West Ashley sits within the city of Charleston and is west of the Ashley River, hence its name, and is the birthplace of Hootie & the Blowfish’s frontman, Darius Rucker. Lined with mossy oaks, the Ashley and Stono Rivers border West Ashley, creating the breathtaking scenery for which Charleston is known. West Ashley residents enjoy close proximity to the area's only indoor mall, the Citadel Mall, and a large number of big-box stores.
Situated seven miles due west of Downtown Charleston, residents can plan on a 15- to 30-minute drive, depending on traffic, to take in all downtown has to offer. Nearby Interstate 526, which feeds directly into Charleston’s Interstate Highway 26, gives residents a fast and easy route in and out of area. Mid- to late-1900s ranch-style homes characterize the housing in outer West Ashley, but neighborhoods built in the 2000s also sprinkle the area.

Property Ratings at Middleton Cove
Staff is the absolute worst. Extremely rude and unfriendly I have been here one day and they towed my car. Beautiful property and I like the apartment but do yourself a favor and move elsewhere. Not worth this at all. Manager is the worst of them all.
Been here nearly 8 years and love it. My apartment is the upgrade with granite. There has been a few incidents with residents but unless you live in the middle of no where this is kind of expected. No one except the people accountable can be held responsible for that. Over all I've been happy here and have great neighbors.
this apartment complex IS THE WORST!!!! they will charge you for things you didn’t even do!!!! And the apartments are SO OUTDATED. maintenance SUCKS. The office people are absolutely terrible. The neighborhood is DANGEROUS!- my apartment got broken into, when I called the office they didn’t even care they said we will send someone next week to fix what was damaged. Also someone got shot! As 2 police officers LIVE HERE! They are suppose to be the courtesy officers and do nothing! Oh and your car will most likely get broken into but office DOESNT CARE
Can you imagine the frustration an average income person should feel, to withdraw an application after paying $225 dollars ? If you dont mind being treated poorly, go for it. As long as you dont have to deal with the management for anything, you are good to go. But in case you have any small issue with anything and need the management, forget supporting they would probably insult you and kick you out. I can even being to explain what happened to me. BEWARE !!!!!!!
This place is very well kept, the maintenance team is very responsive, the complex has 2 pools. An added plus the units come with optional fire places, ice makers, washer and dryer (depending on what type of unit). I think they’re nice renovated or unrenovated. You can’t beat the price for quality, location, and safety. The landlords have always been informative and caring and have even gone out of their way for me on occasion which I’m incredibly greatful for and will make me a long time tenant for as long as I can afford (they raise your rent yearly, not sure by what percentage but this year was $40 and I have a 2b2b.) also animal friendly! Only one downfall. In my 3rd year of leasing I had some new neighbors move in above me and long story short they were so loud and disrespectful, stomping, screaming. I asked the landlords, on-site cop and it got so bad I called the actual non emergency police and nothing has been done. I guess it’s just one of those situations that they can only do so much and once they fill a unit that’s it game over no matter how much these people disturb the whole building... so just be weary ask about the type of tenants living in your building before you move.
We moved here in December from NY and it was an amazing change. We are in a two bedroom Ashley and love it. The space is ample, the screen porch is awesome and the little added bonuses of the fireplace, ice maker, great marsh views, ceiling fan and front porch make it even better. The community is peaceful for the most part, and the drive through it is very pretty. The office does their best to organize activities for everyone and it really does feel like a little town. Haven't been able to use the pools yet but they look great. Only downfalls we have experienced come from the people. We are a second floor apartment so we hear the people above us stomping around at night from time to time. Also, it's hard to enjoy the porch a lot of the time because our downstairs neighbor smokes a lot and it drifts up to us . It should DEFINITLEY be a smoke free community, with designated areas, especially since there are outdoor porches. The noise from the big highway can be really loud but we learn to tune it out. If it weren't for those things, this place would get 5 stars!
Lovely place to live for family. The views of the marsh so beautiful. My time in Charleston while living at Middleton Cove apartments, was like a vacation. Awesome staff with an awesome property manager. Very dependable maintenance that didn't hesitate to meet the demands of the residence. Should I return to Charleston, Middleton Cove would be my choice place to live. Miss you Middleton Cove
Middleton Cove apartment is located about 10 miles outside of downtown Charleston and within a 30 minute drive to all 3 main public beaches. So location is great for the area. Also the price is reasonable considering having 2 in ground pools and a 24 hour fitness center. There is also a fenced in area where your dog can be let off the leash to run around and mingle with other dogs. In the back the complex is located on the Bull Creek off of the Ashley River where there is a park to walk, a grill to cook out, a sand beach volleyball court and a tennis court. People are very friendly and it is a somewhat safe place to live. I have heard of some cars being broken into at times, but that happens everywhere! My family and I have just renewed our lease for another year. Middleton Cove feels like home!
The units themselves are a decent size but some of them could use some upgrades. The staff have all been friendly and maintenance is quick. Overall, I would recommend them for the area.
The apartment complex is older but they keep up the buildings great! I have a lovely 2 bedroom with fireplace and porch. The ladies in the office were super helpful and kind and the maintance staff is quick to get things done! 2 great pools and close to the Ashley River and 20 min from downtown Charleston!
I absolutely love my apartment at Middleton Cove. The remodeled kitchen and bathrooms are beautiful. I have always been treated very nice by the management staff. The grounds are beautifully landscaped and peaceful. I highly recommend living at Middleton Cove.
No real issues with management, or the apartment. Only real hang up is with the washer/dryers... We have a problem, EVERY time. =[
I absolutely love Middleton Cove Apartments. I moved to one of their beautiful remodeled units and it is so very nice! It's quiet, private, with beautiful grounds that are well maintained. There are two lovely swimming pools. I highly recommend!
I have been living here for 2 years and really like it. The apartments are clean and well maintained. The management shows appreciation for it's tenants by having appreciation breakfasts, lunches and it's annual catered luau pool party. This is great, with a dj, door prizes, hula hoop and limbo contests for the kids and adults.Additionally, the complex is pet friendly and also people friendly. I would definitely recommend this place for anyone looking for a nice area to live in beautiful Charleston.
Middleton Cove Charleston! Put some South in your House!
The apartments here are very nice and the amenities are great with two pools, nice tennis courts, and clean, landscaped views. The office staff can be courteous, though several are complete airheads. Sometimes you just need to explain your requests slowly and multiple times before they understand how to help. Bless their hearts. The maintenance staff are always super friendly and helpful.
I moved into Middleton Cove Apartments at the end of May 2011. It has been a great place for me to live but my living situation has changed so I will be moving soon. The service I have received from the office staff & the maintenance staff has been excellent and I have experienced some great neighbors as well. I would highly recommend Middleton Cove Apartments to any of my family and friends!! Camille
I have lived here for 4 months, and love it. The Screened in Porch is wonderful, my cat is in heaven. The apartment is spacious, and the maintenance is excellent. Last week the outside of the building was pressure-washed, something I have never seen done at any complex I have lived in and it looks wonderful. The staff is always polite and I have even called to leave a message after hours and received a prompt reply. I would recommend this community to anyone wanting a well priced apartment in West Ashley, run by great people and maintained by an excellent Maintenance Crew.
I have lived here for 9 months. I moved here for school, and I was looking for an apartment that was affordable but not sketchy either! You wouldn't believe how hard it is to find an apartment fitting those requirements down here! These apartments are clean, well taken care of, and has a nice friendly feel. I feel very safe here. It almost has a neighborhood feeling to it. Located right by the marsh, there are places to fish, two swimming pools, a place to do laundry on the property, places to grill out, etc. I LOVE the screened in porches - it's so nice to be able to leave a door open during the spring without having to worry about bugs getting in. I have had little to no trouble with noise (which is a huge pet peeve for me, so that's great!) All of my classmates live downtown to be closer to school, but I don't mind the short drive because my apartment is half the price of their apartments, twice the size, and twice as nice! I live in the smallest one bedroom there is and I have plenty of space. Anytime I have ever had a maintenance issue, no matter how small, (even just a broken towel rack) it's been fixed the NEXT DAY. This is generally a quiet property, where at any given point in time during the day people can be seen walking their dogs. I would DEFINITELY recommend this property to anyone looking for a nice, quiet, peaceful place to stay! And you can't beat the price!
My husband and I have lived here for 4 years now, and have been impressed with the property and the staff. The property has a beautiful view of the marsh. The apartments are very spacious.

We are so glad you are enjoying your residency. We hope to keep you for many more years to come.
I visited Middleton Cove and felt as though I wanted a second opinion before committing. I was given a price and assured that it would remain the same. A couple days before I visited again I called to make sure, but I was told not to worry the price that I was given would apply. When I visited (2 days later), after waiting for over an hour - then going on another tour the over worked agent! She let me know that the prices had changed and that I would need to speak with management. I spoke with the manager, who then had to speak with the owners. In the end they wouldn't stand by the price that they quoted. I'm glad that I was able to see this and their poor customer service before signing a 12 month lease. If they did this before I signed papers - who knows how it would've worsened after becoming a resident. RENTERS BEWARE

We are very sorry you did not enjoy your experience here at Middleton Cove. Our prices are subject to change. We only lock in a price once the deposit has been paid; otherwise out-dated ads could be used. The office does have a limited staff on Saturdays so we do recommend appointments on this day. We know your time is extremely valuable and we certainly respect your point of view. We wish you all the best and sincerely apologize that this was not the best experience for you. We truly do strive to make this stressful process fun and simple.
The apartment is the most spacious for the price in the market in this area. The maintenance people always come and fix any problems right away. The two pools are also kept very clean, although the gym could use an update on some of the older machines. The only downside was our neighbors who kept us up on more than one occasion, but then you will meet inconsiderate people wherever you go. Other than that, the community consists of a mixture of some families, older people and students. As long as you have considerate neighbors, you will find this place a very nice place to live in.

Have you checked out our NEW fitness center equipment lately? We just replaced the ellipticals and treadmills with new, state-of-the-art machines about a month ago :) Also, Please let us know if there is anything we can do to assist with any noise issues you may have! We're here to help. Thank you for taking the time to rate us!
The staff at Middleton Cove was so friendly and inviting. I called the office 10 min prior to arriving to take a tour and was told to come on in, no appointment was necessary, and they would be more than happy to show me around. I was greeted with smiles and hellos from everyone and even from a sweet dog hanging out in the office. The staff appeared very enthusiastic and eager to please. One of the main reasons I decided to rent from Middleton Cove was how welcome I felt when I walked in the door for the very first time.

We are so happy to hear that you had a wonderful experience! We look forward to having you at Middleton Cove! Thank you!
We've lived here for 3 yrs. and we love it! The views are great and the grounds are well kept. The staff and maintenance crews are very friendly and prompt with whatever might need to be fixed. Neighbors are friendly and it has a safe feel to living here. I'd highly recommend this apartment complex!

Don't forget, if you are a resident and you recommend us we offer $100 resident referrals if your referral rents an apartment!!! The views just got even better! Doesn't all the landscaping look fabulous!!! Thank you for taking the time to review us!
This is a great apartment, all of my neighbors are nice and friendly, I've never had any issues. The office staff are friendly and the maintenance crews are awesome! Most of the time they handle issues within a few hours. I feel safe here. I love how the apartments feel like they are tucked away from the main road (because of the trees that block the view) yet the location is perfect! Its a quick 20 min drive to downtown, 5-10 min to the malls and airport, and close to a lot of good food.

The location is pretty awesome! Thank you for your review!
This is the best place ever to live. I have lived in many apts and only stayed 2 - 3 years because they either got where the place looked run down, staff not friendly, etc. Lived here over 6 years now. This place great. Staff knows who you are, from the office staff to the maintaince workers. My life has changed so much since living here, I'm disable now and cant walk long or climb stairs,, I have a down stairs apt and can park and walk right to my door.Outside landscape is kept up and the place looks awesome. Laundry, pools, car wash , has everything you need, and best of all , so close to shopping! I plan to live here for a long time. I wish the best of luck and happiness to all the staff, Im very happy living here..

Thank you so much for your review. We are thrilled to hear you are having a nice experience at Middleton Cove.
I almost rented from a competitor down the road from this complex, who offered almost identical amenities: screened porches, pets allowed, fireplaces, etc. What made me choose Middleton Cove, hands down was how I was treated when I visited. The staff was extremely informative and patient with all of my questions. They understood and were very helpful in finding the perfect unit for my needs. Prior to my arrival, unlike the other property, I was not treated like I was bothering them when I had additional questions and they were very welcoming. That was three years ago. I still reside here and plan to for a long time. They are incredibly hospitable here, maintenance is always done in a timely matter & if they can accommodate they will ask when is it best for your schedule. They take resident feedback very seriously, and have done several enhancements to make residents feel even more welcome, such as new gym equipment, a secured leash-free dog run, & family picnic stations. Noise level to me, is not a problem and I work in a demanding field where my schedule rotates, so sleep is of the essence. I don't recall any major issues where noise was concerned. The community is safe, however there is a problem with "speed" & driving issues on the property, which management continually tries to rectify. If you are looking for a property where the scenery is beautiful, safe, lots of amenities, welcomes your pets and understands they are family as well, but most of all has an attentive property management team, then Middleton Cove is for you.

We're so glad you picked Middleton Cove as your home :) It's great to hear you are enjoying all the upgrade we've been working on this year! Thank you for the review!!!
This is the second apartment I have lived in and I love it. I just renewed my lease for another year. The pool is always kept clean with a monitor to make sure you don't get kids from local neighborhoods or anyone who is breaking the rules or being rude. There's an off leash dog run in addition to a tennis court. The complex is located right on the marsh so you can sit on your roomy screened in porch with a great view. I very rarely hear any of my neighbors. The maintenance is excellent, if I have anything that's wrong they fix it immediately and check with me to make sure I'm satisfied. Its a very close community with christmas light contests and community parties. I love it here.

So glad you are loving it here! And we're thrilled you have renewed! The pools are open now April 1 :)
I looked at several complexes before making my decision and Middleton Cove was the best buy, best location and most attractive for my money. I love all the green space and they are installing several grill stations which will add to the enjoyment of living here. The staff/maintenance is exceptional to work with and are most accommodating. One of the big selling points for me was the large private screened in porch for myself and cat to enjoy. The grounds are well groomed and the complex has a nice neighborhood feel to it. I feel safe and secure.

The grounds are beautiful. We hope you can take a walk around and see all the beautiful new marsh spaces we have opened up! Thank you for your review!
We found Middleton Cove on apartments.com in June of 2011, and moved in that July. We love it here. The maintenance staff is wonderful, and a call to the office with a problem gets someone to your apartment that very day and fixed usually the same day or next day if they need to get a part. The pools are very clean and well maintained, and they are monitored to ensure they are used by Middleton residents only, and safety rules are being followed. I feel very safe and happy there with my 4 year old. Also, very pet friendly, with a leash free dog run, and clean-up stations around the property. Every once in a while we can hear our neighbors, a dog barking, or something, but that is expected in any apartment, and most people are extremely respectful. Middleton Cove is very clean, and well maintained, with updates coming constantly. We love it!

I enjoy living in this apartment complex. When I moved in, my apartment was very clean and everything worked well. The office staff is always friendly and willing to help, and if you have any problems they are very quick to help! I would recommend looking at this complex if you are considering a place in West Ashley!

Thanks Meg! Look for all the fun stuff going on in March as it is Resident Appreication month and we want to show all of you how thankful we are to have you!!!
I've only lived here in Middleton Cove for about 5 months and I love it! I love how quiet it is and I love my view. I have a marsh view and it's perfect. The staff here are very polite and helpful. Did I mention that the water is included??!! That was one of the things that I loved the most since water prices always changes. Overall, I'm happy I chose this place.
Property Manager at Middleton Cove, Responded To This Review
Thanks for reviewing us! It is pretty great that we include the water. A lot of the properties near by don't do so anymore! We're glad to hear you are enjoying your stay :)
This is a cheap place to live in a fantastic location. Of course, you get what you pay for... walls & floors that are paper thin so you can hear every word your neighbors next to, above & below you say... whether you want to or not. You can also smell everything they cook and smoke and this complex is home to a ton of smokers. Repairs are usually done very quickly, which is nice and all of the maintenance people are very nice. Sometimes the repairs are not the most beautiful, but again, this is a cheap place to live.
