Newark’s dominant landmark and cultural hub is undeniably the University of Delaware campus, where the student body nearly matches the city’s population of permanent residents. Accordingly, many of the community’s resources are tailor-made for the collegiate crowd: an eclectic mix of restaurants and nightlife venues lines Main Street on the north side of campus, and affordable apartments are easy to find anywhere in town.
Despite the fact that it is primarily a college town, Newark maintains a diverse population with rental options available to suit any lifestyle. The sprawling nature preserves that border the northern end of the city provide gorgeous settings for hiking, camping, canoeing, and simply enjoying the great outdoors. Just thirty minutes from Wilmington, Newark also makes an excellent home base for commuters.

Thanks so much for taking the time to share this short but sweet feedback! We're happy to hear that you had a great experience with us at Melrose Place and hope to see you again; take care!
Worst apartment ever, the buildings are dirty and there’s a bug problem. Be prepared for noise complaints at 3pm for listening to music that’s not even loud while taking a shower even though the lease you sign says it’s not enforced until 10pm. Maintenance guys don’t want to work, whole building was told they were getting an air conditioner filter and never received one. Speaking on air conditioners and heating they never work and always break. Electric is terrible and lightbulbs have to constantly be replaced and overall there’s a negative attitude with the front office. I hope to god they lose all money on this property and sell because they clearly don’t invest the rent money back into the property. Wouldn’t recommend to my worst enemy.

i stayed at melrose from 2017 to 2019. i consider it to be one of the reasonable apts in the area. the staff seemed pretty nice imo. i had 2 issues while living there: 1 mold, which i think can be attributed to my apartment being sublevel. 2 the property manager told me i had to move out in aug 2019 even though my lease was up in aug 2020. i obliged here instruction which i thought was related to the mold but was billed for terminating my lease early. other than that i do think melrose is a good place to live, and if not for my personal experience would give it a higher rating.

The property is good for UD students who have a car to commute to campus; it is a short drive (~5mins). It has a washer/dryer in the unit, which is a plus compared to the rent! They also have a one-year discount for UD grad students/staff. The maintenance crews are great and on-call.

Moved in almost 2 years ago. Had minor issues in the kitchen but the maintenance team always arrives quickly and repairs in a timely manner.

I lived at Melrose for 3 years, and would have stayed longer but my job relocated me out of state. I found the apartments to be clean, and maintenance was always prompt to fix any issues. The 1 Bedroom apartments are spacious and heat is included in the price. My only complaint was that my apartment faced the shopping center, and I could hear the drive-thru.
This place has very bad management. I’ve been waiting to move in here for two months and I was told an apartment would be available the second week of July so I put in my 30 notice for my current apartment. Now on June 22nd they tell me they now won’t have anything available until late August. No one knows who I spoke with our who gave me this information. I even have screenshots of the website saying they will be available July 5th. Just very bad management.

There's no pool or balcony if you're looking for extra those extra perks. Maintenance, as well as the leasing office staff, are nice people. Neighbors aren't the friendliest but they aren't rude. You unfortunately run across the inconsiderate neighbors who will purposely take up 2 parking spots, leave a mess in the hallway, as well as do laundry and have incredibly loud conversations well after midnight. We have community days hosted by a local church. They have events for kids, BBQ for everyone over the summer and they did provide a bag of Thanksgiving goods which was very nice. I haven't really had many issues but the one time I did, maintenance came right away on a Friday night. My biggest issue here is noise! Not only are the walls thin but if you live in any of the even number buildings, beware the noise from the garbage trucks from the adjacent businesses is very disturbing at very early morning hours, sometimes even before the sun is up. I haven't had any issues with insects or bedbugs but we do get a lot of solicitors that come knocking at my door once a month. The walls make creaking noises when the temperature drops. It's by no means luxury, nor is it perfect but it's decent. They have been good about shoveling and salting during the winter as well. I had a package stolen when I first moved in but havent had any issues since then. I suspect it was a neighbor who moved out and saw an opportunity right before they left.

THEY TRIED TO PULL A FAST ONE ON ME!!! I was considering moving to this property after my lease was up in August. Two months prior to the end of my lease I had filled out the application, paid the application fee, and paid the holding fee. I had initially signed up for a 1 bedroom standard apartment which was the cheapest apartment you can get at this complex (the others were 1 bedroom deluxe, a 2 bedroom, and a 3 bedroom apartment). Everything was going fine until I saw the apartment they had assigned to me the day before I had moved in. The apartment they tried to put me in was a one bedroom deluxe (which was more money) which was not what I asked for. When I inquired about this the property manager had said that she didn't know that I wanted a one bedroom standard. She basically said either take this apartment or wait awhile for a one bedroom standard apartment to become available. There is no way that she did not know I wanted a one bedroom standard when I said to them multiple times that that is what I wanted. Also, if she wasn't sure she could have gotten in contact with me seeing as she had my information. So I ended up not signing the lease because I didn't want to deal with them anymore. In the future I will not consider renting in this complex. VERY UNPROFESSIONAL!

I have fallen twice on the property and have been injured. The last one I had was a serious injury. I am now looking into senior housing; if something should happen to me, it won't be such a big thing. The location of the property is great and has a lot of neat little shops right near by
When I first moved in, that should have been a sign to leave because I had maggots crawling from my kitchen, but the maintenance guys came within 24 hours. I thought since they came expeditiously, I was ok staying here....why did I do that. Bed bugs, someone almost caught the building on fire and the alarms did not go off in the apartments, men hanging building entrance and I had to buy Pepper Spray for my safety (by the way I am a female), heavy rain and my ceiling and walls near the window in my living room and bedroom were leaking (All they did was paint over the walls), weeks later same thing happens ceiling has wet brown spots...they just painted over that!!! Now I know it's mold. (This ALL happened within a years time) I inform the property manager I want out of my lease (I get the run around that they are working on it), contacted corporate that I wanted to get out of my lease(3rd attempt) but they gave it back to the property manager to handle. Nobody seems to give me a direct answer (which is bad business to me). I technically have legal grounds to leave due to mold in areas they did not "fix." I have more to say but this will take all day. Only pros are location due to shopping centers, restaurants, etc. That's why I gave it 2 stars, but living here is a 1 star experience....you get what you pay for. Trying to be fiscally responsible because I wanted to buy a house, but I rather pay more elsewhere. I checked out luxury apartments ($1000-$1300/month) and my GOD.....some places pay for your cable and not to mention business center, fitness center, washer/dryer, etc!!!! Guys check that out before checking Melrose Place out.
This complex is a great convenience to stores and recreational activities that are not located in the apartments themselves. Even the smallest apartments are cozy. However, It was difficult to get into due to management not being able to provide any information and downgrading our apartment selection. Also, they did not tell us we were approved until a week after they determined that. I do love the area we're in though.
The management isn't very good at disclosing information. They offered me an apartment that had burned down, but didn't tell me that until I looked it up and brought it to their attention. The apartment is nice, needs more closet space and kitchen space. Definitely do not recommend more than one person stay here unless comfortable with little space. Neighborhood is quiet-ish. Near a lot of food places and markets. No pool. No fitness center.
