From its education-centered atmosphere to its strong emphasis on physical recreation, the Cromwell and Middletown area focuses on family. The area combines the lively entertainment of a college town with the quiet peacefulness of suburban living, creating an ideal compromise for students transitioning to professional life.
These neighboring towns lie roughly 14 miles south of Hartford in northwestern Middlesex County, giving residents daily glimpses of the stunning Connecticut River and the nearby forestland. Ongoing development efforts enrich the commercial offerings in the area, while charming downtown greens and historic districts preserve the classic New England layout.

Property Ratings at Middletown Brooke Apartments
It was a good place to live but a little expensive. I like the closeness to surrounding area and the environment of the complex. Nice place to walk and run.
Very nice office staff and apartment complex is near a lot. Only real downside is their isn't a microwave in the apartment but overall it's a nice place to live.
I like the area. People don’t pick up their dog poop though. The apartment itself is cozy but they need to change the floor plan on the website.
I wish I could leave zero stars. The units are old and not well maintained. The floor is warped. Paint is chipping. There are huge gaps in the floor in the paneling. The tubs are creaking. It sounds and feels like you’re going to fall through the floor. For the exorbitant price in nonexistent amenities this property is highly overpriced. The maintenance team is friendly and responsive, but other than that moving here was a total disaster. I’m currently trying to see what I can do to get out of my lease.
Maintenance is the shining star of this place. Rent keeps increasing even though there’s been no upgrades to our amenities or living space at all. Communication with office staff and leasing office needs improvement. What we live in and what we have access to does not come close to what we pay each month.
Overall, I had a positive experience at the property. The pet park is really nice—well-maintained and spacious, making it a great spot for dogs to play and socialize. I also appreciated how clean and tidy the common areas are; it shows that the management takes pride in the community. In terms of service, I found it to be efficient and responsive, which made my interactions smooth and hassle-free. However, I do think the rent is on the higher side.
Leandra was very helpful & made our moving in process so much easier/comfortable! Everyone seems so nice here whether it’s with a smile or a simple hello. Definitely would recommend to anyone else looking for a place to live!
Lovely living space , calm and quiet area and very kind staff . Love it ! Amenities are awesome and lots of parking space . Lots of close by stores , very convenient!
Nice place to walk around and get a snack inside the club house. Maintenance people are nice and helpful when we needed a new toilet. Parking is good and never a problem.
Very happy with living here they were very welcoming. I have NEVER had any issues here which is refreshing as opposed to an old landlord in newington who was terrible previously.
I’ve lived in Middletown Brooke for 2 years now and the complex is nice, fairly clean and safe. The gym is small, but convenient and the pool is very nice in the summer. People in the leasing office have been attentive and helpful. There’s been some changes in the office since my first year and I can tell more attentive people are in charge than before. The leasing office is going through renovations right now so no one is in the office at the moment. They’re down the street, but they still are very friendly and helpful. I’d recommend in person visit than email. That seems to get the job done quicker.
Overall has been a pretty good experience. I have lived here almost 6 months and still never got a FOB for the gym since they were out of stock. Maintenance people are very nice but seem to band aid problems versus completely fix. I have done several fixes myself after they were fixed by maintenance.
I have absolutely loved living here! Every person I've met has been so welcoming and sweet! I'm truly grateful for this special community! Thanks!
Relatively short commute from my work. Feels safer since not right up on a big and busy road like Washington street. The con is my deck is facing outside to the road which can still get noisy.
We just moved in to a 2 bedroom 2 bath here this week and so far we love it! After we set everything up we are definitely never going to want to leave.
This has been a great experience thus far. I don’t have any issues often, but when I have, maintenance has always responded in a very timely manor. Even though you have neighbors, I’ve always felt I have great privacy. I would definitely recommend.
Any issue that I have is resolved immediately and maintenance is great I can put it a request and get it fixed same day and inform you step by step what they did which I enjoy
Relatively safe and quiet community. Pros and cons. Maintenance has been more responsive than ever. Landscaping needs improvement - hedges are overgrown around the complex. It seems as though they have not been trimmed all Summer. Attracting insects and small animals to the larger shrubs that aren't being cared for. Pool has also been dirtier than ever before. It's like when one thing vastly improves another vastly declines. For what we pay, it would be nice for all things to be consistent.
Dog park and pool are great! Very quiet neighborhood. Friendly staff. Apartment is In good shoe and maintenance is very helpful. A good place to live.
Apt complex is alright, rent is crazy high for the size. They do a nice job of keeping the grounds clean though. Having the community grills to use is also a plus.
My experience with the Middletown Brooke apartments was wonderful :) Miychelle and the front office staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. If you have a question or concern, they will get back to you asap. Al and the maintenance team are top tier. They go above and beyond to find a solution if you have a problem. When our AC overheated they were in constant communication about getting it fixed. When repairs are made they’re so speedy as well.
The staff at Town Brooke have been SO nice and very helpful during my recent move! The landscaping and community is very pretty and well maintained, and everyone living here has been friendly and respectful. Overall, very positive experience!
Great apartment. Still have yet to receive my key fob to the community pool and activities. However everything else seems good. Maintenance is quick to respond however my issue was never resolved.
Great community. Close to highway and shopping. Great area to walk. Staff and maintenance are great Safe place to live Neighbors are very friendly
I’ve lived here since June 2023. I was so surprised to see negative reviews! I believe the property is under new management as of recently. The office staff are attentive and friendly and the maintenance staff are quick to rectify work orders (haven’t had any major maintenance issues, just small repairs upon moving in). Sure, the units aren’t modern, but mine has been maintained nicely. In the summer months, the pool is well kept and a great feature to take advantage of. Plenty of young families and friendly folks with dogs. Overall, I would recommend these apartments to anyone who is looking for a mildly priced, simply designed, centrally located unit.
We've had an excellent experience living here the past several years, it's generally pretty quiet and the rent cost is manageable, which is not true of many other properties in the area.
Complex is becoming disgusting. The trash is overflowing every Monday morning. I've observed rats running around it on multiple occasions. There's also a dead rat in my breezeway, which floods in every rain storm.
Central location. Well lit, ample parking. Fast service when needed. Easy access to the walking path. Both Cromwell and Middletown are nearby and filled with stores and activities. Great place.
Rent is high. Managers and office staff rarely answer phone or email. However maintenance is very fast at responding and getting an order fulfilled. The pool is very nice. No major complaints about apartment itself.
Maintenance was nearly nonexistent. Management staff were very rude and didn’t want to be bothered with any type of support.
A great place to live. Neat and clean! Been here for 6 years. I bought and apartment to live in the same area. Ended up renting that apartment out and stayed in these apartments.
Fire alarms literally within a few feet from gas stone so it’s way too sensitive. Not renovated. Great neighbors. Love the pool. Gym is too small.
Horrible staff, poorly maintained older building. Maintenance request get forgotten about and office staff never responds to voicemail or emails. They will be fantastic until you sign and move it.
Great location, convenient near-by bike trail, pet-friendly, pool, fitness center, laundry in-unit and good maintenance team. The apartment is not the best at holding in heat/A/C and there's plenty of dogcrap in the parking lot.
The manager at the facility made the stay hell. Extremely unprofessional and rude. Problems did not get fixed ontime and the rent increase next year was ridiculous.
Clean apartments. Well-kept landscaping. Prompt service on maintenance calls. Beautiful views. Easy access to the walking trail. Dog park. Pool.
The apartments are poorly maintained. Updates are very much needed. The grounds has a great dog park and beautiful flowing trees in spring but again very poorly maintained overall.
Hasn’t responded to emails since I moved in. If you need them you must go to office. If they give you an apartment along east street, all you here is cars all day long
After reporting a leak in the ceiling 4 times and it ruining my bed I was told I was lying about it. Not to mention not having cold running water the whole 12 months of living there. Ac didn’t work and on the third floor that isn’t very fun. Horrible experience.
I've lived in a few apartments and overall Middletown Brooke has been great. The apartments are a great size. Maintenance has always been awesome. So far, the new management seems good too!
Not worth the rent given how difficult they make it to live here. On multiple occasions, the staff has ignored blatant safety issues. For instance, a worker in the leasing office told my wife that a gas leak (eventually confirmed) was "not her problem". Around the time a fugitive was being harbored below us, all the hall lights stopped working. Staff was slow to respond and apathetic. At this point, I could write a whole book about the problems we've had here.
We got corporate to break our lease after 8 months because the awful attitude of the on property staff. Maintenance is non existent and negligent. Don't live here if you value anything at all
It would be a lie if I said these were the nicest apartments I’ve lived in, but the location cannot be beat! The apartments are old and need a little bit of TLC. BUT I will say that any issue I have had, since the new management staff take over, has been fantastic! Cenobia (not sure if I spelled correctly) is always a friendly face and eager to help. Cenobia is a gem and Middletown Brooke is lucky to have her as the property manager. The maintenance team onsite has been wonderful since the hire of the New Maintenance Manager Roy Started as well! They are quick to help whenever there is an issue. They also respond much better than in the past. all around the place seems to be turning around I'm so happy for all the changes.
Went to look at apartment for rent today. Is a very clean place u can see the grounds being kept clean from trash the staff was so nice an courteous and polite, they offered me coffee and snacks as soon as I entered their office. I also Got to see the nice dog park they have with people playing with they dogs which is a great thing to have because I have a dog!! I really like the apartment so I think I'm moving in!!
Like all the other reviews say, it takes an unacceptably long time to get a response to any maintenance issue. Our AC has been broken for around a month and I'm still waiting for it to be fixed. I had a maintenance technician in my apartment last week for an unrelated issue (that also took FOREVER to get fixed), and he said that, for some reason, a week and a half after the contractor said I need a new AC, nobody had ever ordered one. He then promised he would and I would have an update by Friday. It's been a week of me emailing daily, and I still have no update on if the AC has been ordered or if it will ever even be fixed. We have other maintenance issues that have just never been talked about (a broken cabinet drawer that we put a request in for MONTHS ago), or some that they basically just told us to deal with. One example is there are staples sticking up (the pointy ends) where the carpet meets the laminate. The person that looked at it told me to just bang them in with a hammer. How is that an acceptable response? They half fix things or just never get back to you about them. This is a terribly managed apartment complex, and I recommend you take your money elsewhere.
It's all sunshine and flowers prior to signing your lease, but don't expect to get calls returned or maintenance issues resolved in an reasonable amount of time. Expect to have to leave messages for months just to have the property manager say "I've been too busy to return your call", after 5 months. Maintenance work is shoddy at best when you can even get them to come. Somehow they can't even keep the pool clean for more than a few days at a time. Save yourself the headache and spend a little more elsewhere.
Horrendous management, unresponsive maintenance, truly unsafe living environments. Please, save yourself and find somewhere else!
Incredibly loud on a daily basis. They do loud landscaping work all day Monday through Friday. Normally wouldn’t be a big deal but many are working from home and it makes it near impossible to focus or participate in meetings. Their only goal is to attract new people off street view, zero cares if they disrupt their current residents. Don’t live here
They make you pay the rent online, but there's a fee for doing so through their payment site. The complex itself is OK. I've had leaks in my apartment about 3 times since I moved in a few months ago. I called maintenance as soon as it was happening and they showed up the following day, when the leaks had already stopped, and commented that they couldn't find anything. If they'd shown up when I reported it, they would have been able to solve the issue. Management is also not the best. They're very nice and attentive before you move in, and after moving in they're very off-putting and kind of rude.
Our air conditioning stopped working sometime around March/April of this year. We promptly filed a work order, and the response we received from management was something along the lines of "we will fix it later when it starts getting hot out." Now, i am very sensitive to heat, and i often break out in a sweat at temperatures as low as 75° Fahrenheit, so i immediately knew that this delay would be a problem for me. We pestered management about this until they finally sent out a repair team to "fix" the issue sometime in April, but their "fix" broke after only a few days. We continued putting pressure on them to fix our air conditioning, but they kept on sending their own incompetent repair men who would always misdiagnose the issue, and nothing got fixed. Sometime around late May, they finally decided to hire a professional HVAC person to diagnose the problem, and he quickly concluded that the ancient condenser unit was broken and in need of replacement. Management's "solution" to this problem was to plop a temporary unit in our apartment and call it a day. Unfortunately, the temporary unit they gave us is barely powerful enough to cool the room it's in, and even using the apartment's built-in air circulation system in conjunction with a bunch of box fans to move the air around the apartment doesn't seem to help much. Even worse for me is that the only place where there was enough space to put the temporary unit was in my dad's bedroom, which is located on the opposite side of the apartment from mine. This means that my room doesn't receive any of the cool air from the air conditioner on the other side of the apartment. So here we are in late June, over three months after we reported that there was an issue with our air conditioning. Managment seems to think that the temporary unit is good enough, as they have started ignoring our weekly requests to have our central air properly repaired. Meanwhile, the temperature in my bedroom frequently reaches 80°, and we haven't even reached the hottest days of summer yet. All of this could have been avoided if management had acted promptly when we first reported the issue instead of dragging their feet until it was too late. We have always known that the management was bad, but in the last few months they have really exceeded our expectations of how bad a managment company could possibly be. Needless to say, we will not be signing another lease and are looking to move out as soon as possible.
