Located in between Hyde Park and Downtown San Jose, Japantown is a small historic neighborhood with a bold culture. Japantown, San Jose is one of the last three Japantowns in the United States and residents here are proud of their rich heritage. Locals celebrate their vibrant roots through hosting cultural events throughout the year. Some of these events are held at the Japanese American Museum of San Jose, which features permanent and rotating exhibits, chronicling over a hundred years history.
Japantown is known for its authentic dining scene serving Japanese, Japanese-American, Indian, and Hawaiian fare. Along with delicious eateries, the neighborhood has tons of eclectic clothing stores, hip galleries, and vibrant karaoke bars. This neighborhood is home to the only year-round farmers market in the valley.
For a breath of fresh air, residents can walk or take a short drive to one of the several parks in or near the neighborhood.

Property Ratings at Mio
Banning ring doorbells now while cars keep getting broken into and there are homeless people sneaking in to case apartments? Absolutely horrible management completely disconnected with tenants.
Lack of security, terrible management and horrendous move-out fees. Self-guided tours made me uncomfortable with many people wandering around. Not to mention tacky marketing / self guided tour signage everywhere. No management on site and lack of cameras led to an easy target for theft and vandalism. We had other teenage residents harassing us (for no apparent reason) and knocking on our doors at all hours. Even with specific details, Mio replied with a robotic message 'that they were doing their best to take care of it.' Gates are always broken. There was no communication when there was a fire alarm issue that lasted 2-3 weeks. There was a period of 3 weeks where I had to be home or come home to secure my animal because of something of that nature. The one positive thing is that its a small community with decent units and large kitchens. Maintenance was good but went downhill toward the end. Thankfully, there were not too many maintenance issues inside* the unit since it is a fairly new building. The negatives do not make it worth it. Run.
Mio used to be marketed as luxury apartments. It’s far from that now. The place is dirty. There is trash overflowing the garbage areas. Common areas and outside are littered with trash as well. Nobody who works for Essex is ever onsite. They also rarely answer emails or return phone calls. The lack of oversight has accelerated the amount of crime that plagues Mio. The garage has multiple cars with who have had their windows smashed in while parked in the “secure” garage. Package theft is incredibly common as well. Mio doesn’t try to put in new measures to prevent these things and usually puts it back on the renters. I would avoid Mio and any Essex properties as this seems to be a trend based on their other property reviews.
Place has gone completely downhill since they got rid of the on-site leasing agents/managers. Trash piling up in the trash chute rooms, loud people on cell phones on their deck and screaming children running around floors. Thieves just walking and stealing packages from doorsteps in the middle of the day. Look elsewhere till Essex gets this place under control.
My son and husband have been in our new apartment for almost 3 months now. All of us love our new apartment, with new appliances, new bathroom, and we love the floor plan of our unit. We love the new flooring in our living room and kitchen. We have a wider kitchen that gives more room for food preparation and cooking. Our new washer and dyer are new models as well as the dish washer. I love the color scheme of our flooring and kitchen cabinets which matches our furniture. The balcony have enough space for our plants. The new Jacuzzi area that have barbeque grills and also the play areas are just fun to hang around. The gym and entertainment area are very nicely interior as well as the business center. Parking is great lots of extra parking for guests. Of course the roof deck, we went there to watch the July 4th fireworks and it was fantastic view, my entire family enjoyed their visit. Dog park is great area for our dog, he loves to walk around on the beautiful landscaping, with the trees and plants, just perfect for strolling. Mostly we love all what we see. From the hallways, mailroom, reception area, elevators and all that's inside the building are well maintained and security is always efficient. Our office manager and staff have great personalities and have very good service. I am hesitant to mention but, though the rent maybe high it's because of all of the amenities, good maintenance and service. We just hope our rent will not get too high in the coming years, as we intend to stay longer, as it is convenient for my son close to his school which he can walk and take the bus and convenient with short walk to restaurants. Hopefully we will be able to afford the rent as it is very hard to find a place like this. We just love it here. It's classy exterior and interior design have excellent taste. We love Mio Japan Town apartments. It's great to live here and we feel home every time we go home.
