Property Ratings at Northgate/Southgate
I lived here for 2 1/2 years...no complaints at all. Maintenance staff is efficient, professional and very pleasant. The only reason I am moving is that I am unable to have animals. Otherwise, great location and office staff was always a pleasure to work with.
I lived in north gate for about 2 and 1/2 years the snow removal is terrible the staff is rude and don't care to solve any problems nor warn you about any ongoing projects, for example one day I woke up and they were doing construction at 7am right outside my window, spraying chemicals onto the building while my 6 month old child was sleeping with the window open, step outside my door to find a huge buldozer in the way. Terrible. On top of that when we moved out they wanted to try and charge us for things that weren't even broken after we signed all the disclosures and sent a bill a month after we left. Find another apartment please! I ended up investing in a house on my own and my mortgage is actually cheaper!! Explore your options, this is no one of them.
If I could give 0 stars I would. Horrible snow removal, they don't make residents move cars and that puts other tenants in danger. Their has been numerous cars unattended for months at a time in the parking lot at Northgate. They control the heat, it's always cold in the units. The staff I have had to deal with is useless. Kay did not offer any solutions to a big issue we are having. I would NEVER recommend living anywhere they own. It's time for assigned parking spaces if you can't properly do snow removal so the lots and walks are safe for all of your residents!!!
I live in Southgate. The only good I can say about it is that you only have to give 60days notice to leave after your initial year is up. There is as much sound insulation between the apartments as there is between rooms in a house. I know what apartment living is like, I grew up in an apartment and have lived in one most of my years. This is exceptionally bad. Some days I can hear my neighbor's neighbors. Banging and vibration travel as much as the noise. Smells travel. Plumbing is loud. Can't speak of the laundry 'cause there's no way i'd put my clothes in the basement machines (one washer and dryer per building). Storage doors are pad-lockable, but the door is about the size of a bathroom stall door with a huge gap above and below. Basements flood and stink like mildew. Did i mention the noise? Seriously, if you're into peace and quiet on occasion, it's going to be on a very rare occasion. And they've gotten more rare since the low rents are attracting young folks who like to party. No problem with the kids, I partied too, but that's not what I was hoping to deal with when I came here. Time to go. Hope this helps anybody who's on the fence about the place. One last thing, snow/ice removal is a joke. And because a lot of people here don't ever work or go anywhere, there are always a number of unmoved cars in the lot that hinder the plows when they do come. Did I mention the noise?
clayton and catheline Ouellette we did saw a two bedroom and to bad and to bath room on second floor . and we were very happy. we would like to see one on first fllor the same as second two bedroom and twobath room. we are very interested . thank you clayton and catheline.
I can't speak for Northgate, but Southgate is a dump. If you can afford to live anywhere else, do it. If you work for a living and like to take even a moderate amount of pride in your dwelling, this is not the place for you. I thought I might be coming across a bargain, but unfortunately not. You get what you pay for. The building is very old and the upkeep is done on the cheap when it's done at all. Painting over water damage. Replacing broken lock cylinders with even older lock cylinders (the keys look like prison keys that have been in circulation for 50yrs). It's obvious that ownership is looking to turn as much of a profit as possible here, so as long as they're getting their rent checks or state assistance vouchers, all is well. Location is decent, but the community itself is pretty ragged and attracts folks that are ok putting up with it. Office and maintenance staff seem nice and trustworthy enough, but lets be honest, their hands are tied. They can only work with the tools they're given. Quality of amenities is laughable. Free heat&hot water is nice, but also totally necessary considering old, drafty construction. There are a/c units, but they are wall units that are as loud as car engines. The fridges are one step up from a dorm fridge. In my block of 8 apts (four 2br, four 1br) there is one old washer and one old dryer in the basement. Your storage units will also be in the basement and if you don't grab some pallets to raise your stuff above flood stage, it will get very wet. I've seen as much as 2" of standing water in my basement after a big rainfall. Soundproofing (and smell-proofing) is nonexistent. You will hear folks using the basement and laundry (at all hours). Your neighbors business will be your business. And to speak to the "smell-proofing" part, there is actually a section of the lease agreement that forbids tenants from cooking with "curry or curry oil". I know curry can stain, but so can mustard and tomato sauce. So i wonder how many smell complaints it took to get that bit in the lease. And because there is one dumpster and one recycle bin to service the entire property, and because people are too lazy to take a little walk, their trash has a tendency to pile up at their doors and on their patios until such time as they feel it's worth their time to throw it out (and then they drive it down there). Everything here is 100% true. I can only speak for my own experience, but using that as a guide I can say that it's likely any positive reviews you see about this place are either scripted or misplaced Northgate reviews.

Thank You for your honest review. I was looking into southgate but I'm not so sure now.
When visiting these I was immediately sold. The Northgate apartments have a washer and dryer in the unit which was a huge plus! I also love how they had individual entrances, No shared smelly hallways like a lot of apartments! They are well kept inside and out. These may not be the cheapest in the area but are the best quality for your money. Cant wait to move in next week! Also the unit I have has a deck, and the decks here are not little balconys like you sometimes see. They are a very good size, big enough for a patio set.

"I currently live here" and "Can't wait to move in next week" seem to be in conflict.
