Property Ratings at Melrose Gates
The apartments are nice... however. Management is uncaring, and difficult to work with. They refuse to give my 12 year old a key (they just installed FOB key access). He and I have different schedules so I'm stuck to choose between leaving my apartment unlocked everyday or being locked out for 3 hours everyday. If you think you'll be having guests over think again. If I have more than 2 people over I get a noise "letter". My guests have been chased down outside for smoking a cigarette going to their car. My niece (12 years old) was threatened to have the cops called on her because she let a door slam behind her. Just s HORRIBLE experience can't wait until my lease is up!
Apartment is decent for the price. I did encounter random heater shutdowns during winter (temperature can not be controlled using thermostat). My bedroom had a leak which made it cold during high winds. Problem was partially solved. Biggest letdowns: 1. Strong smell of weed in the hallways even though the property is "smoke-free". Stay away if you have children. They don't deserve this. 2. $70/month for non-heated garage is absurd. 3. Rodent problem. Apartments have holes. 4 . $505 damage fees charged even though we returned the apartment as we found it. Breakdown of these absurd charges: Living room dirty: $25 Dining room blinds dirty: $10 Kitchen countertop dirty: $30 Oven dirty (never ever used oven): $75 Dishwasher dirty: $35 (never ever used it) Cabinets dirty: $125 (we cleaned them pretty well) microwave dirty: $50 (not a single stain) Bedroom carpets dirty: $50 sink DIRTY: $30 Shower dirty: $40 Heating dirty: $20 (it was rusting when i got the apartment, i was so disgusted) Pan left in oven: $15 Look at these charges and decide for yourself if you should rent here. I spent my entire weekend cleaning the apartment and still I got this. Don’t be fooled by the stars. Find someplace else.
I have lived here for over two years now and for the most part, I have had a good experience. My move in was terrible - the apartment was not clean: garbage in the kitchen, dead bugs in the light cover above the stove, cockroaches - yes this is for real - living in the kitchen cupboards, and the floor was so dirty the bottoms of my feet turned black. I was ready to move out before I had even unpacked. Fortunately, the manager at the time (Nate), was very responsive and they took care of the pest issue immediately and I have not had an issue since. They have been busy renovating - they installed new front and patio doors, bathroom cupboards, railings for the balconies, and a microwave over the stove since I have moved in. Management is good with communication - they provide notices before undergoing projects. Staff is friendly. Maintenance has a reasonable response time - usually within 2-3 days. You only pay for electricity ($30-40 per month for 1 BR) and wifi. Laundry on every floor, you can usually use it without having to wait - or you can go to another floor if necessary. You can hear neighbors through the walls, but it's not obnoxious. Aside from my move in debacle, my experience has been relatively positive.
Calling the property is no help. They tell you to pay for things like having your door knob stuck? How can a resident be responsible for that? They close the office half days without any notice. They will say they will open the next day and decides again to not open without any type of notice.
Nate rocked. They are caring and understanding. They were there for me when no one else was. They showed me ny family and I deserved and could live beautifully. Following a tragedy they treated me like I was normal.
Although it's located in Brooklyn Center (looks both ways) the complex is very well kept. Management is awesome, and the residents are very friendly! Definitely feel safe at the complex, although I can't say the same for the surrounding area. Huge golf center currently being built across the street!
I've been living here for a year and a half, and I've been very happy. The staff are always quick to respond, and maintenance is efficient at taking care of any issues or questions I have. Communication from the office is great - any time something is going to happen (such as a lot clear-out or a door key change) they make sure there's plenty of notification in advance, including a note delivered to every unit and often a text or e-mail. They also accept packages - you don't have to be home to get them, or worry that if they're outside your door someone else might grab them. One thing I've really liked is that two keys are necessary for access, so I feel a little more comfortable as a woman living alone. I've never had any issues with other residents (everyone has been friendly), but it's still nice to feel like there's that extra bit there in case I ever forget to lock my door. It's really convenient having laundry on every floor. You sometimes have to wait if the machines are taken, but that's pretty rare. I'd rather wait half an hour down the hall than have to walk to another building. The hallways of the building do feel a bit dated, but the units themselves are well-kept and updated. I particularly like that in my unit, the only carpet is in the bedroom. You can definitely tell that things have been replaced recently and regularly. Slight downsides - this is an older complex, so the heating is baseboard. At least in my unit, that ends up meaning that heat isn't usually completely evenly distributed. Air is central, not window-units, which is a big plus. Also, depending on where your unit is located, you can sometimes find that it's a bit difficult to get the best parking spots. One thing I'd been concerned about when I moved in was being next to 694. Other than when I have the windows wide open, though, I haven't heard anything. The lack of noise is particularly nice because it means during the warmer months I can open up the sliding glass door to the porch and let my cats get some fresh air. In the meantime, being so accessible to so many common roadways has been really nice. Even with road construction this summer, my commute to downtown Minneapolis rarely felt too aggravating. I've never had any problems with any pests - bugs or mice - or hearing too much noise from my neighbors. If you're in the hallway you can often hear if someone's got some music going or a TV on, but the moment I'm in my apartment it disappears.
The maintenance staff and management are incredible! They are super responsive and trustworthy and right on site. If you are a good tenant you should have no complaints and have everything taken care of for you. The best management staff and apartment complex I have lived ever - and I have lives at 5 other properties with 5 different companies.
REAL granite counter-tops, stainless steal appliance options, patios/balconies, 5-star fitness center, kind/attentive management, etc etc etc.
The apartments are nice. I like the indoor pool and fitness center.
This place is great. Love the location. Over the past year it has been very well maintained and I have been listened to about any questions or concerns. I will definitely be extending my lease next month.
Management is so much better than my old place. They keep the grounds cleaned up and they are quick to respond to any calls or emails.
Everyone in the office is motivated and happy to help! We did our showing with Nate, lease with Casey and online payments with Missy. We looked at several other apartments and always came back to Melrose, they're super nice.
I have lived here for a year and really like it. Everyone is very friendly and the property is located very near the highways.
I really like the apartment for my family. The office people are very nice.
I recently moved to Melrose Gates, and so far everything has been great. The office staff is very helpful, and my maintenance issues were dealt with pretty timely. Overall I have had a great experience so far, and would recommend this property to anyone.
I have loved living here, the pool and fitness center are my favorite. Casey and Nate are very professional and always in a good mood. I enjoy paying my rent automatically online each month and they allow packages to be dropped off in the office. So convenient!
The staff at Melrose Gates is great, KC and Missy are so nice! I would highly recommend living here, the apartments are beautiful and the work out area is the best in town!
We have had such a great experience living here. The management is so wonderful they take care of any concerns right away and even get to know you personally. When I had my newborn baby they delivered my packages right to my door! Very close and easy access to get where ever you need to go. We have nice new appliances and wood floor and new cabinets. There is open grassy areas to play or bbq and a library within walking distance. The workout room is awesome and the indoor pool is so well taken care of. We are so happy we chose to live here its been great!
I love living at Melrose Gates! The property management is amazing! Very prompt and thorough. The apartments are incredible! Granite counters. Cherry cabinets. Faux wood floors! The workout room is top notch. Interactive tv to do workouts. Great equipment! Love it!
My apartment are very nice and clean there is minor problems like any place you rent from but overall the management are wonderful and addressed concerns very quickly and make sure your stay is as wonderful as they say it will .I like where I live very spacious and great for my family .
Melrose Apartments are right what you need if you looking for easy freeway access, service responds in no more then a day. A big yard for kids to run, swimming, work outs, you name it Melrose has it, including beautiful hard wood floor apartments. Thank you Shannon
If you are looking for residential living only minutes from city life then this is the place for you. Minutes away from any shopping you need and only about a 10 minute drive to get into Downtown Minneapolis. It is located right behind the Regal 20 theater and the I-694/94 and HWY 252, but it is surprisingly pretty quiet. Due to the proximity to the roads, those sensitive to background noise might not be suited for some of the buildings on this property, but it is easily blocked out with something as simple as a fan. Speaking of noises, the A/C in the apartments are VERY loud and easily over power your TV. The apartment itself is modern and has a newly renovated kitchen. The bathrooms are still a little dated, but nothing too bad. The staff are great, especially the manager. Maintenance does a pretty good job at prioritizing requests and getting most things done in a timely manner. I haven't had to really notify them of many issues, so I can't give much more of a review on them. The layout is not that bad, however, I think that putting an OK sized dining area in a one bedroom is a waste of space, I don't think it is really a negative and I just utilize the space with my computer. I was worried moving in that it would be more cramped moving from a duplex, but it is actually pretty open looking. However, one of my biggest complaints has to be that if you are around 6ft then you will probably knock your head into the light hanging above the dining area. The kitchen is gorgeous and has a lot of cabinet space, double sink, and dishwasher. Another thing I really like is all the closet space available--2 in the bedroom, 1 in the entrance, and another in the hall. Each apartment also has a balcony or patio that is screened in which is very nice, but you cannot leave from them. They also are pretty relaxed with pets which can be hard to find. The common areas, such as the gym and pool are also newly renovated and kept very clean. They don't seem to be heavily used, so it stays pretty quiet. They have a dance type room with a very large TV with a huge selection of workout videos to choose from. The gym is very basic though, so if you're a gym rat who loves lifting weights then you will be better off getting a membership at one of the many gyms in the area. As far as the tanning bed goes, I couldn't tell ya, I have never used it. The pool is a decent size but more suited for lounging and kids, it is not the best for lap swimming as it only about 5 ft deep at most.
We moved into our 1 bed 1 bath apartment a couple of weeks ago. So far we have been loving it! This area is perfect if you want to be in a residential area that is close to shopping (Tj Maxx, Target, Walmart, Cub Foods, etc) but far enough away from the action of the city to not feel overwhelmed. Plus, there is a cinema directly across the street! The grounds are very well kept and very clean. There are people outside doing lawn care throughout each week and the grass is always groomed. Garbage gets taken out at least twice a week so there's never an eye sore of overcrowded dumpsters. The staff who work in the main office are incredibly nice and very attentive. When we moved in our patio screen and boards were destroyed by the previous tenant, and Nate (the 'office guy' around here) told us to just go ahead and cut a hole in the screen to make unloading our move easier. He sent someone to fix it and put in new screen within the next few days. Problem solved. Something worth noting is how quiet it is around here. We came from a tiny town and expected noise and traffic to be an issue. To the contrary, it almost seems like no one else is ever home around here. Neighbors are very quiet and polite. Something I wish this place had is a better fitness room with more equipment. It's essentially 2 treadmills, 2 ellipticals, a stack of free weights, and a multi-workout machine (and a dance floor with fitness TV that is nice but doesn't seem to appeal to too many around here). I wish there were more things in the gym but it's not a big deal. There's an indoor heated pool and nice restrooms by the gym area. As for the apartment itself; it was cleaned and ready to go upon move-in. It has "hard wood" laminate flooring that looks brand new. Remodeled wood cabinets in a cherry finish. HOT HOT water here that never runs out! All windows are functional and brand new in appearance. Our interior doors in our apartment are kind of hard to shut and they don't have locks but it was easy to get used to. We are on the maintenance list to get those looked at. If you are expecting fast maintenance I would say you need to lower your expectations - there is a laundry list of things to do for the maintenance guys around here and we spot them doing things frequently. We are perfectly content waiting our turn just like everyone else. Overall I am giving this apartment 4 stars. We love it here!
Its a great place very quite, and clean.... management works very quickly to handle problems.
