Located in between Hyde Park and Downtown San Jose, Japantown is a small historic neighborhood with a bold culture. Japantown, San Jose is one of the last three Japantowns in the United States and residents here are proud of their rich heritage. Locals celebrate their vibrant roots through hosting cultural events throughout the year. Some of these events are held at the Japanese American Museum of San Jose, which features permanent and rotating exhibits, chronicling over a hundred years history.
Japantown is known for its authentic dining scene serving Japanese, Japanese-American, Indian, and Hawaiian fare. Along with delicious eateries, the neighborhood has tons of eclectic clothing stores, hip galleries, and vibrant karaoke bars. This neighborhood is home to the only year-round farmers market in the valley.
For a breath of fresh air, residents can walk or take a short drive to one of the several parks in or near the neighborhood.

Property Ratings at Metropolitan Court Apartments
I lived in this property from 2021 to 2023 and loved it. It was affordable, had a bigger than usual balcony, high ceilings and security. It provides the basics which keeps prices low. This place is in between downtown and japantown, but a quiet neighborhood. You may get the occasional unhoused person but that’s city living. The freight train does run right next to it, so while they can’t sound the horn between 10pm to 4am, you will hear the screeching of the wheels. But the apartment does have soundproof glass to help. Rodrigo, the staff, and my neighbors made this place. We looked out for each other. My only complaint is the lack of onsite amenities they should consider investing in, but you are in the middle of everything. Highways, VTA, Airport all minutes away. Pros: Affordable, Secure, Great Staff, Parking Space, Great Neighbors, Onsite Laundry, Quiet, Grass Area, Heating Units, Walk to Downtown or Japantown, VTA Station closeby, High Ceilings Cons: Freight Train, No A/C, No Pool, No Gym, No Clubhouse, No EV Chargers
I have rented from Metropolitan Court Apartments for the past two years. The experience has been nothing sort of excellent. The building is located within walking distance of San Pedro Square, Downtown San Jose and Japantown. While the property is close to the train tracks, the area is pretty quiet besides the train and has been very safe and secure. The staff at Metropolitan Court really make it a great place to live. Rodrigo is the best property manager I have met and helps whenever needed. The maintenance staff, Harry and Carmen, are always making the property look great and respond to work requests quickly. As an earlier review said, the people at Metropolitan Courts are what really make it shine. I would recommend this property 10/10 times.
We rented from Metropolitan Court from November 2019 through November 2020. Overall, the place when we moved in was Downtown San Jose for sure! But recently, so much renovation and attention to detail are currently going into this property. The property was secure and safe. We have no issues while staying here. Do note that the property is close to the railroad tracks... yes the train goes by. And yes you will hear it. Aside from that, the property is lovely. A big shout out to the cleaning, maintenance, and property manager! All of you knocked it out of the park. If not for them... this property would fall short!
We are a family with 2 years old daughter. We really enjoyed our time at Metropolitan Court. It was such a pleasant time. We got to know all of them very well. Mrs. Carmen, super nice cleaning lady, often play with my daughter. We exchanged gifts with them too. Really feel like a family. Harry the repairman delivered top-notch, next day repair. We really love our time there and getting to know all of them. In the end, it's the people that matters.
Apartment is located right next to Union Pacific tracks. Past midnight almost everyday around 1-2am, you can hear train horns, which seriously disturbs your sleep and is really really loud. This happens quite often, and even during the day as well. If you want a good nights sleep, don't choose this apartment
I have lived at the metropolitan for three years, when I first moved here Christine was the property manager on-site and we never had to worry about anything. The area was always clean, we always were able to get ahold of her if there was a problem and they are super dog friendly, that is something we love. The location of the apartment is great it’s right down the street from the sap center and close to downtown, I would recommend to go to any place that Christine is managing, it defiantly gives you peace of mind
The landlords are shady as they come. Be very weary and protect yourself in writing about when and how you are moving out. What was agreed upon verbally did not in fact end up happening. I trusted them during this process and my trust will never been given back to them after what happened.
My husband and I moved in a mouth ago,the manager made sure that everything in the apartment was working and clean and is very helpful , the housekeeping is keeping always keeping the inside and outside the building, the neighborhood is a nice and the people are friendly. We feel very comfortable living here.
This complex is in a very good location. Right next to all the freeways and in a better part of downtown. Its pretty close to Japan town so if you like sushi its a score! There is a code to get into the lobby so its safe. Units are little on the cheaper side. At least my studio is but it is a pretty large studio. 400 sqf almost and also has a huge patio. This building was converted from a storage building to apartments and in some places you can see that. Rent is pretty high but for such a good location in downtown that allow my 60lbs dog, 1475 isnt too bad.
