Savage-Guilford is a peaceful neighborhood 18 miles south of Baltimore and 25 miles north of Washington, DC between Interstate 95 and Highway 1. Thanks to its ideal location and great amenities, the area attracts commuters and families. Renters will find an array of moderately priced apartments and townhomes that make up the rental scene. Within town, the Middle Patuxent River and Stone Lake provide renters with a variety of water sports as well as parks and trails to explore. Shops and restaurants are scattered throughout the area, but the Historic Savage Mill, a restored cotton mill turned into a trendy shopping mall, is a favorite spot for shopping and dining. Property Ratings at Monarch Mills Apartments
Since the new management took over the Monarch Mills Apartment Community, the property has gone downhill tremendously. Trash is piled up at the dumpster and thrown around the grounds, including trash bags left in stairways and corridors. The community wreaks of marijuana, cigarettes, and booming music day and night. Loitering and screaming are continuous issues and the gun shots and theft are real safety concerns here. I've even had my child stalked by a car moving slowly next to him while he walked on the sidewalk. These security complaints fall on deaf ears to management personnel who simply tell tenants to call the police because they do not care to handle situations they've created by allowing such tenants to continue to live in this community and by not employing security. Nor do they want to manage the property and enforce its guidelines, for which they are employed to do since this is a smoke-free and no loitering and littering community. The manager even refuses to see her tenants, take or return their phone calls, or reply to emails. Monarch Mills was a nice community until the new management took over and now it is one of the worse places I, and others tenets, have lived at. Many people have moved out or are planning on moving, and we are planning to do the same.
I think its pretty sad that the only interaction I had was a phone call to setup a tour and after a conversation with a very non-challant woman, I immediately cancelled this community from my list. Customer service goes a long way. Plus a leasing office that is only open from Mon - Fri till 5pm and not at all on weekends just will not do. The average person is at work during those hours, so you would basically need to take time off to speak to someone? No bueno!
I don't usually write reviews, but I felt I should after seeing some of them on this site. I LOVE living at Monarch Mills. The grounds are lovely, the staff friendly, helpful, polite, and professional, and the apartments are great! Over the 16 months I've been here, I haven't had a problem that wasn't immediately attended to, nor a concern that wasn't addressed. The apartment is well laid out and well-lit, and I have plenty of closet and storage space. I even have my dog with me. Having lived elsewhere the past few years, I can say moving here was one of the best decisions of my life because the management company and the staff are much easier to deal with and the apartment is much nicer!
There's a never ending rotation of rental office staff who never know anything. Mistake eviction notices 3 times since I've lived here and the walls are paper thin. Absolutely not worth the money !!!
Since I've moved in there's been a never ending rotation of staff who always direct you to someone who's on vacation. How the person you need to talk to is always on vacation is beyond me. On 3 separate occasions I've had eviction notices that were mistakes. Putting an eviction notice at the bottom of the steps for all to see by mistake is unacceptable. The walls are paper thin. I've had water from upstairs come into my apt on multiple occasions. Also the light has recently been loosened on my ceiling due to the stomping of my upstairs neighbors kids. PLEASE DONT BE FOOLED !!!! Save your money !
The two bedroom two/two bath apartments have plenty of living space. There are plenty of windows for natural lighting. All appliances of the appliances are new, there is central air with a very programmable thermostat for those that enjoy tinkering with settings. There is plenty of space for parking. There is only one garbage dumpster, so it gets pretty full in the period before the empty it. The apartment complex is adjacent to a school, so you can occasionally hear kids during the day. Otherwise it's generally pretty quite, most people keeping to themselves. Convenient Location is five minutes away from a Wegmans, near several shopping plazas and right in between DC and Baltimore. There is not much of a "nightlife" in Columbia, however there are several decent bars and restaurants within 10-15 minutes. The staff in the office have always been friendly and helpful. The one time I needed to put in a trouble ticket for a repair, the staff came the next business day and fixed the issue.
My apt was spotless when I moved on. Any problems I've had (which were minor) were taken care of immediately. I appreciate having a washer and dryer in my apt, so I won't have to worry about having quarters and sharing the appliances with others who don't use the same detergent I do. Every room is very spacious. I have a one bedroom apt, and it could comfortably fit two people. I am also in love with my kitchen. I am a big fan of the granite countertops. The hardwood floors in the kitchen and in the hallway are a big plus as well. I love the neighborhood. It's quiet and peaceful.mall of my neighbors are very friendly, and always speak whenever we walk by each other. I love the leasing office and all of the activities it entails. The fitness center is always neat, and available. I also appreciate the business center. I do not have a computer, so when I need to use one the business center is very convenient.
