South Square is southwest of Downtown Durham, roughly halfway to Chapel Hill and about two miles south of Duke University. Many shopping centers line the streets, attracting consumers from all over the Triangle region. Movie theaters, bowling alleys, restaurants, dozens of large retail stores and small specialty shops provide a variety of options for ways to spend a day off.
In addition to commercial spaces, South Square provides a variety of housing, from tree-lined streets with single-family homes to modern apartment buildings and spacious townhomes. With easy access to Highway 501 and Durham-Chapel Hill Boulevard, commuting to either Durham or Chapel Hill is a breeze. Golfers appreciate the nearby Hope Valley Country Club, while nature lovers appreciate Duke Forest, a few minutes north of the neighborhood. The forest is home to the unique Duke Lemur Center, the world's largest lemur center.

Property Ratings at Mission University Pines
It's a wonderful, beautiful community. The leading agents i dealt with were helpful... and most importantly... friendly!
Maintenance is very slow in addressing issues. I understand it is a large community so I can be patient in this area. I still have a drawer that needs fixing it has been a month now.
I would recommend it but with a few warnings. The walls are extremely thin and people in the buildings seem to not care about noise.
Amy is awesome !! I couldn?t be happier with my experience from initial meeting to moving in! She provided great customer service and really made me feel at home! Overall I had a fantastic experience with all of the management staff at mission. But I want to make sure I highlighted Amy?s role!
The interaction with Amy was great! She was nice, funny, and knowledgeable. She was very helpful and understanding with my situation.

Helped me secure an apartment long-distance. I was relocating. When I got here I was amazed! I love it here!
The community is quite with mostly friendly neighbors, the staff is helpful and kind. The one thing I would suggest fixing is the amount of spiders and standing water when it rains.
Won?t be renting at this time due to availability of required space and move-in costs.
This complex was great for what I needed at the time, great location, relatively cheap rent for the size of the apartment, etc. however at the time I was a graduate student with little income.
I am new to the community and so far I like it a lot. The staff is very friendly & the area is beautiful. I do think there could be some improvements made with regard to communicating with staff about issues. After I moved in & noticed several repairs were needed, so I dropped off requests at the front desk. Then after the weekend I called on Monday to get a status update, but Jeanetta said she hadn?t heard anything yet but that she would give them my requests personally. I called once more a couple days later and left messages at the front desk regarding these repairs, but it wasn?t until I filed a request online several days later afterwards that anything was dealt with. It is very difficult to reach the staff at the front desk via phone (this is during regular office hours) and often I am transferred to an answering service, whose representatives encourage me to call the front office again but select option for leasing with automated system instead of asking for maintenance. This is disconcerting because that implies the company who manages the apartment community is aware of the issue but is simply not planning on addressing the fact that more staff are needed at the office. When I do reach the front office the people, especially Amy & Jeanetta, are extremely kind & helpful- it?s just hard to get ahold of a human being over the phone. If the issue of communication could be resolved I would highly recommend this community to family & friends. But as it is, my refrigerator has been running at full power for 3 weeks since I moved in because of a broken seal, so I am frustrated knowing the issue could have been resolved sooner and I would not have to pay so much on my next power bill if only someone would have let maintenance known there was a problem or if maintenance would have followed through on the messages given to them. I?m not sure where the communication breakdown is occurring, but it?s an issue I feel I have to be wary of in the future.
I thank God for this apartment as it fits my needs, and very comfortable. Quiet neighbors and staff.
Amazing place to live! Quiet, clean, and safe community. Also, In my opinion, this is a great value in terms of rent and amenities.
I would recommend based on the customer service we received from the management personnel and the cleanliness of the grounds and apartment viewed. The facility was well worth the monthly rental charge.
This is an amazing place to live, with very nice and professional employees. I believe my family and friends would love and appreciate the same qualities I experienced overall.

Everything was good until I was going to lease. I been having a hard time getting a hold of them to fix my lease. Still waiting on my new lease
I would recommend the community because it's safe here and a great place to stay. The office and maintenance staff are AMAZING! My apartment is very spacious.

I've ran into people at work who are looking for apartments and I've put the word in about this place!
I would recommend the property based on locality and community amenities. This is a great place for access to shopping, leisure, and activity.
High management turnover. ridiculous rent increases ($100 at a time) by new management. Management takes forever to fix anything and then does it wrong. Roaches even if you are the cleanest person on earth. Useful office staff who gives you the run around. You have to threaten to get attorneys involved to get any help. If you want piece of mind, don't rent here.
The location of the apartments are great. Every store is within walking or short drive distance. The office staff is wonderful, especially Rachel. The neighborhood is quiet. I feel safe to walk around and be outside. There's two pools so they're never packed. The apartment I have is a great size for my family.
MUP is ok. I have been here for over 5 years and been through several management companies and teams. Usually the group up front is ok and mostly friendly. Property managers and assistants not so much. Maintenance however is the worst. It can take months for basic fixes and even then the work is poor. I have noticed a few hiring and firings recently, and hopefully the last of the old bunch will be gone soon. The apartment it self is not bad. I have no windows in the main living space, just a patio door. The cabinetry and appliances are dated and somehow I don't see any sprinklers or fire extinguishers in these all wood buildings.?? I have no choice on the valet trash ( after taking it myself for 5 years) plus another trash fee for the dumpsters and a meter reading fee. The online resident portal SUCKS! I currently have to spend like $200 to fix a major appliance due to maintenance negligence. I could go on but I think you get it. It is not completely horrible, but not recommended for long stays. The only reason I have stayed is because of its proximity to places I frequent, and I have lots of stuff in here. This will be my last lease here.
