh and if management reviews this and respond I still haven't had hot water in three months and my still hasn't been fixed.
I am currently living in this place and I have no idea what I am paying for. It initially seemed like the high rent was worth paying especially for all the amenities. But there are ZERO amenities. I was told the outdoor pool was open year round before I signed my lease and it is not. You can’t even go outside to use the fire pits and apparently they have been broken for years. The indoor pool is closed. The business center has no furniture in it. They got rid of all the old furniture and said there won’t be new furniture for 3 more months?!? Why wouldn’t you just leave the old in until the new comes?? I have never been more displeased with a living situation. Completely unprofessional. These pictures are an absolute lie. None of this stuff is even in the building! It’s complete false advertisement. So many things in my apartment were broken the day I moved in. It seems they will tell you whatever they need to to get you to sign a lease. It’s extremely disappointing and I so wish I had gotten a place at the summer house next door. I just have no idea what I am paying for here at this point.
Beware this building has a huge roach infestation. I lived in this building for 2 years. Air conditioning system was broken all summer. Staff is extremely unprofessional and this building is infested with roaches
Visited a friend for 2weeks and all I can say is WOW , GERMAN COCKROACHES, awful smells of maybe a detoriating old building with a nest of not willing to help out on the rent/utilities (ROACHES) stuff from the ceilings fell in 2× while I was there visiting, was thinking of moving there to be closer to my friend but unfortunately that will not happen! Not a thing is included in the rent, as they bill you for using the vending machine the washer, drye,r ATM, even the amneties that you may think your not paying for, YOU are! You pay for pest control every month, you pay for trash removal $20.00 a month inwhich is added to your rent then $5.50 a month that's included with your utility bill? $3.00 a month for there (MAYFLOWER) unwelcomed pests, no individual meters to effectively determine 1 apartments usage of electricity and the same goes for the water usage, not to mention there's 2 restaurants within the apartment building functioning and operating off of who I really wonder? Parking is $40.00 a month, the washer and dryers takes a prepaid card you have to load in order to wash, and again there's no individual meters to determine how much electricity you use since everything is read monthly by the (MAYFLOWER) staff then reported to a 3rd party based business out of state? My friend bills were quite high as she lives alone! No thanks to the (MAYFLOWER)! nice place to visit being that it's close to the Ocean, but all that indoor pool jacuzzi outdoor pool exercise room, day area with refrigerator and microwave big screen TV, YOUR PAYING FOR IT! Returning home and inside the car was a tenant of the (MAYFLOWER) that I did not desire to bring back with me (ROACH) unacceptable! Mayflower making to much money to have such people living in such hazardous conditions along with pest, at one point I saw the leasing office scented plugins plugged in on floors hallways, that's how bad the stinch is on different floors and there's #15 or #16 of them. Since there's (ROACHES) present in that whole building be careful where you eat, as I did not eat at my friends nor the restaurants that are attached to it! #Promise. Didn't get to meet the staff but I could just imagine. One more thing this building should be shut down until it's properly fit and functional to inhabit people not pest while giving people a clean safe environment.
The leasing process was great. I didn't feel pressured to rent and all the staff I have interacted both the day I sign my lease all the way through the present have been great to talk to and work with if I need anything done in my apartment. The apartment had some messes on the carpet when I toured it which I pointed out and all of that was cleaned before I moved in the next day. Great view. Excellent neighbors and I am glad I chose to live here for my time at Virginia Beach!

Hi, thank you for your honest review. We will take this in consideration in order so we may be able to improve. Thank you and have a good day.
This apartment building is old, so do not expect pretty/fancy. Do not expect a garbage disposal or an in-unit washer & dryer. You should read and understand the lease to eliminate any future misunderstandings. Yes, the apartments have granite counter tops, but the money should have been applied to installing decent quality appliances/cabinets/fixtures. Because there is a garbage chute, and some residents do not properly bag their garbage, among other reasons, there are roaches. Initially I saw at least one roach a day in my apartment, and recently none. They constantly spray to keep the roach population in check. The property management and maintenance staff are friendly. Minor/simple repairs are addressed quickly. Major repairs take longer. The repair staff is not well trained in my opinion (I’m a mechanical engineer). There were two situations where I had to educate the person diagnosing and/ or fixing the problem. I’m new to the area and only checked out three apartment buildings before selecting this building based on location. Location was my top priority. I’m satisfied with my 14TH story apartment but will look around more carefully when my lease nears expiration and will only move if I have a compelling reason.
I had previously posted a very strong, language appropriate, lengthy review about the horrors of this place. But it was promptly removed. Just know the outside is nice and the moment you move in, everything goes to poop. Bugs, poor maintenance, poor management....etc. Please save your money and go somewhere else. I know I'll be.

Thanks! We love to create a great experience for our residents. There were a lot of features on your wish list, so I’m particularly glad we were able to find that unit with the laid back and downtown views you wanted! Enjoy your new home! Kindly, Mayflower Customer Service Team
I'm currently living by the ocean, but my daughter and I need more room. We currently have 2 bedrooms and 1 bath. She's 20 and a full time student.......1 bathroom with 2 women is challenging needless to say, so soon we will move to a larger place. 2 bathrooms. She needs a place for all her girly stuff. I'm a single mom, a nurse and I have the pleasure of sharing an apartment with my wonderful and smart daughter. She's an honor student so she deserves a nicer place.
