Property Ratings at Merino at Scottsdale
Avoid Baron properties in general. I started off my lease at a different Baron property that was uninhabitable. After speaking with higher ups within the property management company, they allowed me to get out of the old lease and start a different one at their sister property Merino at Scottsdale. I had to pay a higher amount in rent per month at the new location, but it was the only way I could get out of the uninhabitable apartment without breaking my lease. I ended up having to pay over $300 more a month and didn't even get to pick the location/size of the new apartment because there was limited availability. The apartments at Merino at Scottsdale are terribly built. They use the cheapest everything. The apartments are extremely poorly insulated, so it is cold in the apartment all the time. They are also super loud with both noise from McDowell Rd, the parking lot, and the surrounding apartments on every side. I live on the second floor so there is no one above me, but I can still hear every little noise in the surrounding apartments. I hear neighbors loud music, couples arguing, etc. When I initially moved in, my neighbor below me offered me crack to smoke. I told him no thank you. The parking situation is a mess, people always park in my assigned spot and the towing company takes forever. The public parking is super far from my unit so it is very inconvenient, especially if I have groceries to bring in. Not to mention that almost every appliance in my apartment has need worked on. My A/C unit is crazy loud because of the design of the apartment, it is in a spot that creates an echo. The washer and dishwasher needed fixed because it wasn't draining, the hot/cold water switch sides, the garbage disposal broke, and my door needed fixed. They also would have raised my rent if I would have renewed even though they have done no renovations to my unit. I opted out of renewal for obvious reasons and can't wait to move out.
This place was a gem before Merino took over. I was planning on living here, happily, for a long time and had no complaints. Since Merino has taken over, I've lived in an active construction zone for the last 8 months and they will not be done any time soon. Management has zero people skills, horrible communication skills and do not know how to make their tenants feel heard or validated for our concerns. Don't trust these people, they're slimy.
The new owners are cutting costs and price gouging tenants - everyone is moving out because of this. New managers talk down to tenants and treat them poorly. The apartment grounds look nasty, new maintenance doesn't maintain the property and doesn't know how to fix anything - and that's when they're not leering at tenants. At this rate, there won't be anyone left within a year and the place will close down.
The new property owners have desecrated this complex. There are rows of unoccupied units because they’ve terminated every tenant’s lease. Water is shut off for days at a time, industrial sized dumpsters are obstructing roughly 15 of the uncovered parking spaces. Pool area is being demolished. Office is unreachable for any inquiries even during normal business hours.
Without going into to much detail, to retain anonymity, I have had a very disappointing experience with the new management company. All previous reviews prior to May 2022 are irrelevant because the management company has changed. If you are considering living here, I highly recommend you reconsider. It’s not worth it to pay as much as they are asking for terrible management with no amenities. I miss the old place! Will provide a more detailed review with specifics when I move out.
Sad to see so many empty apartments with everyone leaving... New company bought complex in May, and rent is due to go up $900 if we stay. ALSO, we cannot stay in our unit if we wanted to since they're making everyone move out to "update" the units...They're -repainting and throwing in new stove and refrigerators. Sad since I liked the place but they're destroying the community in the name of greed. All the reviews regarding David and Susan mean nothing since they're gone too just an FYI.
I have live here for 5 years now and I can say I like my "HOME", and the staff goes out of the way to make everything comfortable for you as much as they can! The Pet owner need to pick up after their Pets! That's True that make our property SINK! And when you need something done in your apartment they get on it done right away! So I Say to The resident that's not happy and Stated "Don't Do It!" Give them a chance and stop being so grumpy :)
Once they get your money they don’t want anything to do with you. Reserve parking only when the office is open. Not quite at all management response call the cops. Apartment dirty, ceiling fan dirty, dirt around top of shower, stove had so much flour on clock you couldn’t tell what time it was windows have paint on them and not clean at all. crappy job painting, laminate flooring with gaps. Employees act like there better than their tenets. The grounds are never picked up trash cigarettes butts and dog waste. Do not move here.

I just move in and I would like to say that Am glad I chose this community ...I visit lots of properties in Scottsdale...and I came back not because of the rent price but very nice staff.
I have lived in a number of apartment complexes over the years and I really love it at Scottsdale Belle Rive. After years of apartment living, the thing I think helps this place stand out - you can't hear your neighbors! Every once in a while I can hear a slight floorboard shift from my upstairs neighbor if I really concentrate on listening for it, but the walls are nice and thick, and even during the day it is nice a quiet inside the apartment(as someone who used to work graveyard shift I notice that kind of thing). I have had 2 different upstairs neighbors in the 2 years I have lived there and the only thing I ever heard was one time the maintenance team was doing renovation work - which they only did between 9am and 5pm on week days to be considerate and didn't last more than a few days. I am in the 2 bedroom 2 bath, the kitchen is a bit on the small side but I'm no master chef so that's fine for me, and considering the kitchen size there is lots of storage including a pantry. I love having 2 bathrooms and having a washer dryer in unit - they are the stacking kind not full size, but they aren't tiny either, and it makes more space for storage. Our unit also came with a small outside storage area that has a keyed lock which is nice. My only "complaint" would be that our apartment backs up to McDowell and you can hear road noise in the back bedrooms through the windows, but a running fan makes enough white noise to drown that out, and it's just car noise not people yelling etc. Maintenance is great about fixing issues, and I have a request on my apartment that they don't enter unless I am home because my cats are ninjas that like to try to escape, I appreciate that they are sensitive to that request. I also appreciate I can write a personal check for rent rather than having to run somewhere to make a money order each month. If you are looking to live in 'Shi Shi Scottsdale' this might fall short of your expectations, but if you want a great place to live that's close to Tempe Marketplace and Old Town Scottsdale and the Freeway (I swear nothing is more than 15 min away anymore) this place is Great!
I loved living here! Here are the highlights: affordable rent, spacious 1 bedroom unit, well-maintained property, great location. The office staff knows who you are and you always see a familiar friendly face. The community is small with a wide range of residents (families, young professionals, etc). My visiting friends and family would always compliment the pool. I unfortunately had to move out due to changing jobs, but otherwise I would have stayed here much longer. I highly recommend this place!
I toured the property today with the Manager and was thoroughly impressed. I rented the upcoming Loft for a June move-in. The office was extremely busy, phone constantly ringing but he managed to spent extra time showing the features of the community. I definitely recommend a tour of the community.
I gave this complex a call to ask about one of their openings and the gentleman at the leasing office did not seem to really care that I was interested since I am not in AZ to do a walk through. I asked for some pictures of the actual unit instead since I needed to secure a home before I got there and he sounded like he was much too busy to help me but that he would try later in the day and insisted I mail them $200 for my application (thankfully, I did not do that). 3 days later, multiple phone calls and messages and I still haven't had anyone get back to me with additional information or photos of the apartment I was interested in. Definitely not a good first impression and not a helpful staff. I am glad I found out in the beginning instead of half way through a lease!
Property Manager at Merino at Scottsdale, Responded To This Review
I am truly sorry about your experience you had with my Leasing Office while trying to secure an apartment from out of state. After speaking with the Leasing office, and reviewing the 'traffic report' it appears the staff was over-whelmed by the number of inquiries that came in for this Studio. When the Leasing agent asked for you to immediately complete the on-line application and send it in ASAP! along with a $150 holding, they were trying to rent you the only apartment that was available for the whole moth of May. You declined, and insisted on more photos of this Studio. During this back and forth phone conversation the Leasing office was actually touring this apartment to numerous prospective Renters, and averaging over 20 calls per day for this one unit. I am truly sorry this apartment was rented out so quickly, however, I do not see anything that my staff did wrong. Our Studios are extremely popular as they do include a washer & dryer in the price. The leasing staff did put you on a wait-list for any upcoming Studios that may open up. Good luck, and thank you for your interest in our Community. -Management.
I rented the 700 sq ft one bedroom with the new tile floors and couldn't be happier. The staff was extremely efficient and even had me moveing in 1 day sooner (with out charging me) to help coordinate with my movers demanding schedule. I noticed later my movers had locked me out of my new apartment and was surprise to have the onsite manager come by at 9:00pm to unlock my door without charging me. I expected to pay something, but he said "No Charge!". So far, my guests have given me the 'thumbs up' on my rental choice!
I just came back from touring a two bedroom and had a very nice impression of the place. The office was clean, smelt nice, staff was very friendly, and the model looked good. I only need a one bedroom and so he put me on a waitlist for the next opening. It was nice, instead of rushing me out the door, the Manager spent over 20 minutes with me going over the highlights of he property and the neighborhood.
I was treated so poorly by the "man" that runs the front desk. He has no social skills as well as is insulting and the rudest person I've ever met. I will be contacting the property management to ensure no one else is ever treated in that way. Shame on whomever hired him.
I work in Chandler, and my fiance works in North Scottsdale. This is the best apartment that we could find under $1000 INCLUDING a washer / dryer. We needed to be closer to work as the long commutes were wearing us out. Now,we each drive 5 miles to work. My neighbors are quiet, I feel safe and plan on renewing another for another year. We are very happy living at the Belle Rive. -Nicki N.
This place had me from the start, washers and dryers in the unit, a fantastic paradise-like pool with cabanas, friendly and attentive office staff, a fitness center I actually use frequently, and the location is perfect. I can get to Old Town, Tempe Marketplace, Mill Ave, and so much more in minutes! I also love the El Dorado park nearby, it's in the green belt and a nice place to walk around amongst trees and small lakes for the scenery and peace. I've never lived in a complex for more than a year until this place, and I've actually made good friendships with quite a few other tenants here! Definitely recommend!
Nice apartment complex with a large pool and barbeque area Living space is small.
