West Mountain is a large neighborhood situated about four miles northwest of Downtown Scranton. The area has a rich history, particularly in relation to its boom town days when the coal mines remained active and the railroad industry brought a huge influx of workers to the area. West Mountain is near the Lackawanna Coal Mine tourist attraction and the Steamtown Historic site, a museum devoted to the area's railroading days.
I-476 runs through the center of West Mountain, and I-81 is situated along the northeast side. This area of West Scranton is convenient to Downtown Scranton, the University of Scranton, and McDade Park.

Property Ratings at Morgan Manor
I've been a tenant at Morgan Manor for almost twenty years. I'm getting up there in years and have lived in several apartment complexes in this area before moving here in 1999. I fell in love with it immediately! It's like living in the country surrounded by woods. Close to the city but removed from the urban sprawl. My apartment layout is very roomy and well designed. It actually makes me feel like I'm living in a house. (I should say home because that's how it feels to live here!) The rental office has been fantastic at addressing any issues that have arisen during my stay here. Carol, who runs the rental office, is one of the most knowledgeable managers I've ever had the pleasure to meet. She's been extremely attentive to any of my concerns over the years and is so very pleasant and sociable to talk to. She truly feels like a part of my family! Colin and the rest of the maintenance team are very proficient in their skills and always there in a timely manner to address any issue that needs to be taken care of. I can probably keep lauding Morgan Manor and their team for several more paragraphs, however I'll end by saying I feel truly blessed to live here and look forward to living here for many more!

I am a current resident at Morgan Manor Scranton. Based from our 1 year experience we are pleased with the community, the maintenace, and the office management. Last winter we are surprised that the managment efforts to clear snow and help elderly tenanats was superb. If you have issues on your apartment the maintenance team is ready to help. Parking spaces are ample. Office staffs are really nice and accommodating. We thought of moving out to a more cheaper place but considering the safety, the cool management and the nice community the extra money is worth it. If you have kids better get the 1st storey unit. We are lucky we have a very nice neighbor who does not complain when my kids run on our second floor unit.
After spending 33 years in an 11 room home I decided to downsize and after researching the area moved to Morgan Manor. I have never looked back and have enjoyed my time here since December 2018. I love the country setting and that I can walk in the complex and can enjoy a beautiful pond as well as the walking path. I love my apartment with stainless steel appliances. When my sister visits from New Jersey she always comments on how quiet the complex is - which is true. I have made many new acquaintances here and have taken part in the monthly community events. Maintenance is excellent and always come by speedily to fix whatever. A new landscaping company has been hired and have done an excellent job. Did I mention that the apartment complex is pet friendly and I was able to bring my cat with me. All in all I highly recommend Morgan Manor

Thank you very much for this excellent review of Morgan Manor and for your recommendation! It's wonderful that you're happy with your decision to live in our community after living in a house for so long, and we're grateful for all of your praise. We hope the rest of your time here will be as enjoyable as the first six months have been!
The employees are AMAZING! They will go out of their way to help you in anyway they can! The only down side about living here is that the company continues to up the rent every time you renew but, I suppose that’s pretty normal...
My boyfriend and I have lived here with our cat for about 2 years. I love the fact that there are dishwasher and washer/dryers in the apartment! We have had no issues with Sonia during our stay and was most helpful and accommodating to us during our apartment search. However, the ground floor apartment we picked has a large gap in the baseboard underneath the vent for the central air. We didn't think anything of it until it rained for several days and water ended up coming in from under that gap. We called maintenance immediately and they looked inside and outside and basically said there was nothing they could do, it was just raining a lot so flooding happened. They didn't think that gap had anything to do with the flooding so it wasn't fixed. Another huge issue is winter. All the water heaters are in little closets attached to apartments on the outside. There is a door to the closet outside. The door has a very large gap underneath and there is virtually no insulation in there. Meaning the hot water heater and pipes are exposed to all the cold temperatures. There is a tiny heater that can be turned on to blow on a section of the pipes but it costs so much to run! Our normal 70-90 dollar electric bill went up to close to 300 when we turned that heater on and that was with he heat in our apartment turned very low in order to keep the bill as low as possible. It didn't even do a good job at keeping the pipes from freezing. Our first winter, the pipes were continually freezing, especially in Feb. We had to call maintenance many times to unfreeze our pipes. They always were mad at us like it was our fault. They accused us of messing with that heater outside and nailed our door shut for the water heater. One time they came, they used a torch to thaw them and burst the pipes. That water flooded the apartment from underneath that gap in the baseboard because that closet is on the other side of that wall. They ripped off all the pipe insulation that we bought and put on to fix the pipes. Another problem in winter is the slight hill in the parking lot freezes a lot and many times I, along with many others, could not get my car up the hill meaning I can't go to work. We plan on moving to a different place when our lease is up because we can't stand another winter in this place, plus the Scranton wage tax of %3.4 is ridiculous and we had no idea about this tax before we moved here. Knowing what we know now, we would not choose this place again.
My husband and I are relocating from Syracuse to Scranton in July. We understand finding an apartment can be a lengthy process, which is why we made a trip in February to scope out apartments, get an idea of where we would like to be, so that when the time comes, we will be able to submit an application when something becomes available. We walked in to Morgan Manor apartments and we were "greeted' by Sonia, after she finished her cigarette on the porch. I asked if she had time to discuss 3-bedroom prices/availability and to learn more about the apartment complex. Sonia was extremely rude and combative and told me she "has no 3-bedrooms" and this is a "very popular luxury community in a nice area of town" so she "doesn't know what she can do for me." She went on and on telling my husband and I how she CANNOT help us and didn't even offer us information. She acted as though we said we wanted to move in today. She also acted as though we do not belong in her "upscale" community... She was so rude, that all I could say was "thanks for your time" and turn around. It was only then that she offered to write down the name of ANOTHER place that we could look at. When we again stressed to her that we are only gathering info at this time and not moving until July, she said she could "maybe keep us updated on availability" but still failed to provide us with information or even take down our information. She could not even be bothered to take 5 minutes to provide us with information. She simply referred us elsewhere. Worst customer service/management I have ever seen, not to mention just a rude human being. By the way: I have seen "luxury" apartment homes before, and from the outside? Not so luxurious. Run down for a high price. Just wanted to warn others of a very rude woman/managing staff they would be dealing with if they moved in.
I've also watched the standards go down. I agree with previous poster they've failed to address the number of problems in this complex...lack of adequate insulation in the buildings, overgrown trees, lack of regular landscaping services and the swimming pool had been closed and removed. Poor complex upkeep and sanitation services are also rampant. What is going on with timely and regular garbage removal? Sometimes some dumpsters are not emptied for weeks. Garbage is blown by wind all over the place. Property manager’s competency is painfully obvious, rent is outrages and going up every year – you might as well buy a house; it will not be costing you much more. Potential renters, if this doesn’t discourage you from renting here, realize this: This is city of Scranton. Wage tax is 3.4% and might be going up. It was costing me $2000 more a year in taxes on an average than living in any other city with normal 1% wage tax. I am glad I made my move!
The complex lists itself as a luxury apartment complex. However, in the nine years that I've lived here, I've watched the standards go down (while the rents have gone up...way up). When I moved in, there was an operating pool, a person dedicated to taking care of the landscaping, and a manager who at least gave the appearance of advocating for the tenants. Today, the pool is gone, weeds abound, and the apartment manager's most common line is "that's what the owner told me." During these nine years, I've watched them make cosmetic upgrades (e.g., new kitchens...although not in my apartment), however, they've failed to address the number one problem with this complex...lack of adequate insulation in the buildings combined with inefficient HVAC which has resulted in high heating costs during the winter months. Rents have skyrocketed...not because they've made quality improvements but because other properties have raised their rents and so this complex feels they can do so as well. Why haven't I moved? Because there are no properties that are less expensive (especially when you consider the cost of making the move).
As a college student, I had to find a place that fit me and my roomamates needs and this is the place! We found them back in May and cannot wait to move in officially in August! Linda is by far my favorite staff so far !
My girlfriend and I lived here from December 2012-July 2013. We searched for apartments with amenities, and we got lucky with Morgan Manor. There is an amazing amount of parking there. We never struggled to find spots. The interior of our two bedroom was beautiful. The bedrooms were a really nice size. We had a king sized bed and bedroom set in there without a problem. The closet space in both rooms is really good. An additional coat closet, paired with a walk in pantry and other small storage closet in the kitchen. The final storage is on the nice sliding door deck with a utility closet. The neighborhood there is quiet and situated far enough from the main road that you rarely hear any traffic noise. The maintenance guys are great inside the apartments, but sometimes the lawn isn't always cut the greatest, or the snow removal lacks at times. The electric bills are kind of high because it is electric heat and a/c. Overall, we enjoyed our time here, and it is hard to find an apartment as nice and spacious as this and in such great condition. It is worth every penny of rent.
