In many ways, Arlington’s Clarendon/Courthouse neighborhood leads a double life. On the one hand, the mix of upscale single-family homes and swanky apartments combined with the super-convenient access to Washington (just a mile away and served by multiple Metro stops) make this an ideal location for DC-area commuters seeking a more suburban home environment. The abundance of parks and playgrounds reflects the family-friendly nature of the community, and the local public schools are among the best in the region. Parts of the neighborhood also contain several corporate high-rises, giving many folks the option of walking to work.
However, Clarendon/Courthouse also has a lively, fun side. The neighborhood is generally known as the nightlife capital of Arlington – the robust bar and club scene along Clarendon Avenue attracts partiers from across the DC area on weekends.

Property Ratings at Meridian at Courthouse Commons
Agree with all the other negative reviews here. Really old, unsanitary building with horrible management. We had cockroaches in our apartment (living under our dishwasher…) and they wouldn’t let us break our lease to move out. We wanted to move out ASAP to protect our belongings and they wouldn’t give us the common courtesy of breaking our lease with one months’ notice instead of two. Really awful experience in this building and not even close to being worth what you pay. Avoid at all costs, such a waste of time and money moving here!

DO NOT LIVE HERE. The Management is egregiously awful. Lazy Rude Disrespectful Dishonest LAZY AGAIN Poorly Trained Short timers Also its false advertising, NOT A LUXURY Complex at all.

Hello, thank you for sharing your opinions about our community. Our team works hard to accommodate residents in a polite way, so we are sorry to hear about your unfavorable opinions towards them. If you would like to talk about any of your concerns, then please visit or contact our office when you have a moment. We'd like to clarify these matters for you.
If I could give zero stars I would. Accounting - they tell you one thing and then go back and say sorry it is closed out and cannot make an adjustment despite their word. You do not have a full-size fridge, think camper/TV size fridge. Overall building is in poor condition, with dark lights in halls (think horror movie) The concierge is only at the desk part of the day and most of the time they are gone. 500 to remove someone from a lease on renewal dated kitchens with dishwashers that do not work (i've had over 5 service calls for mine) They will place every. blame on you and accept zero accountability.

Hi there, thank you for sharing your review. We appreciate you for bringing your concerns to our attention and are sorry that you are not having a good experience with us thus far. We realize that there may be some areas you're not satisfied within our community, however, our team has been doing our best to make significant improvements, including our newly renovated courtyard. We understand the remainder of your concerns discussed in the review and would be happy to speak with you further regarding them. Please reach out to our office so we can discuss this in more detail. Your comfort is important to us and we look forward to assisting you.
If you own a pet please do NOT move here! Your $500 deposit and $50/month is welcome but your pet is not. They are banned from all outside grounds with fines of $75 and required to be "no more then 2-3 inches while on leash in the building". If you love your pet look elsewhere. If you hate dogs this is the place for you

Hello and thank you for sharing your perspective. Our community welcomes pets, but we also have a responsibility to ensure that every resident can enjoy the community amenities and feel comfortable walking through common spaces. This is why pets are not allowed in our amenities and required to be on a controlled leash in common areas. Please understand, that we regularly receive complaints from residents who don't wish to be around the pets of others and who are prevented from fully enjoying their home when pets are present in communal areas. If you have any questions or additional feedback on this topic, please reach out to us at 703-522-8700 or email us at meridian_courthouse@paradigmcos.com.
By “horrible customer service” I do not mean the front desk folks - they are always incredibly kind, helpful and friendly. The leasing office is absolutely clueless, they’ve provided zero help from start to finish. They tried to rip myself and multiple other residents off, don’t seem to care at all about the customer, and generally are extremely rude/apathetic. What’s great about this apartment complex is not the management, who seem to actively dissuade people from living here, but the location, the residents, the dogs (!) and the actual apartments. If you’re thinking about living here just try to interact with management as little as possible.

Hi there, we are very disappointed to hear about your feelings towards our leasing team. Our goal is to provide courteous, kind, and professional service to all residents, so we are sorry for any interactions with our team members that were less than satisfying for you. With all of this in mind, we would appreciate the chance to have a conversation with you about all of this. We want all of our residents to feel comfortable and happy, and we think a formal discussion will help resolve these concerns. Please email us at meridian_courthouse@paradigmcos.com or call us at 703-522-8700. Thank you!
Although I had a good experience living there for 2 years, after I moved out I had one of the worst customer service experiences of my life. Two months after moving out I received a letter from a collection agency attempting to collect a debt from Meridian. A debt I was never informed about. They said they sent a letter to my last known address, which is my address at Meridian where they knew I didn't live anymore. But I strongly challenge that statement because all my mail was being forwarded to my new address. But regardless, they have my email and phone number, which they've used dozens of times over the years. And finally, the accountant I spoke with on the phone hurled insults at me, told me it's not her job to let me know of the debt, asked me who I thought I was to call her and ask questions, and then yelled byeee byeeee and hung up on me. If you want to be treated like a decent human being, do not move here.

Farah, thanks for reaching out about this. We're glad we had a chance to speak with you to resolve this situation and get the debt removed from the collection agency. We apologize for the way we handled this and appreciate your feedback as we always want to improve. We wish you well on your next adventure!
I would not recommend. The leasing staff is a nightmare and management is clueless. The building is super noisy and you can hear everything. They claim to be dog friendly but try to restrict dogs in common areas (courtyard, rooftop, etc). The building has flooded multiple times since I lived here (about 2 years). The parking garage is poorly designed and it can be hard to find a spot late at night. The appliances are low quality. The recycling room is always overcrowded. They took out the bbqs for renovations but no renovations have occurred in 2 months. The only positive is the friendly neighbors.

Please reach out to us at meridian_courthouse@paradigmcos.com and reference this post. We look forward to connecting with you and improving your residency with us.
Very unprofessional management staff. I spoke with the site level Operations Manager, Tracy regarding a resident complaint and she was extremely passive aggressive, rude and unapologetic with my concern. I’m a new resident and am regretting my decision to move in. I’m awaiting a follow up call from the General Manager, as well as the Regional Manager over this community.
Property Manager at Meridian at Courthouse Commons, Responded To This Review
Dear Resident, we’re sorry to hear about your impression of our community. We in no way intend for our residents to feel as though their concerns aren't important to us. We hope that after your conversation with our property manager today that you see our goal is to be helpful and we hope to prove that going forward.
Is there a way to give a building less than a star? I'll try to break down why this building sucks by category 1) Parking: The parking garage is poorly designed to fit cars. Decent staff might repaint the spots to increase capacity. 2) Noise - Meridian is essentially a post-grad slum lord, and the tenants party like it. Wouldn't be an issue if the management picked up their trash, food waste, and human poop(!). 3) Grounds - See above - the foliage is beautiful, albeit not designed well for the Virginia climate requiring excessive water usage. Trashcans are often overflowing. 4) Construction - The building must not be built well. Constant leaks in the hallways from even the slightest storm. 5) Maintenance- untimely in their response and often do a poor job, not fixing the item requested until after over 5 days in some cases and several requests. 6) Staff - rude, never available, and when available, unhelpful. Bad experience with the front desk, leasing office, and property manager

The meridian deserves one star for the free coffee in the morning (assuming they still have this). They basically cut corners in ways you would not even think possible. Some examples: 1. The concierge is not there 24 hours. They are there from 9AM-I think 1 or 2 AM. Sorry but late at night is when I want to make sure there is someone making sure non-residents aren’t entering the building. Additionally, you would think they would want to start earlier so residents can pick up packages before work. 2. They do not maintain the water heaters in proper working condition. Which could potentially lead to fatal consequences. We had a carbon monoxide leak from our water heater and the gentleman from Washington gas told me it needed to be replaced but the building maintenance just came and patched it. Then when I moved to another unit my neighbors water heater exploded and flooded a bunch of other units. 3. There are no security cameras in the poorly-lit hallways or the garage. You also do not need a fob to press a floor in the elevator like you do for some buildings. This is a problem because there is a homeless shelter about 200 feet from the front door. 4. The gym is way too small for the number of residents. Additionally, residents of the prime also use the gym (idk if they are supposed to or not) at the Meridian because their building does not have one. It is always busy. Also at one point someone stole a bunch of weights from the gym. 5. The sunroom is basically unusable 90% of the year because there is no vent in there so it has no a/c in the summer and no heat in the winter. That said it is good for storage.

I wanted to thank you for sharing your thoughts and feedback with us. I'm disappointed to hear that didn't enjoy your experience while living at our community and that you felt like we didn't take care of you or the community. We have taken your feedback and feedback of others to heart and want to share a few updates and things we have changed which you may not be aware of. Our desk is open until 2am, but we are installing a package locker so residents can have access to their packages before and after our front desk opens. We also have added Common Wealth Joe to the lobby for residents if they would like something more than our complimentary coffee. We have cameras at the entry points of the garages and take safety concerns very seriously. The Prime does have a fitness center, but if residents are coming over we will definitely look into that as they do not have access to use our facilities and we will address it accordingly. We really appreciate you bringing these items to our attention and we will continue to work hard to make other important improvements. Our Manager would welcome an opportunity to speak with you further to mend this relationship if you are open to it? Let us know and we would be happy to reach out. SIncerely, Taryn S.
The charges from the Meridian are ridiculous. They are constantly charing you for every possible thing and I'm still paying and haven't lived there for a month.

Daniel, We want to apologize for your negative experience. We never want any of our residents to feel like we have charged for things that we shouldn't. If there were damage charges to your apartment after moving out that you have questions about, we'd like to discuss it with you if possible. Would you mind reaching out to our manager at 703-522-8700 when you have a moment? It will give us an opportunity to work on mending this relationship and better insight into your specific situation. We look forward to speaking with you soon. Sincerely, Ashleigh N.
No hot water, lying leasing office, smells bad, loud tenants. Stay away!
Almost every place has online reviews by disgruntled residents, so it's hard to know how much weight to give them. I made the mistake of discounting the reviews here that warned about the Meridian's front office and propensity to find ways to charge residents. Please learn from my mistake and stay away from the Meridian and any complex managed by Paradigm. During the apartment application process, I was approved for a lease but promptly inquired about a different term. The rate was going to be much higher with the new term, so I notified them within one day of my intention not to sign the lease. Subsequently, however, they informed me that they would not refund the $400 move-in fee despite the fact the I notified with within one business day of the approval.

I'll preface this by saying we've only lived here for about 6 months. We took over a lease from another tenant here who was moving out of state so we sort of moved in as a trial period to see if we wanted to stay longer. Within the first couple of months we had numerous issues with management. I won't get into what those issues were, but needless to say I was almost ready to move out immediately. However, since those issues were resolved we've actually really enjoyed living here. The apartment itself is adorable and updated and has had very few issues (and anything that does arise the maintenance staff has been fantastic at fixing right away). We're in a corner at the end of the hallway so perhaps we're shielded from a lot of the partying that goes on, but save for a few nights it has been pretty quiet. I've never run across beer cans or anything else mentioned by others. Yes the crowd here is definitely younger college age mostly, and as a couple in our late twenties that can be amusing and annoying at times. We also love the sunroom which we converted into an office, and seems to be an added feature you really can't get for anywhere near the same price anywhere else in the area. And, of course, the easy walk to the metro is wonderful. I agree with the previous reviewer that said the front desk seems never to actually be there. Many of the parking spots are so tiny even my boyfriend's civic can barely fit. I'm generally unhappy when I have to even speak to the leasing office because it's always a struggle and usually they're not particularly friendly, but for the price I'd say it's worth the hassle. All of that being said, when we're able to afford to live in a community with a better management office and more young (hopefully mature) professionals, we're out of here.
It's really unfortunate. I've been living in the Meridian for going on 3 years and it has gotten so much worse over that time. If you're looking for another poorly renovated (nice granite sure, but the light switch in my room goes to NOTHING and air circulation does not exist) and disrespectful management companies, then this is your place. My roommate and I decided to upgrade to a 2 bedroom unit within the complex this summer and the move was horribly mismanaged. The leasing agent was unresponsive and butchered our moving schedule when booking the loading docks and service elevators, even after we had asked for double checked confirmations. Since we've settled into our new unit, we have dealt with nothing but disrespect and rudeness when and maintenance issues or other questions have come up. On top of all of this, the building continues to be a glorified frat house. Weekends are very loud through the thin walls. And the awful HVAC system turns our apartment into a hotbox when our neighbors are smoking weed (another instance where I was continually ignored by the building). All in all, we pay way too much for our unit and the disrespectful attitudes shown toward tenants.
Management is completely unresponsive and inflexible. I had to wait more than 3 days to get calls and or emails returned about financial questions. Completely unacceptable. They make moving out as difficult as possible. Don't even bother.
The property management team is unhelpful and rude. Most of the residents are 22 years old and leave beer cans/trash around the building. Walls are paper thin. Good things: location. That's about it.
The extremely young residents that leave beer cans all over the place aren't even the worst part. Twice in the time I've lived here, I've gotten extremely high water bills in excess of $60 and the building staff has done nothing to help. They are also incredibly rude. Too, the front desk is generally vacant. One time I went to get a package. When I went down, there was a notice that said the concierge would be back at 6:00 PM. When I went back at 6:02 PM, the notice then read the concierge would be back at 6:15 PM. This place is the pits of Arlington.
We have lived in a newly renovated studio with sunroom, which is basically the size of a junior one bedroom since the sunroom has a door. Pros: *Rent is one of the more competitive prices for the area. *Size is great for a studio; plenty of storage and open floor plan kitchen (no galley kitchens). *Apartment fixtures are nice and in good condition. *Building is in great condition; any maintenance issues are dealt with quickly. *Leasing office has always been responsive and pleasant to work with. *In-unit Washer & Dryer is super convenient. *Garage parking, which always has plenty of spots. *Sound-proofing between apartments is pretty good; we've never heard anyone, but we have quiet neighbors. *Individual control of heat/AC through nest. *Unlike some other apartments in the area, utilities are based on individual apartment usage, therefore you don't get charged for common areas or other peoples wasteful use of water/electricity/etc. *Typical amenities for the area (pool, gym, free coffee). *About a 5 minute walk to the metro; both sliver and orange lines are at station so it's easy & quick to get in/out of DC. *Walking distance to Clarendon, which has some nice restaurants & bars. Quick bus to Georgetown. Cons: *Sound-proofing through the front door is very poor, so it can get loud if you have noisy neighbors walking in the hallway. *The sunroom isn't insulated, so it gets cold in winter and hot in summer. *The design of the parking garage makes the spaces extremely narrow; if you are not a good driver, beware. *No dogs allowed, and $500 pet fee for a cat is a bit steep. *You need to give 60 days notice whether you will resign your lease, which is a bit long. *Street parking in the area is just so-so, and guest parking costs $6 per day. *Gym is small and usually packed in the evenings.
I absolutely love the Meridian at Courthouse. It's 2 blocks from the metro, convenient to route 50 and 66, and has all the bells and whistles you could want. All of the apartments are brand new remodeled and the finishes are beautiful. The gym has brand new equipment and the pool has relatively new lounge chairs. I really have no complaints and will definitely be renewing my lease here.
-This apartment is definitely a hot spot for recent graduates considering it feels like a catalogue for Chive and Lily Pultizer. While they're are a few families it's much better for singles or young couples looking to live close to DC - It's less than a 7 minute walk from the metro and only 1 stop away from DC (Foggy Bottom) to be exact - The concierges in Phase II are always wonderful and really nice men to deal with - The leasing department really needs to implement a standard on boarding procedure are you never get the same answer twice and only one woman in the office seems to be confident - Overall I would live here again, but definitely not in the sun room as the temperature changes are too extreme
This community provides quality homes at some of the best prices you can find in the area. The apartments have sunrooms which can be used as bedrooms, allowing relatively affordable rent for roommates. The amenities are very nice and include a pool, gym, clubrooms with billiards, putting green, grills, rooftop patio, and a peaceful courtyard amid the urban neighborhood. The friendly and helpful staff contribute to the enjoyable atmosphere in these apartments.
I really like living here. You can't beat the location, just a few minutes from DC and a couple blocks to the metro. And the amenities here are great. The staff are very friendly!
I drove down from Massachusetts to move after the agent we were working with assured me everything was all set. When I got here she was on her day off and the other agents I spoke with told me they had no idea what I was talking about and that I couldn't move in, but they could show me the apartment if I wanted. I was not about to move any of my stuff in to an apartment that I didn't have the key for. My new roommates, who were not there at the time, did respond to emails from the renting office and it eventually got resolved... the next day. Apparently no one in the renting office talks to each other. This was completely unacceptable and very unprofessional. I've heard from others of the incompetence of this renting office as well. The apartment itself isn't bad. I'm in the Chesapeake floor plan, I have the bedroom attached to the public bathroom. This room is pretty small, moreso than it looks on the floor plan. I have a queen sized bed and a smallish desk and chair set up comfortably along with some other smaller pieces of furniture (nightstand etc...). Probably the worst part of this floor plan is the living room, it's an awkward shape and we just can't figure out how to arrange it while leaving a path open to the glass-enclosed balcony. By the way, this 'glass-enclosed balcony' is the management company's response to their high rent prices. They're having trouble filling units, as evidenced by their constant promotions and balloons and signs outside, so they took two-bedroom apartments like this and put glass walls in what I can only assume used to be part of the living/dining areas and turned those into third bedrooms. Yes, one wall is glass, yes, it's regular old transparent glass. If you live in the glass bedroom you'll need curtains or something for privacy. My roommate in this bedroom has issues with the central air and heating, it's actually become something of a sore spot between us with him wanting it colder during summer and warmer during winter.
This highrise apartment complex is perfect for the right age group. There are quite a few youngsters living here where their parents are footing the tab. With that comes the occassional party that can keep you up at night. Since security doesn't work past 2am, these parties go unchecked unless you contact the police department. If your fortunate as myself, you can find a location within the building where there are respectful tenants. I would recommend getting a unit at the end of the hallway. It's worth noting that the staff is firm with tenants when notified. When I moved in this unit, it was outdated but the price and location was just right. Over the past year, they have started to update most of the units and they look quite nice and are reasonably priced. The amenities are a notch above most other complexes in the area. If a lap pool is important to you, this complex has one of the better ones in the area. You can certainly find a better property with better asthetics but you will pay for it even with the move-in discounts. If you don't have flexibility in your budget, this is probably one of the better options in the area. One downside is that Meridian isn't wired to allow for competition with regards to phone, internet and TV. Comcast is your only option and as most have experienced, it's substandard. Location is another huge benefit for this complex. You are aproximatelely 5 min (walking) to AMC theater, Metro (Courthouse), and many eating establishments. Whole Foods is relatively close as well and Georgetown is a 5-10 min cab ride. Annual increases in rent are usually around $75 or so. First vehicle parking is $100. I've been residing here for 1.5 years and highly recommend Meridian if the above noted is not a deal breaker for you.
excelente neighborhood, the metro is super close and the amenities are great!
I just moved in to the Meridian in June, and it's a gorgeous apartment. There is so much space. It is the best place for the best price in the Courthouse area. The gym is nice. It's a little small for the amount of people that use it, but it's manageable. The pool has been awesome this summer, although it isn't open on Mondays. :( My only real complaint is that the parking garage is super tight and pretty dark in some areas, but that's not a problem if you don't have a car!
I've really enjoyed living in the Meridian. The residents are all young professionals, which is a really nice environment to be in. The staff is always helpful and nice. There are a few things I wish they would improve like adding Wi-Fi to the outdoor patio and gym. All in all though, it's been a wonderful experience and I highly recommend living here.
The Meridian at Courthouse has been a great apartment for the newly married and new to DC residents. The proximity to all kinds of transportation (metro, buses, Uber, etc.) makes this a great location right outside of the city. Restaurants around the area are average with nice happy hours, but none of them are the kind that you are going to write home about. The soon-to-be downside of the location/apartment is that there is a brand new homeless shelter (opening late 2015 or early 2016) going in two blocks from the apartment and right between it and the metro. The apartment is great for anyone right out of college and it is probably time to look elsewhere for those in the late 20's. Plenty of great spots nearby that are brand new and hopefully will bring the prices down if the law of supply and demand it true.
Newly renovated apartments are nice. Big windows in the bedroom brings in nice light which is good because there is no ceiling light in the room. The main concierge is very nice and helpful. The location is great because it's close to the metro and stuff to do, but it itself is in a quiet corner. Overall, I like it quite a bit.
Close to the Metro. New apartment renovations. Nice concierge. The leasing apartment is a bit rigid and can be a pain. The apartment itself is clean and nice, and the walls are thick enough you rarely hear neighbors. It's easy to get just about anywhere, but is tucked away just enough for some peace and quiet.
I've only lived here about a month, but so far so good! We got a good promotional deal with 2 months free rent which is amazing! Especially when our apartment is newly renovated (new floors, kitchen and bathroom). Amazing amenities, gym is a little small, but does the job, racquetball court, basketball court, pool, sundeck, club room with a pool table. Maintenance has been responsive and accommodating. Would definitely recommend.
While the Meridian at Courthouse Commons has a great location, it can sometimes feel like a glorified frat house, especially on the weekends. That, paired with our very out of date appliances (though they are working on renovations slowly) makes it a very mediocre place to live. Definitely not a "forever home" for me. The property management staff is usually pretty attentive, but overall I think it's over-priced for what you get.
The Meridian is, overall, an awesome deal. Though it's not super cheap, you get a TON of space for your money - way more than you could ever find right in the District. The sunrooms are big enough to be bedrooms which also cuts down the cost for 2 people. There are awesome amenities including a pool, gym, and several courtyards with BBQs to use. It's a short walk to the Court House Metro and there's also a bus stop right around the corner. Though the staff doesn't always have it together and you need to be patient when contacting the leasing office, they make up for it with this amazing building. There are also great restaurants and bars within short walking distance or one Metro stop away in Clarendon. The building is mostly 20-somethings and people just out of college, which is also really great if you fall into that category!!
Steps from courthouse metro, great restaurants and coffee shops nearby and only a few minutes from downtown DC.
This building has all of the amenities you could want, a pool, gym, racquetball courts, yoga studio, etc. It's walking distance to the Courthouse Metro stop and just a quick ride away from DC.
