A strong tradition of industry and innovation continues to influence the local culture—General Electric, historically one of Schenectady’s powerhouse employers, has re-invested in the city with renewable energy initiatives, and many of the old manufacturing buildings have been repurposed to house locally-owned businesses in recent years. Streetcars make it easy to traverse the city, and local rail service connects Schenectady to nearby communities such as Albany, Troy, and Saratoga Springs.
The city’s parks and natural surroundings offer lots of opportunities for outdoor activities. Golf and disc golf are popular among locals, and in the winter, several ski areas (in New York, Vermont, and Massachusetts) lay within an hour’s drive of your Schenectady rental. The performing arts have a strong presence, from Broadway shows at Proctors to classical recitals at the Union College Concert Series to free outdoor performances at the Music Haven Stage in the summertime.

Property Ratings at Netherlands Village
When I first saw this complex I was a little skeptical. The size seemed small online but I figured I would check it out. I met with the manager and we took a tour. Once I seen the apartment, I was glad I came. The apartment was perfect, especially for the price and what’s included. I would totally recommend this complex to anyone. It is quiet, hidden, and a perfect place to live.
New to the community but I knew it would be perfect! I originally came from Albany (not too far) and I was living in a thousand plus square foot apartment. I wanted to move closer to work and had to settle with downsizing by half! Even though I am losing square footage, everything that is included within the rent makes up for it! The only thing I pay separtate is electricity! That's right! I do not have to pay for heat, hot water, cable, internet, or trash since it is inlcuded within my rent! You really can not beat this deal! I do not pay more than $850 / month for my two bedroom. Can't forget snow removal is also included! The property manager is also very, very helpful. They do accept cats and caged animals. In addition you can also rent out a garage for only $35 more a month! This place just keeps getting better! Thank you Netherlands Village!!
It is nice to live here as it is safe and quiet. The heat hot water and cable are included. This is great as i am a single mom and just my income. The apartment itself is small. What makes it so special is the fact that my son and I are together. You see I am in recovery and have four years clean. I work full time and able to provide a quiet, safe living for my son. We have dinner together nightly in our living room/dining room. This is important to my son dinner together. My son can walk to school safely to get educated. So this apartment small that it is is our home and he deserves this!!
The apartments are just a little too small, but the cost was good. Did not move here.
Property Manager at Netherlands Village, Responded To This Review
I prefer the smaller size apartment - if you have a large family, though, this would not be the place for you. However, to be honest, there are some things that need improvement with this rental property. The plumbing system for the tubs must be quite old - if you shower, the tub fills up with water - enough to cover the top of your feet - and it takes quite some time for it to drain once you shut off the water. Drano, in its various forms, doesn't really solve the problem. But you do have to keep after the rental manager, as they are not that quick at getting things solved. The 1st floor apartment is nice, as you have better acess to a front / back yard area, but the 2nd floor apartment does not have a balcony available and it is quite odd to sit in the front or back yard area by the 1st floor apartment, when another person lives there - this property would benefit from some sort of recreational area where tenants can sit and relax - there is nothing like that here. The laundry area is not very efficient - two dryers / washers per building - it would be great if they offered a separate building for laundry on site or had more washers / dryers available per building - it seems more useful to visit a nearby laundromat if you can. The grounds overall are kept fine, some trees / shrubbery - though, some tenants have gardens in the front or back yard area of their apartment, generally those on the 1st floor - that would be your best bet, if you were interested in moving here, to snatch up a 1st floor apartment, so you had some of these extra amenities available, as the 2nd floor apartment really doesn't offer this opportunity.
