Home of Northwestern State University, Natchitoches is what you’d call a classic college town both progressive and modern, while harvesting quaint southern traditions within its heart. There’s quite a lot to look forward to in this city – especially apartments!
As a college town with a long history of serving students, you’ll find that school spirit is alive and well throughout the community. The city houses many estates from the Antebellum era, with many of them having been converted into historic museums and event spaces. University-sponsored activities are open to the public year-round – but the biggest event is the Christmas Festival with its festive light displays.
When someone describes Natchitoches as picture-perfect, you take that literally. The city has seen numerous celebrities like John Wayne and Julia Roberts during the filming of major movies.

Property Ratings at Melrose Apartments
MY FAMILY AND ME LIVED IN APARTMENTS HERE OVER 14 YEARS AND WE HAVE NOT SEEN BETTER TIMES AND MANAGEMENT.
The management at this apartment complex was amazing when I moved in 2 years ago (they seemed to care more about their tenants and were very friendly) but since then they have had several different managers that have been very rude and inconsistent with their information and policies. It will cost you an arm and a leg in fees if you ever try to move out.

Thank you for your review. We are sorry to hear that you have had a bad experience. We strive to provide the best living environment possible and understand how staffing changes can affect this experience. Our current staff has been working diligently for the past year to remedy inconsistencies relating to policies, as well as strengthening resident relations. We promote an ‘Open Door’ atmosphere and encourage resident feedback.
I moved for school. I really like it here. The office people are super nice and helpful. Their new office and computer center is really nice. It's close to NSU and Walmart. The maintenance guys are pretty chill and get the work done. I referred someone and got $300 off!!
We lived in this place for over two years, we moved out at the end of the lease, they knew that because we did not renew the lease. 6 months after moving out, they send a letter informing us of forfeiting our security deposit and ask for extra money on top of the security deposit, furthermore they immediately send the file to a collection agency, who are malevolent and has nothing to do with justice, in order to harm my credit. in terms of the place it is old, windows are broken, bees where living in top of the windows, who stings my children many times, kitchen and bathrooms clogged in a weekly bases, the worst when it happened on Friday evening, where no one will help you. one day in the evening some one knocked in my door, a guy was on the door, the guy was asking for a ride, he attempt to steal my car keys, moments during the discussions the police showed up, it appears they where chasing him, because he steal some thing from Wal-Mart, you will see lots of these type of people. in another incident, for more than a month the sewage where out on the street, because they have a problem with the sewer system. They treat every one as a suspect or as a student. washing machines always have problems.

We apologize for these problems. In our lease, it states that you must submit a 60 day written notice of termination. We even send letters to remind the residents that their lease is ending and they either need to renew or give notice. When someone does not give a notice and just leaves, that is considered a skip. Especially if they do not turn in keys. We never want to harm anyone's credit but when someone skips and doesn't turn in keys, that person unfortunately owes the money for the 60 days and the keys. The windows here are definitely not broken. We also have 24 hour emergency maintenance. If something happens at 2am, we have an answering service that will respond. Most of us live here, so someone is always here to help. We try to treat everyone here as family, not "suspects."
I lived on-campus for a while and I hated it. Here I don't hear anyone and I can actually sleep at night. I did have noisy neighbors across from me at first but I asked the manager if there was anything they could do. They sent the officer that lives on the property there to speak with them. The noise stopped for a while but when it started back up, I called the officer (they were nice enough to give me his personal number) and he wrote them a ticket. By the third time, the management asked them to leave, so they moved out. I was pleasantly surprised that management actually did that! I was used to dealing with the people on campus who say they will do something and then don't. I enjoy going to the pool and sometimes the management is out there, too. They all live here and are friendly people. Maintenance has always been good when I needed something fixed. My A/C went out once and I think they had to order a part but it only took a day and they fixed it really quickly. They are building the new office and there is going to be like a little gym in it. And wifi! I'm pretty excited about that. Hopefully it will be good wifi, unlike the dorms. I really enjoy living here. I'd recommend to my friends. I'm trying to convince my old dorm roommate to move here because I think she'd really like it.
When I applied for an apartment here it was the better of some ok choices that I had. Within the first week I had a few minor problems that still haven't been fixed, and some I've had to fix on my own. First my carpet was filthy. I was told that it would be replaced the week before I moved in. It was never replaced. I bought a vacuum to clean it because they wouldn't and the catcher on the vacuum was filled with dirt and allergens. This was a major problem for me because there was dog hair and I'm allergic to dogs. The carpet is still a little dirty. It feels like someone tried to shampoo it but left the shampoo on it and now there is this sticky film on the carpet. I'll have to get that fixed on my own. Another problem I had was the bathroom sink. It was clogged and the hot water handle got stuck when I turned it own. So I had water over flowing because I couldn't turn the water off. I reported this and they told me it would be fixed. A week later it still wasn't fixed. So I unclogged the drain and greased the knob myself. Other than the problems I haven't have anything major (aside from the dog hair I'm still trying to get rid of). It's quiet most days. There are days where my neighbors have company and they talk loud enough to be heard from across the hall. I remember one night I was waken up at 2am to a tenant yelling for his dog to come in the house. That upset me. Oh! I haven't received my mailbox key and I have mail that I need to get. But thankfully they are changing the locks and getting new keys because they keys to my apartment and mailbox weren't returned by the previous tenants (they changed my door locks as well) All in all, it's a nice apartment to say that it's non-renovated, management is a little below average, the community is like family, can't live with them but you can't live without them. There is a clean pool. They are doing some renovations to the property as well. They are adding some more amenities so hopefully things will start looking better and management will get it together.
