Development on the Sandalwood neighborhood began in the spring of 1960. Designed to provide inhabitants with the ideal balance of work and play, Sandalwood sits approximately half way between Jacksonville city center and its nearest beach, which lies roughly six miles east of the neighborhood.
Developer Pearce-Uible's primary Sandalwood concept contained 500 houses. To give the neighborhood an exotic ambiance, Sandalwood's original streets were all named after Pacific Islands. Mindanao Drive, Hawaii Drive East, and Kusai Drive are three of those original roadways. Two more streets, Majuro Drive and Luana Drive, were added to the neighborhood in 1969.
Nearly half the houses in the modern Sandalwood neighborhood are quite new. The original 1960s properties reside in the northern half of the area, whereas newer houses extend to the southern part of the neighborhood. Several educational establishments call the area home, including Sandalwood High School, established in 1971.

Property Ratings at North Beach on Kernan
My favorite thing about living at North Beach on Kernan is its location. We can get to the Florida Theatre, Jumbo Shrimp games, Everbank, St. John's Town Center, and the beach all within 20 minutes. St. Augustine is an easy 50-minute drive south. Grocery stores, the library, plenty of restaurants, and even a couple of hospitals are all just minutes away. It's been a great three months here so far!
My move in experience was great! The staff is super friendly, the apartment was clean and ready to go when I moved it, the neighborhood is quite, the lake is beautiful and over all I recommend this place!
Looks good except garbage place need to be fixed all the time we have problems and gate was making problems yesterday and Friday night we stock almost for 30 min so far so good steak are on the way very soon
I have been a resident for 6 years and I actually love it here at North Beach on Kernan! The community is well kept and thus far has been a safe place to live! I will continue to be a resident as long as the cost remains reasonable! A great place to live!
Great amenities and the grounds are always well maintained. Maintenance is good to get on the issue right away should you need them. Friendly neighbors and close to anything you could possibly need!

My first year at North Beach on Kernan was great, but this second year has been rough. I’m honestly counting down the days of my lease. The noise above me is almost unbearable. I can’t wait to move out. Also, they claim to be a gated community, however, the gate is always broken. Since living here, there have been multiple break-in’s of cars and packages stolen from resident’s doorsteps. Maintenance is great, though. They work extremely hard and have always been super helpful and timely in their responses.

I love this community. My only issue is the people that live above me. It sounds like someone is running a 24 hr marathon some days. It's just constant running & bumping across the floor above me!! But other than that the community is clean, well maintained and staff is always friendly and helpful!! I like that they have monthly events so it's a good opportunity to get to know other people. Amenities are also nice and clean. Also there are walking trails on the property.

I've lived in a few other complexes in my life, and this by far, is the best one. It's very well taken care of, they are constantly making improvements and keep the property up. The maintenance team is super friendly and very responsive. The apartments are comfortable and spacious. My dog enjoys the park and walking around, and I love to see different types of birds at the pond. Everything is clean and people are nice! I like that they bring in food trucks and are offering more community events.

I've been living in this apartment for one year and it's been a wonderful experience. The apartment rooms and appliances provided is fantastic. The maintenance team is quick and efficient, and the pool is always clean. I love the cafeteria area especially hot chocolate. The only downside i feel is lack of events, perhaps organising more community events, like game nights or potlucks or any other activities where we can get a chance to meet other society members would be appreciated. Overall I love this apartment and society and I also highly recommend this apartment to anyone looking for a comfortable and convenient place to live."

Once maintenance completed our move in requests, were very happy with our space. Our dogs love the dog park and the lake loop. This is also a much better location than our last spot, so close to the beach!

This is a nice community. The pool area is nice. The maintenance crew is very responsive to any issues. The office staff is very friendly. The units are nice sized. Overhead noise is sometimes very unpleasant. Renovations are currently underway in some units which look very nice. The shrubbery is tired and in need of attention and replacement.

Love the community. I have been here almost a year and it is time for me to renew my lease and I am definitely renewing, I have already done so. The maintenance is great, when you put it in a request it is handled in a timely manor, just love Royce, he is always so nice to me. My one wish is to have a another handicap parking spot. Some time it is a little hard to park and I have trouble walking. Other than the parking, I love it here.

In general I enjoy leaving here. The area is great and the upgraded units are really nice. The pool has been closed more than it has been open, I understand maintenance and renovations but the most resent closures is because the pumps aren’t working or something is broken. One fountain in the pond hasn’t been working and continues to be a recurring issue. There has been a sink hole in front of building for over a year. The sprinklers don’t seem to be on any kind of schedule because the grass is dying and brown There are piles of dead bugs in the breeze ways which shows the pest control is working but they need to be cleaned up no one wants to see a pile of dead bugs in front of their apartment. With that being said we love the maintenance team they work hard for the size of the complex For the amount of money we pay to live here a better job is needed.

Love it here! The amenities are amazing and the community is peaceful. The lake is amazing to take a walk. The apartment is refurbished and looks amazing.

Haven’t lived here long but so far out of the many many complexes Iv lived in this is the nicest and the price matches what you get. Everyone in the front office is super nice and the amenities are great!

There were some bumps in the road getting me into the unit, but the office was super helpful and I have been loving it ever since! Maintenance requests always get done the same day and the team at the leasing office is amazing!

We have been living here for almost 4 months and find the community very friendly. With the hot weather we have enjoyed the amenities, especially the pool. Staff is very friendly and when there is a problem with the apartment, they are on top of it immediately.
