More so than many of its neighboring communities, the city of Norwalk is all about the coastal lifestyle. The famous Norwalk Islands sit just offshore in Long Island sound, providing a popular area for kayaking, fishing, clamming, and bird-watching (if you’re lucky, you may even spot some deer or seals). For nature lovers preferring more accessible encounters, the Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk is a crowd pleaser and attracts visitors from all over New England.
Norwalk’s charm comes in large part from the many historic houses and buildings, including lighthouses dating back as far as the 1820s. The city celebrates its history as an oyster-farming community with the annual Norwalk Oyster Festival, which regularly draws national touring musicians as part of its entertainment lineup. In recent years, Norwalk has also supported more public art initiatives, resulting in many murals popping up around the city and a renewed focus on community involvement in the arts.

Property Ratings at Merritt River Apartments
I did not enjoy my residence here, lived here for three years. There are car and apartment thefts, to start. Extremely noisy, whether it's from the other residents, your neighbors, dogs barking out of their windows all day, or street noise, even on the top floor. I wasn't even on the train side. You see directly into other people's apartments from your window. Charged high rent from the start, then skyrocketed my rent the second year with only 30 days notice. I complained about my neighbor blasting her TV until 3am literally every night to the point where I couldn't sleep in my only bedroom and they did nothing. I was lucky that she moved 6 months later. I was by the elevator so I heard it going up and down all day long. I had shaggy, gross carpeting that wasn't new when I moved in, plumbing problems, fridge problems, and dryer problems, all of which they were very reluctant to fix. The concierge staff is extremely nice but it doesn't make up for it. You hear children loudly playing in the courtyard all day and evening, and the pool is slammed when it does open in the summer. The gym is so small and so busy and awkward because you are on top of each other in there. Live literally anywhere else, not worth the cost.
The team always ready to help with a smile. The facilities all over beautifully kept and all the tenants are lovely and with a ready smile as we meet in the elevastor. Love to see all the little children and all the dogs. We don't have a dog any more, but love to see all the wonderful dogs in the building.
The building seems to be well constructed from a sound barrier perspective. Some of the fixtures and countertops in my apartment however could use some updating. The staff so far has been responsive and friendly. And I love the community board for selling things etc.
I would recommend this apartment community because it's conveniently located to local parkway, shopping centers, and it's a peaceful community, with a great in-house staff! Most everyone is friendly and the grounds are kept very clean.
Service request was handled promptly and to my complete satisfaction... would definitely recommend this Merritt River Apartment community. Thank You.
I think the system that the rent is established, as it could change from day to day, is an unfair and greedy business practice.
The courtesy and professionalism of the staff here is absolutely outstanding. Every interaction I have with the maintenance and concierge teams is a joy. They are always kind, friendly, happy, smiling, helpful, and excellent at their jobs. Can't praise these wonderful people enough.
If they cleaned up the hallways, garbage rooms, elevators and pool areas and had some rules about the dogs barking night and day and pooping and peeing anywhere and someone took an occasional walk to see how everything is doing, who is at the pool,, clean up the garages, etc I could recommend the place without hesitation.
Location is great, ascetics and amenities are great, a little costly for the larger apartments but it is in-line with other luxury apartments in this market. Walking distance to the train station is a huge plus.
Already have recommended this community to several friends. The concierge and maintenance teams are terrific. We sold our house and moved here because we are retired and no longer wanted to take care of a house and yard. We've never been disappointed in our decision.
I still struggle with the prices a little bit, but overall I had a wonderful experience at the Merrit River Apartments and would recommend it to anyone wanting an extremely nice commute to the M7 business center.
terrific community but costs are escalating
I like the construction of the building being cement, eliminates neighbor noise. Amenities are great.
Good staff always makes for a better building but with the high prices of these units the staff is not the mail factor in recommending this building.
A great place to live . the office people, concierge and the maintance people are all very friendly and helpful
Quiet, friendly, sound proof, good structure and amenities.
I would recommend for all reasons BUT that the rent is too high.
Merritt River is a lovely building set along the Norwalk River in Norwalk, Connecticut. It has a welcoming concierge to greet us , accept packages and dry cleaning, and/or just be a listening ear for those of us who need to just "chat". The Club Room offers a gas fireplace, several TV's, and amenities renters can reserve for entertaining. The coffee machine and homemade cookies are always a" hit". The fitness center has 24 hour access. We have a large courtyard with a pool, planters with dogwoods and seasonable plants which are surrounded by comfortable seating areas with firepits. The grills are used nightly by the residents. As for the maintenance staff and managers, they are always courteous and accessible.. The building is pet friendly and provides a river walk for the dog walkers. Located on the Route 7 corridor, bus service, Metro North's Merritt River Station, and a parkway access are a block away.
Living at Merritt River is very convenient. Located close to all the highways and train station. Clean and secure with lots of amenities. The pool is spotless and there is a gas grill for use as needed. Great place to live.
Our one bedroom is exactly what we needed! We are in the area for a 3 month period while our daughter attends treatments. This apartment location, amenities and price are perfect. There are plenty of restaurants, grocery stores, pharmacies and other life essentials nearby including the train station. The common areas are clean, open and welcoming. We even grill there and bring it back to our place for a family meal. Our resident manager, Jennifer, and the maintenance team were quick to answer questions and help us set up too. We either workout on site in the gym, walk the trail near the river or in the neighborhood behind the building. We truly couldn't ask for better accommodations while we are here! Thank You!!
Management company is the epitome of unprofessional
The apartments are well appointed and the management company is responsive. Very convenient if you have a car, with shopping and the parkway nearby. Access to the train station is a bit awkward although Metro-North promises to make improvements. If you do not have access to a car, this would not be a good choice as the complex is not within easy/pleasant walking distance to supermarket, restaurants or other shopping.
