Trumbull/Upper Stratford/Shelton is an expansive area encompassing the land north of Bridgeport and Lower Stratford. The area is largely residential and complemented by lush woods. Renters have options of modern apartments and townhomes for rent. Although this community is mostly residential, Highways 25 and 8 allow for easy travel to surrounding areas, including the 25-mile drive east to New Haven and the 70-mile drive to New York. These two roads also hold the main retail areas including places like Hawley Lane Mall and Westfield Trumbull. Outside of this area, residents are in proximity to some of Connecticut’s best attractions like the Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo and the Roosevelt Forest.

Property Ratings at Merion Riverwalk Apartment Homes
From the moment I met Anne, and saw the apartment I knew this was the place for me. She made the move in process very smooth, any problems were addressed quickly and done well. People here are very friendly, it has a very positive and welcoming vibe. The only negative is the lack of visitor parking.
Property Manager at Merion Riverwalk Apartment Homes, Responded To This Review
You're right... this is the right place for you! We, and especially Anne, are so happy that you decided to make your home here at Merion Riverwalk.
Unethical manager that the staff fully supports. Never sign a 48 page lease.
We absolutely love living in the Birmingham building. The apartment is huge for the price. It feels even bigger because the ceilings are around 12 feet tall. The factory touches are great and make it feel like a trendy city building. Some people complain about noise in the buildings, but we don't have much of an issue. Sometimes we hear the people above us walking around or if their tv is really loud, but otherwise it's generally pretty quiet and either way it is quiet in the bedroom so it's not a huge deal. We can walk to just about anything we need except a grocery store (restaurants, bars, barber, salon, mechanic, smoke shop, convenience store, post office, etc.). Parking a second car is occasionally an issue if there is some kind of event going on in town, but otherwise isn't really an issue.
I've lived at Avalon Shelton for about 2 years. It's a good place to live, it should be at $1500 to $3000 a month. Staff is friendly. Biggest complaint is that you hear a lot of road noise from traffic driving by.
This is definitely one of my fav apts I've had. Of course there are pros and cons to every home though.I'd actually give it 3 1/2 stars, but that was not an option. So since I love it more than not, I rounded up.Let's start with what I love..People here are very friendly. Almost everyone greets one another with a smile,it's like a breath of fresh air. I've never lived in such a friendly community. The amenities are nice, pool is big with almost always a place to relax.Chairs always available.Fire pit area is lovely with with river running behind it.I even took my maternity pictures there!Nice brick dog walk along the river, very clean inside and out. The maintenance program is amazing easy convenient and fast. And there is more than enough to do!Beautiful park 2 blocks down with weekly events such as carnivals, bands, drive in movies etc.Indian wells with another park down the street.Great restaurants and bars in the area. And a great trail that runs all the way to Asonia!! However, there are a few things that are not so great about living here.Problem number one.Be warned!Rent goes up EVERY year at all Avalons.I've lived at Avalon Norwalk as well, and same thing. However rent went up dramatically my first year at Avalon Shelton, $160 per mth!Didn't even know that was legal! That's why there is so much turnover here. Also, visitor parking is horrendous.Visitors must either park in limited area in front that only fits about 10 cars, or in municipal parking down the street. This area is filled with industrial and abandoned buildings with graffiti, and while perfectly safe, is not appealing to the eye.So to ask visitors to park down the street, they may not feel comfortable walking 2 blocks, and NO ONE is going to want to park that far when it's raining or 10 degrees below 0 in winter. So as I said the view from the front apartments are not so great. View from the back, AMAZING. I've gotten used to the rough exterior on the way here though. I feel it actually adds character now that I live here. But I must say, it turned me off when I first moved here. Things that need fixing on common grounds sometimes take quite awhile. Our stairs leading to the dog walk on both ends of the buildings were blocked off for at least 5 mths bc the steps needed fixing. Both grills are broken by the pool at this time and they know when they will be fixed. As high as rent has gotten,we should be able to enjoy the last of summer with ALL amenities available. Hope this helps!
If you are looking for an apartment building with tons of aesthetic character, this is the place to be. The common areas are kept very clean and modern, but have an old factory charm. I have been in my apartment for over two months now and I love it. It is huge, full of character, and at a great price. Also, our unit doesn't have another unit below us, so we don't have to worry about making too much noise. We can hear our upstairs neighbors, but it's not too loud and very easy to drone out. Each apartment is individually owned though, so I can't speak for any other apartment. I can imagine that having an inconsiderate neighbor (example: one that is very loud) could cause problems, as it seems the ceilings/floors don't have much insulation to provide a sound barrier. The up-side to that is that the ceilings are awesomely high, making the space seem even larger. To make a long story short, I would try to see the unit during hours you think people will be around so you can make sure the noise from neighbors isn't too much for you before you sign a contract. Also, all of the common areas are super quiet, which I like, but if you are looking for a place where neighbors are social with each other, this probably isn't the building for you. HOWEVER, there is a cute green right on the river where a lot of community events are hosted, and you can VERY easily walk to it. It's also within a 5 minute drive to a state park with hiking and a small beach on the river. The only downside for me, personally, is the parking, which is very limited. Each unit is assigned one spot. However, there is generally a lot of free public parking very closeby. In the wintertime, though, shoveling is going to be necessary. All of that being said, it's exactly what I was looking for and I couldn't have asked for a better fit.
We love living in the Birmingham building. It combines an old world renovated factory charm with a comfortable very modern apartment set up. The apartments are technically condos, which just means they're independently owned, which adds a cool element of uniqueness. Great location for accessing route 8 and route 15. It's also wonderful being able to walk to pretty much anything you might need except a grocery store.
Gorgeous new building, friendly staff, but no 24 hour concierge... Packages get delivered right to your door, but what happens if your're out of town for a few days? The package just sits outside of your door? New to the building... will probably have more to say in a month or so.
The apartment was okay, not great. The staff were horrible. I did a short term lease and was given a final balance. I paid what they told me to pay and vacated and they told me all was well. Months later, the staff tried to come after me for more money even though I was paid off. Really badly managed. Avoid this place unless you want to deal with this.
