Beloved for its proximity to both the Jersey Shore and New York City, the central region of Middlesex County sits about 40 miles southwest of Midtown Manhattan. Nearby New Brunswick, home to Rutgers University, provides access to a rich, local arts and culture hub. This neighborhood is ideal for those seeking a quiet, suburban setting not far removed from nearby entertainment and amenities. Mid- and low-rise apartment communities in the northern section of the neighborhood give way to more single-family homes fit for a variety of renters. Interstate 95 and a host of other thoroughfares make commuting around the area a breeze.

Property Ratings at Nieuw Amsterdam Village
I have lived on this property for more than a dozen years, and I have enjoyed my stay very much. Here is my candid assessment of the property based on my experience, that can be helpful to others; -Location! Location! Location! - access to market, public transportation, GYMs, and major highways -apartments are reasonably priced, it's surrounded by beautiful good old trees, and well maintained landscaping through out the development. -amenities - property comes with the pool(I admit, I never used, but good to have one), plus dryer/washer rooms, club house, on-site gym and free parking -Great leasing staff - Personally, I have had great experience with everyone (Sandy, Gina, Marie, Bill), however, my special thank you to Sandy for all the care and personal touch that I have experienced from her. -Friendly and talented maintenance staff - Bill, Ralph, Juan, Tony, Edwin.. hello there.. keep up the good work! They are prompt on the repair calls, and they all are good fellows.. -Safe neighborhood, and nice community If you are looking foe an apartment in that area, I strongly recommend you to check out the property. Thank you -Sheela
I went over to Nieuw Amsterdam Village and looked at their model home. The place was very nice and spacious. The staff were super friendly including Marie who helped us. We had no appointment the first time we came in and she was willing to help right away. Two weeks later I asked if I could see the model home again before I decided to fill out the application, and of course she said it was no problem! I felt very welcome and the people living there seem to be quite happy as well. The landscaping looks well kept and beautiful, not only around the office area but the whole development. I recommend taking the time to look into them.
I recently signed a 12 month lease on April 1st 2018. I had a positive experience that I had, prior to and after I, signed the lease & moved into an apt, in the Nieuw Amsterdam Village Apts. I was greeted in the Leasing Office, by Olivia, who was seated at the front desk. She gave me a cheery hello & offered to assist me. It was during this time, that I had the pleasure to meet the Leasing Office Team: Sandy, Marie, Bill & Gina. They “all” made me feel very welcomed & offered their assistance, with any questions that I may have had & would have, if I decided to move forward with leasing from NAV Apts. I had already visited 3 other apt complexes that day, but with the warm reception of everyone previously mentioned, I think I knew inside, that I had found my new home. Olivia discussed the various options & willingly took me to see the model apt. Upon seeing the apt, I decided to move forward with the process. I went back to the office with Olivia and filled out the leasing application. I received a call, the following day from Marie, as promised. She advised me, that the application had been processed & I was approved. I then scheduled an appointment the very next day, to sign the lease and fill out other appropriate paperwork for occupancy. She was very professional, knowledgeable and very familiar with all the policies and procedures, of the community. Marie was patient, when receiving my questions, as was Sandy and Bill, who answered all my questions, to my satisfaction. Within a week of moving in, I had spoken with Marie again and arranged for a post inspection, of the apartment. Upon an inspection, several items needed some attention. That is where I had the pleasure of meeting Maintenance Technicians, Juan & Edwin. They were also very professional, polite & courteous. They had addressed the items that Marie had brought to their attention, amazingly from the day before. They are both an indication of the professional, courteous and caring maintenance personnel, that we all have here, at Nieuw Amsterdam Village Apartments. Please recognize the entire Team at Nieuw Amsterdam Village Apartments, for a job well done. They have exceeded my expectations and I feel, are valued members of the Team and deserve to be acknowledged for their exceptional customer service. Thank you & regards, Mario
Majority of staff is VERY lazy. The office is USELESS and rude. I've woken up to maintenance in my apartment with NO notification. The worst is the laundry room. They hike up the price of laundry and REFUSE to fix machines. The office tells tenants they can lug their laundry across the complex to other laundry rooms. The maintenance is trying their best, it is the TERRIBLE management. Do not live here. Tenants come and go from the neglect this complex takes. Save your money and go somewhere they won't over charge for poor apartments and somewhere who won't charge for the stupidest things.

Dear reviewer, I'm so sorry to hear about your unfortunate experience. This is truly uncharatoristic of us. We appreciate your feedback and hope that you will give us the opportunity to discuss your experience in order to make it right! I would also like the chance to comment on your points. 1) We just want to confirm that you are addressing the correct Nieuw Amsterdam Village. WE are located at: 1 Vandelft Dr, South Amboy, NJ 08879, and are proudly managed by Kriegman and Smith. We realize that this may sound silly, however we ask this because prior to this post, we have not been made aware of any issues regarding our laundry facilities. To further this, there is actually another Nieuw Amsterdam Village not so far from our location; we are NOT the same ownership or management, and we want to confirm that you have not mistakenly confused us. 2) We have an excellent relationship with our washing machine vendor, and although we are currently not aware of any issues with our machines, If there is a problem we certainly want to correct it as soon as possible. Please email us at: Marketing@KriegmanAndSmith.com Thanks again for the feedback and we hope to hear from you soon. Sincerely, Kriegman and Smith, Inc.
One who wrote the rent is cheap might be getting some discount for a reason. I pay 1250 living 2 years. The office management has different face for different people. This management keep rental office surroundings clean and fix the pot holes asap. rest all areas are neglected. parking lots are dirty. neighborhood apartments fix the potholes and walk ways all the time. 80% of the people who lived in London terrace will leave this community after 1 year lease. No smile on the management office people. Aggressive. Some times you see rodents digging under the basement. The basements are wet and hence the floor turns brown. I could give '0.00' rating if I had an option. Advise. last preference for this apartment complex.
My husband and our 2 year old son and family dog have lived here for two years now. It is lovely. It is a nice area, located near shopping areas that are walkable. The bus stop is right outside if you need to head into NYC , or don't want to drive. The complex is very very very safe. I'm from NYC and I couldn't had been happier with this move. There's a week kept pool, they are adding a community center, additional laundry rooms, and a community gym as I type. If there's any issues with your apartment they are very very fast on repairs. I never had a bug issue, never had a rodent issue. The ground workers are supper friendly and helpful. Please over look these non prudent comments on here, and come and check the complex out yourself. You will not regret it !!
Been here a year and a half fleas and ticks are really bad in summer when they spray for this they Only spray once they should be spraying more often with a lot of dogs in here also got to keep on them for something that needs to be done always a excuse you pay rent to live here and this is what you get would not recommend living here people always moving out
Lived here 3 months with no complaints. New kitchen and bathroom installed before move in. Very happy. Rent is reasonable and they have no cat fee. Again very happy.

I was surprised to see such poor reviews here. Is Nieuw Amsterdam Village luxury living? No. But for the price you pay, it really is one of the best options in the area. My Mom lived here for 5 years (2001-2005) and never had one problem. I am living here for 1 1/2 years now and have had several issues, but nothing that makes me say this place is bad. Pros: If you are a pet owner, its dog friendly. Rent is pretty good for the space you get (I will admit my 2 bedroom at $1260/month really should be closer to $1200). I've never had a problem with the office staff, in fact they have always been very kind to me. Emily has always helped me out and even gave me contact information for a dog trainer. When my A/C broke, they came in within 24 hours with a brand new one. When my drains backed up, maintenance was in right away (once, they were there in 30 minutes. I will admit, they didn't do a great job with the drain clearing, but see the "cons" section about that. The residents here are, in general, very nice and friendly. Of course you get the occasional grump/annoying resident, but everyone around me has been great. The grounds are pretty good. Nothing spectacular. They always mow the lawn and trim hedges, etc. But see the cons section for the other part. There is a pool on-site, though I have not used it. Looks nice, but my family has a pool 1 mile down the road and I don't have to pay extra for it. But certainly a nice thing to have and it always seems full of activity in the summer...great if you have kids. Cons - The buildings are hot, most likely due to the solid construction of the buildings. I tend to have to crank the AC even when its only 65 degrees outside, but its not a huge problem and I can deal with it. The buildings are old and I do believe the plumbing in my building needs a SERIOUS overhaul. Water comes up from my sink/tub often and while maintenance comes to "unclog" this helps for a week. There is a bigger building wide problem they should probably look into, but doubt they will. The grounds are "ok." Would be nice to see less dirt patches and more full grass growth. Again, doubt this will happen, but would be nice. Since moving in, my dog has had 3 bouts of fleas. I've never had a flea problem with him ever before until I moved in. I am guessing it is due to the large amount of homeless cats that hang around the grounds. This is my biggest gripe, but not sure what can be done. Big issue I have is not with management, but some residents. We have several dog owners who refuse to pick up after their pets. I am a responsible dog owner and wish others would be too. I ruined a brand new pair of shoes the other day thanks to this. And my neighbors 3 year old son fell in a pile of dog feces! Gross AND unsanitary. Management has constantly sent messages and fliers around, but it hasn't helped. They need to set up cameras as a means of prevention AND catching/evicting/fining people who refuse to pick up after their dogs. Until then, I took it upon myself to tape hand made signs on the trees to remind residents to pick up after their pets. I even provided my own plastic baggies to be used. So overall, NAV is an average place to live. Don't expect luxury, but then again, you aren't paying luxury prices. I will be moving out when my lease ends, but that is because I want a place with a Washer/Dryer in my unit. If NAV had that, I might be tempted to stay another couple years.
Have lived here for 6 years now. The lawns look like garbage. The repairs (If you're lucky to even get any) are a joke. I actually had a maintenance guy hand me a new faucet for the bathroom and had to install it myself. I have spackle putty in placed where old fixtures used to be instead of rock wall. The apartment is 80+ degrees, regardless of the temp you set, or if it's summer/winter. The office staff is horrible. Nasty, rude, and just don't care. It's like you're bothering them or something. Save your money, and look elsewhere.
