Property Ratings at Mikado Apartments, Mid-Century Japanese
Sunny is the most responsive, most considerate, easy to talk to, and nicest property manager that my wife and I have ever had the pleasure of renting from. The property itself is cute and spacious and chic and we fit in there for almost ten years. We only moved because we needed more space for a baby and there were not 2 bedroom units available. The area is very cool and iconic and within walking distance of a lot of fun places including the Hollywood Bowl, the Hollywood Reservoir, the Dolby, the Ovation Mall, the Magic Castle, and a lot of other things. It's very central, so a relatively quick drive to both the East and West side of the city. The neighborhood is full of great people. We loved living there and I would recommend it to anyone considering it.
Lived in LA for four years and at Mikado Apartments for a little under a year in 2022-2023. I have nothing but glowing things to say about the building, the area, and especially the management. I toured dozens of places during my apartment hunt and this was far and away the best value. From the second I toured the place, it felt like a no brainer: You have air conditioning, laundry on-site, off-street parking (massive benefit in Hollywood), access to a private swimming pool, high vaulted ceilings which make the units feel super spacious, and you're a short walk away from some of Hollywood's biggest attractions (Literally right across the street from the Hollywood Bowl!) But even with that in mind, the building was QUIET. Incredibly so for Los Angeles, but especially so for Hollywood. The building is like an oasis. The neighbors are all friendly, quiet, and respectful, but it also feels like a community. I also never saw a single pest in my unit during my time there, I never had any issues with the utilities, and the owner and owners/management are genuinely lovely people. This is not a building that is owned by some massive portfolio company who neglect their tenants and treat you like a number. This building is a family operation, and they clearly take immense pride in keeping the building well-maintained and taking good care of their tenants. They are always reachable and responsive, and even when I had to break my lease early, they went out of their way to accommodate me and help me out. Truth be told, I was incredibly sad to have to leave this building, but I lived there during a slow time for the entertainment business and work took me elsewhere. It genuinely felt like a home, and if given the opportunity I would move back in a heartbeat.
I lived at No22 for 2 years, loved every minute of it, the management are attentive & I would def move back there if work too me back to Hollywood, nothing negative to say, would def recommend !! :)
Inquired about two apartments. Everyone except the owner (who was very pleasant) seemed agitated that I was calling with interest in renting from their establishment. Definitely turned me off. Hopefully their tenants don't experience this.
Property Manager at Mikado Apartments, Mid-Century Japanese, Responded To This Review
Sorry about you made to feel weird? You inquired about two apartments, but we only have one to show. Agitated, hmmm, I must of been hungry. So Sorry about that! Good luck in your search.
After looking at so many examples of the same, sterile version of a 1 BR apartment, we were blown away by how charming and unique Mikado Apartments looked and felt. And then we met the landlord... This is not just a place to live in until you find something better. This is a home. This is a place you can return to each day and really feel like you're coming home. Sure - you get a central location that allows you to explore all of LA in equal measure. And you can walk to the Hollywood Bowl, the Hollywood Reservoir, and Hollywood Blvd whenever you feel like it. You really are in the mix here. But on those days when you need a break from it all - when you need to rest and recover - you'll be glad you call this place your home. You get a pool. You get a parking spot. But most of all, you get a welcoming, attentive landlord who looks out for you and takes care of the property. Years later, we feel incredibly lucky we even saw this listing when we did. You will too when you inevitably choose to live here.
This is my first and only apt in LA. Rent controlled, wildly convenient location (at least for me), and very attentive and diligent Managment. While they aren’t the most up to date apartments, they are in excellent shape and management is always here to take care of any issue that may arise with incredible alacrity. All come with a covered parking spot. And the size of the one bedrooms is above any others in the area. The only downside is the thin walls, but that’s fairly common and the lack of walkability. Granted the Hollywood Bowl is the closest walk, so if you frequent events at the Bowl, this is your spot. Highly recommend living here, so would the many other tenants who have lived here for many many years.
I love my landlord. She's such a hard worker. And she's so attentive. I've lived here for almost 15 years now. It's always clean because she's always cleaning. All the beautiful plants that she attends to so diligently, flourish under her loving care. The building is very unique and charming. I love walking through the lobby, that leads to the pool, at night. I've stood looking over the pool on a moonlit night for over half an hour, at various times, just spacing out, thinking "I love it here."
