Property Ratings at Montclair Duplex Apartments
This property does not even deserve the 1 star I provided. When I moved into the property, I discovered holes under the bathroom sink, in my bedroom closet, and in the washer/dryer area. They sent a maintenance man out to fix it but he did not completely patch the holes so they are still there. They have never completely fixed anything. They just patch things up a little. The property manager comes off as friendly in the beginning but once you call about any issues, she becomes easily annoyed and extremely rude!
They are scam artists. They allow you to be harass by your junkie neigbors. No matter how clean you leave the apartment when you move out they will still send an invoice saying the apartment wasn’t clean (Thank goodness for pictures).
While I’ve only recently moved in I have nothing but great things to say. The neighborhood is very quiet. Everyone keeps to themselves which can be a good or bad thing. Private drive-way parking spot is awesome as well especially being in philly. In fact it doesn’t even feel like philly, but some suburb out in the Mid-west. The staff really made the whole process very seamless. From inquiry to move in date, I believe it was less than 2 weeks. So, everything is good thus far and I hope it stays this way.
This place will STEAL your money. Your security deposit goes towards the cleaning of the unit for the next tenant no matter how clean you leave it. My unit was left in better condition than when I moved in, I took pictures of EVERYTHING when I left and they still have the audacity to take my hard earned money. Proceed with caution. Don't expect your security deposit back. You might as well trash the place when you leave, make them at least earn their money
I have been here for over 2 years and the response to issues and complaints is very lacking. They need private company to clear snow (not your sidewalk or driveway just street) which is horrible. I went without A/C for almost 4 days during summer because they do everything to cut corners as to not replace anything. My dryer takes 2 hours to dry clothes and they say its fine. I wish I would have known this prior to moving in and can't wait to get somewhere that values the rent I pay.
I will say, in their favor, that maintenance comes quickly. When I first moved in, the dryer was broken and there was a very minor gas leak. They fixed this, and each time I called for an issue, they came out that day to fix it. The problem is that half the time, nothing was ever really fixed. I have had an ongoing maintenance issue. I called in about six or seven maintenance requests, and each time, they came in and "fixed" something, but it always came back. They brought a specialist in, who gave two suggestions, none of which they took, and then they basically left us to our own devices. Last month, I got a letter saying they wouldn't renew my lease, probably because I wasn't happy that they've continued to act like I've maliciously broken things in the apartment (it would take more effort for me to cause the sort of problem that I have than it would for them to fix it). I think I annoyed them by wanting the stuff in my living space fixed (how terrible of me). Basically, this apartment is nonsense, the office is full of people who have a very basic understanding of the way things work (had to explain several times what an independent contractor was when I was signing my lease), and they excuse everything by saying "the building is old," even though it was built in the 70s, and is therefore not really all THAT old, especially for Philly. Also, the cabinet space in the kitchen is mediocre, there is no pantry, and our sink doesn't have a sprayer, which is a bigger pain than you might think. Only pluses: It's close to regional rail, it has a full size (and mostly functional) washer/dryer, I have great neighbors, and Pennypack Park is in walking distance.
Maintenance is awful, they never truly fix anything. Air conditioning, refrigerator, washing machine and stove are alway breaking. Windows leak every time it rains. The office is useless, the soundproofing is non existent, you can hear through the floors/ceiling and the walls. I current have no air conditioning in mid July with 2 little boys.
I've lived in the Montclair Apartments for almost 5 years now and love it! The neighborhood is quiet and the apartments are very spacious. Close to downtown Philadelphia and the surrounding suburbs. I highly recommend this apartment!
