National publications constantly place Pittsburgh near the top of the list for most livable cities in America, and it’s easy to see why. The city has a rich history as an industrial and economic hub, which led to the construction of many grand buildings and public sculptures which still stand today. Downtown in particular is rich with beautifully preserved buildings and lush public parks dating back well over a century, giving the entire community a timeless atmosphere.
Pittsburgh is split into three sections by the rivers passing through the city: Downtown (a.k.a. “The Golden Triangle), the North Side, and the South Side. Each has its fair share of attractions and landmarks: the North Side is home to Acrisure Stadium and PNC Park (making it a perfect area for sports fans), the South Side features big, beautiful greenways and refurbished steel mills, and Downtown is where you’ll find the most variety in dining, nightlife, and entertainment.

Property Ratings at Nineteen North Apartments and Townhomes
I do not recommend living here at all. The only reason I give it two stars is because of the ample closet space in the townhome. The heating and cooling system is antiquated. Upstairs is a sweat box and downstairs is a freezer chest because of the glass sliding doors. I would not consider these apartments luxury at all. The bathroom faucet and toilet seat seemed as it had been here since the apartments were first built. There are water leaks and our sink and tub back up with water. I reported the issue to the office and maintenance came and poured drain cleaner. I had to buy a snake myself which pulled out tons of hair from the sink. Why couldn’t maintenance do this??! The problem was only fixed after I removed the hair from the drain. I do NOT recommend staying here. When our lease is up or probably even before, we are gone.

The Worst: - No phone connection. ZERO. We had to go outside to make a call. - Half of the power outlets in the apartment didn't work. - Extremely dark place, we had Huge electricity bills. - Dogs barking non-stop at 6 am every morning. - All sorts of spiders, bugs and roaches. - We had Mice, managment didn't do anything. - Gym-2 machines in the basement of the office. - If you try to break your lease prepare to pay triple. - Office stuff only care about check, they don't want you to come to the office if you have any problems. Our building: - Dirty laundry machines, full of hair and dust. One time it was full of dog fleas. - For 1/2 year we had one drying matching for the whole building. - Mail was always full of junk. - Weed smell in the corridor. Good For some - Location

Cell phones do not work indoors at this apartment complex. If you want to talk on your cell phone, you have to go outside. I have Verizon, the best coverage plan, not a cheap plan, and you CANNOT make or receive calls indoors. You have to go out in the parking lot to get any reception at all. My air conditioner has been broken for 2 months. They were supposed to fix it before I moved in and it is still broken and all they have are excuses, excuses, excuses!!!! IF YOU WANT TO LIVE IN A BOX WITH NO AIR CONDITIONING AND NO CELL PHONE COVERAGE, THEN RENT HERE, OTHERWISE, FIND ANOTHER PLACE. THEY HAVE A MILLION EXCUSES FOR EVERYTHING, BUT NO ONE WILL FIX ANYTHING. DON'T LIVE HERE!!!!!
I loved oaks of the mccandless management, but now the nineteen north apartment company is terrible. Just everything is TERRIBLE here!!!
21 July, 2016 It used to be The Oaks of McCandless, now it's Nineteen North, not McCandless "De-treed", which within the last couple of days is what happened in the Townhouse area, just about every tree ripped out. By the way Virginia, that's just the latest. In short, having lived here for a while now, we could not in good conscience recommend this complex to anyone.
Do NOT move here!!!!!!!! This place was actually very nice to live at at one time until Morgan Communities took over. They took away the pool for no good reason. Allowed dogs that go to the bathroom in all the common areas so they can charge you more money. Complain lol .... they do nothing about it ..... so watch were your stepping!!!! They charge you for EVERYTHING they can think of to get your money!!!! Yes, storage too!!!! Walls are paper thin and so are the floors. On top of that increased the rent substantially from the old management. Just do yourself a HUGE favor and PASS on this one. Don't say I didn't warn you!!!!
The new owners have turned what was once a nice place to live into a non stop construction zone. The noise, mess and heavy trucks from dawn until dusk is ridiculous. I also do not appreciate parking spaces being taken up by endless storage containers. I understand improvements need to be made however charging someone $300 more than what I used to pay is downright laughable. The only thing being updated are the kitchens and then they are putting in laminate NOT hardwood floors. You will also no longer have a swimming pool the way I did. You will be paying pet rent if you want to have a pet. Calling these "luxury" apartments is just not accurate.
The first thing you should know is that new management has taken over and raised the price of rent for the units, which to be blunt, are not worth anything near the advertised cost. Pros: Good location, close to stores, access routes, etc. Safe area of town. New management seems to have improved certain aspects of the grounds somewhat. Going back awhile there were a number of undriveable cars randomly parked around the place like some tow yard and these have been removed. They finally got rid of most of the wasp and hornet swarms. In general, the place probably looks half decent if you drive through to check it out. Cons: I laughed when I saw what new management was charging for this place online and via residents who received their renewals once they took over. The 'renovated' units look fine (removed carpet for hardwood floors and new cabinets), but let's be honest; no new amenities were added and they were nothing special to begin with. A 1BR that was $700 a year ago is now $1000...so $300 more a month for new cabinets basically. If they are renovating a unit above, below, or beside yours, have fun listening to closets being ripped out of the walls, non stop hammering, buzz saws, drilling, door slamming, etc. including on Saturday morning and Sunday afternoons for months on end. You'll hear your neighbor's every step on the hardwood floors when they are done, so if you aren't into that sort of thing, be aware. Other construction noise has been non-stop since April. First the jackhammers in the parking lot during the paving project, then the renovators drilling away on Sunday afternoon. Now, I am writing this at 8:30 am on a Saturday having been awaken earlier by the sounds of hammers pounding away outside of the building. Amenities are lacking for the price. No laundry in the units, there are only two machines in the building (one of which is usually not working properly), and the pool is closed for the summer just to name a few. Summary: They are raising prices through the roof but are not affording any new benefits to residents in turn. If you are a prospective resident, please be aware that you will be paying around 40% more a month than what the person who just moved out of your unit was paying for the sake of new cabinets and not having to vacuum. Many of the recent changes have only lead to more noise and irritation both inside and outside the buildings. In sum, I cannot recommend this place in good faith.
It's not exactly worth the price. Paying 1100$ for a 2 bedroom apartment is not ideal but at least it is safe and centrally located. Plenty of parking, new management is in the process of renovating, neighbors are friendly. Downsides would probably be no laundry in the apartments, no lights in any of the rooms except the kitchen and bathroom, not a lot of storage, only water is included in rent, windows are not updated, also might be more of a problem with cellular provider but we don't get cell service anywhere around the apartment complex. Overall, it's an average place, but probably paying more than it is worth.
