For over half a century, Huntsville has been associated with the development and testing of rockets for space exploration. This idyllic community in the Appalachian foothills of northern Alabama is a powerhouse of high-tech innovation for both civilian and military applications, with Redstone Arsenal, Cummings Research Park, and NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center driving the local economy. Living in the Huntsville area, you are likely to hear sounds from helicopters and rocket engines on a fairly regular basis.
The city’s intellectual values extend into the local schools as well, which are among the best in the state. But even though the city is home to such a large and unique scientific community, Huntsville retains a timeless atmosphere of Southern charm. Beautiful historic architecture is all around, especially in the Twickenham and Old Town Historic Districts.
Huntsville offers an array of apartments and houses available for rent in every style and budget imaginable.

Property Ratings at Monte Sano Terrace
I’m a current resident. I moved in last year and everything was great. Mold, roaches, spiders, barely get pest control. Just a horrible apartment to live in.
Property Manager at Monte Sano Terrace, Responded To This Review
We are saddened to hear that your experience is not as positive as it once was! We encourage you to contact our office so we can get your stay back on track. Our property has pest control and a termite contract with a local company. Thank you and we hope to hear from you soon."
I have lived here a year and love it! Yes it is an older apartment complex but well kept up the maintenance team are quick to respond and are friendly and caring. Very quiet and close to everything, down town the mall and my work. I love the hiking trails and the view. The drive up to this place is amazing I feel like I am in Lake Tahoe so green and pretty everywhere you look. I really don't know why you would want to live anywhere else! I will be here until I retire in 5 years then I am coastal bound.
I love living at Monte Sano Terrace for several reasons. The top 3 are: the location is ideal-on the mountain yet minutes from the Five Points community; the office staff knows me, which is amazing since there are over 300 apartments in the complex; and my maintenance requests are handled promptly and the apartment was immaculate when I moved in and even had brand new carpeting. Oops. That was 4 reasons!
I have lived at Monte Sano Terrace for six years and find the units up-to-date, spacious and well-maintained. The 2- and 3-bedroom floor plans are very efficiently designed; carpet and appliances were new at move-in. Living on the main level, my electric bill averages a little under $100/month. I enjoy the view of Monte Sano, the proximity to hiking trails, a large pool for swimming laps, location convenient to Five Points and downtown and the general quiet and security.
Monte Sano is a great place to live. It's quiet and has beautiful scenery. The staff is great, accommodating and friendly. It's by far one of the best apartment complexes I've lived in ever. It's nice to be able to come home to an environment where I know I'll be safe and happy.
The Reason I Plan on Renewing my lease is because this place is family oriented clean and full of piece and quiet! I often call it my get away! I have lived here 1 and a half years and plan on living here for a while longer! The only thing I would work on is parking! At times there are no parking spots close to my apartment! Other then this it's an awesome place!
I am a current resident & our building has had cars broken into 10 times in the past 3 months!! The parking lot is not well lit & when asked to get the one light fixed, we are told 'it is too complicated to fix it'-meaning they don't want to pay the $$ to fix it or replace it. The pool has chaos in it almost every night & courtesy officers DO NOT patrol the place that have had recent crime activity, so if living in fear is your idea of apartment living, come on home to Montesano Terrace!
I have lived on Monte Sano Mountain for 5 years, the last 2 of which have been at Monte Sano Terrace. I like MST because it is mostly quiet, the maintenance staff is prompt and helpful, and you are only a short walk from the local nature preserve and a short drive from Monte Sano State Park. Conveniently located to downtown and other parts of the city but removed enough that you can experience true solitude, Monte Sano Terrace is a great choice if you are looking to rent in Huntsville. It is also quite affordable, and all units feature a screened-in patio and/or fireplace! As long as I live in Huntsville, I plan to be on Monte Sano.
Just after reading what is "included" in the apartment I want to point out a few inconsistencies. First of all the tennis courts are definitely not lit, let alone tennis courts. They are now just a slab with poles sticking out of it and a broken fence. It claims to be smoke free but many people still smoke in their apartments and they do nothing about it. The smoke will get into your apartment and the only remedy they will give is you must remove all living tenants from the apartment for the entire day, which is not possible for many people. The online portal is very incomplete and they have tons of kinks that they have yet to work out - many times you will be charged much more than what you should be if you are not careful. None of the appliances are stainless steel, that is completely false. There have never been planned social activities throughout the entire time that I have lived there for over a year. Parking is absolutely a joke and many people end up parking along the sides of the road and many time boxing in other cars. When a concern is brought up nothing is done about this. The descriptions they provide are in stark contrast to what actually exists in the apartment complex. Onto why I actually wanted to write a review. Every individual I know who has lived there has had major issues from extreme mold, to sagging ceilings, falling floors, to horrible remaining smoke from a previous tenant. The main manager, Stephanie, was completely disrespectful in trying to address these issues and provided little options for remedying these issues of health and safety hazards. The only person who has ever been helpful or just respectful to the tenants was the assistant manager. There are no excuses for the state that the apartments are left in when someone has to go and move in. There are basic standards of health and living that should be maintained no matter what the price of the apartment complex. Until they make some serious remedies regarding the safety and overall state of their apartments I would not recommend this complex to anyone. I thought my issues were flooks but when I spoke to multiple individuals who had similar problems, I realized that they were not isolated issues and rather a larger problem that they must address.
I was happy to move back here after 5 years away. Since I've moved back here, they have made many upgrades and the maintenance staff is very friendly and quick to respond. I highly recommend this place.
I've rented at Monte Sano Terrace Apartments on two separate occasions. The location is great if you like walking there are acres of Land Trust property just across the street, so it's ideal for people with pets. While the buildings are not new, the management has always fixed any maintenance problems immediately and grounds have been consistently maintained. The area is quiet residential with a small shopping area at the base of the hill. If you're new to town, it's a great place to rent while you look for a permanent home.
Stay away from this place!!! Worst place ever to live! Steadily higher prices but consistently low quality. The grounds are not kept up regularly and the apartments are old on the inside. The three bedroom is a joke, the 3rd bedroom will barely fit a desk. The staff was extremely rude and not helpful at all. They told me that I would get my full deposit back if nothing was broken. I left the apartment spotless (I Lysol down everything, swept and vacuumed the entire place) and they still charged me a $50 fee for clean up which tells me that they never intended to give me back my full deposit. So they are bold-faced liars that can't be trusted! Lived there for 2 years, saw a lot of the maintenance people and they were nice but everything else just got worse and worse the longer we stayed. Do yourself a favor, don't rent here!!!!
