Property Ratings at Metropolitan Artist Lofts
Super amazing area for artists to expand, network, and focus on their projects. The amenities that are offered are great helps for growing your arts.
I moved in while Carla was the manager and it was amazing. The best management I had ever had to work with for an apartment. She was nice, fast to respond to concerns, and always available to hear you out on anything. With the new management they are rarely in the office, will tow your car without even trying to contact you, even if you have a pass to be in the parking lot, and will turn off a switch clearly labeled KEEP ON so it shut down all of our electronics that are set up to constantly run certain programs which could have caused irreparable damage. Today was my final straw with this management team, at 10:00am all of the fire alarms went off in the building. The alarms were on for 12 minutes. That does not seem like a long time but when it is sudden, you have no idea why it is happening, your pets are freaking out, and your spouse works from home and is constantly on the phone or conference calls for work it is a VERY long time and he missed 3 potential sales calls. When I opened the front door I found a notice that according to the manager, because I immediately called him, was supposed to go out on Tuesday (its friday). Another resident informed us that at 8am he left to go get groceries and he saw the management team putting up the flyers. And since I got home at 9pm the previous night I know there was no flyer on my door. Less than 2 hour notice, or non notice since I never saw the letter until I opened the door to find out if our building was on fire, and when I called I got "It wont be that long." Dude I am PISSED, this is not how management should be doing things and this NEVER would have happened with Carla. Just signed a 6 mo lease to stay here but once that lease is up we will be seriously thinking about staying at another location. The units are nice, the location is great, but I refuse to deal with a management team that does not give a crap about its residents and cant be bothered to even give anyone notice for something that is this disruptive. I could have taken my pets to my mothers house, or even up to my work for the day and my spouse could have gone to his office to work for the day. Easily avoidable situation but too lazy to care, which is sad since otherwise the place was great and we usually tell everyone we know about how great the unit is, but no longer.
Property Manager at Metropolitan Artist Lofts, Responded To This Review
Hi Reviewer, Thank you for taking the time to provide this feedback to us. I know this took time out of your day and I appreciate you giving us an opportunity to see where we can improve. Carla was a wonderful manager who went to great lengths to provide exceptional service to her residents. This level of service is a Dominium standard and I sincerely apologize that your recent experience proves otherwise. We will make sure moving forward, proper notice is given to residents to avoid any unexpected surprises and I am sincerely sorry that happened. We want you to have an outlet to express frustrations or even share positive feedback, so please feel free to contact me directly at (763) 452-3147, or by email at arohlfing@dominiuminc.com should you ever need to speak with someone directly. Sincerely, Anna Rohlfing, Dominium Regional Manager
The building has had a serious mice infestation for at least two years.
Property Manager at Metropolitan Artist Lofts, Responded To This Review
Hello, Thank you for expressing your concerns regarding your concerns about the pest control at the property. A letter was sent to residents informing them of the issues encountered. We have been actively working with a 3rd party company to monitor the issue, and additional measures were put in place based on concerns from residents. We have not had any reports in the recent months and we encourage our residents to reach out immediately if they have any concerns so we can address and actively resolve the problem. If you or other residents have other concerns or feedback, please contact the Management Office at (314) 535-2110. Thank you, David Lee, Metropolitan Artist Lofts Community Manager
I have only lived here for about 4 months, so take this review with a grain of salt. I saw the negative reviews and decided that it may be good to have a counter-point for those interested. Location - Amazing. We can get anywhere in St. Louis in 15 minutes or so, with 64 being close and 44 not being too far. It's a quick jaunt downtown or to the Grove. There are quite a few decent (and a few iffy) places to eat close by and a grocery store that is a 5 minute drive away. I wish there was a quick grocery place that was more walkable, but that's not the worst. Price - Amazing. I've lived plenty of places in STL and paid much more than this rent for far less. I have access to nearly every amenity I want (only a few tears for the lack of ice maker). Open floor plan, dishwasher, garbage disposal, washer and dryer, concrete floors that are a breeze to clean... you can even have pets! (for a deposit and small rental increase) Management - Great (so far). It's owned by an outside company, Dominium, but you won't really notice. The management they put in place can be a little enthusiastic with constant notifications of issues, sprays, leaks, etc., but it hasn't really bothered us. Much better than the alternative of never hearing from the landlord, especially when issues happen. I can see why others here get annoyed, but having lived in the opposite situation, going days without hot water or trash piling up, I prefer this! I will also note that they receive tax credits for providing housing to those with reduced income, so there is an income cap - additionally, it caters to artists, so one of the residents will need to be in an art trade of some kind (includes photography, culinary arts, and graphic design, among the more "familiar" art trades). Anyway, if you meet the requirements, I can't recommend this building enough. No issues, and I feel like I am living the modern city-dweller's dream, for a fraction of the cost!
I really enjoyed my stay here for the past 2.5 years. The management was wonderful and knew most residents on a personal level. Sure they inspected/sprayed the apartments about once a quarter, but it never felt overbearing; I assumed inspections would be more routine with subsidized housing. Furthermore, the apartments themselves were beautiful- lofted ceilings, concrete flooring, and up-to-date appliances. Amenities were great too and it meant I wouldn't have to get a gym membership. The only issue I had was with street noise, but that's what you get for living in the heart of Midtown. Overall, I loved it here!
Where do I start. Constantly having to enter your apartment ( at least once a month it seem.) Can't have a girlfriend spending too many nights they will say she has to be on the lease or they'll harass you about it everytime. They tried to terminate my lease for my girlfriend not being on the lease but being here. The leasing office manager can be ignorant at times and play favorites with residents. Upon move in door knobs were broken large stains on the floor. Best thing was rent price and location. Other than that I'd throw the wholend management and maintenance crew away.
Constantly finds reasons to come into your apartment. Spray for bugs, inspection, another inspection. They come in and flush the toilet or turn on the faucet and say they are checking to make sure things work properly but really they are just making sure you are taking care of the apartment. Which I get but coming in constantly is annoying, inconvenient and ridiculous. Especially when they ask you to lock up your pets. So we have to lock up our pets all day for you to come in again for 10 minutes. If they really cared about the well being of the apartment complex then they would ask for tenets take on pests, condition of appliances, or the ventilation system. It feels like your a kid and your mom is checking to see if you cleaned your room. Only your not a kid and you pay to live here and be constantly annoyed. I like my apartment but management sucks. In addition to that the maintenance team sucks. If you want something done right and especially if you want it done fast then you better do it yourself or call a friend.
I gave a star for location of complex. I have a star for price of units, size and functionality of the unit. I gave a star for maintenance maintaining the building. No star for management. No star for cleanliness of building.
