Academia is not in short supply in Amherst. The town, also nicknamed “Knowledge Corridor,” houses three out of five institutions of the Five College Consortium, including Amherst College, Hampshire College, and the University of Massachusetts Amherst. So they really know their stuff here!
Much like the campuses, the city’s downtown area is vibrant and encompassed by a cinema, coffeehouses, diverse restaurants, and bookstores. Amherst Town Common is a large green space along North Pleasant Street, an ideal location for a pick-up Frisbee game or relaxing with a favorite novel under an oak tree. This college town has it all including Emily Dickinson’s childhood home, which is now a museum dedicated to the famous poet and her family.
Being immersed in culture is what makes Amherst a great city. Many conservations are located here, so the area is naturally beautiful year-round. In addition to Hampshire Mall and Interstate 91, locals want you to know how to say the city’s name correctly.

Property Ratings at North Square Apartments at The Mill District
The good: - package lockers - decent gym - parking lot plowed quickly - On the 33 bus route The bad: - paper thin walls - I could hear my neighbors' shower running, my neighbor's dogs both across the hall and two doors down barking and hear and feel my neighbors washer/dryer running. - I had horrible neighbors above me that chose to ignore quiet hours on a regular basis. Calling management did absolutely nothing, even when I was woken up in the middle of the night. - The ventilation system will let you smell what your neighbors are cooking or smoking. There were times the odors made me sick and I had to leave my unit. Again, management did nothing. So much for quiet enjoyment. - Management is rarely around. Phone calls are not returned promptly. No notice of things like painting the hall. - Wiring had to be re-done in several units despite the complex being 3 years old. Makes you wonder what corners were cut. - Windows open maybe 3" which is a fire code violation - Maintenance is nice but does nothing. I had several issues when I first moved in that took over a month to fix. My shower didn't drain, blinds were missing a control rod so I couldn't open and close them, and the oven was not cleaned properly so it started smoking twice and set off the smoke detector. Paint splatters on the floor and counter were not cleaned up. Flooring already peeling in places. - If you have to break your lease for any reason, you'll owe 2 months rents even though your unit will quickly be re-rented in a week.

My son lived at this apartment complex this past year 2021. We had a positive experience - found management to be amazing. The apartment was very new, nice appliances, great to have washer/dryer in unit, large living spaces.
