The largest city in North Dakota, Fargo rests on the North Dakota-Minnesota border and the western banks of the Red River. However, Fargo residents affectionately refer to their location as “North of Normal.”
You might find that Fargo is a bit different when you stop by the Fargo-Moorhead Visitor Center and see the woodchipper from the movie Fargo. Maybe it’ll be when you start spotting members of the colorful herd of bison painted by various artists scattered all around town, and rightfully decide to go on a scavenger hunt to find them all. Perhaps you’ll find it unique that Wurst Bier Hall serves a rattlesnake rabbit bratwurst and indulge your curiosity. You’ll notice that North of Normal is a pretty interesting place to be.
There’s no shortage of things to do in Fargo. Plains Art Museum and Rourke Art Gallery and Museum offer residents and visitors endless opportunities to admire art with all kinds of rotating exhibits.

Property Ratings at Northwood Commons
My apartment is beautiful and I love using the pool.
If I could give 0 stars I would terrible management multiple brake ins to garage and many items stolen and damaged. My vehicle has been ransacked many times and someone even had the audacity to cut my battery wires under the hood of my car. Management has done nothing to help and has offered no added security in any way. On many different occasions we have had drunk and drugged people walk into our apartment, up on our patio, and found sleeping in the hallways. If you ever decide to order anything online make sure they have a good mail insurance because about half the packages we ordered were stolen. I cannot wait until my Lease is up I would never recommend this place to anyone.
This place reeks of smoke, there's always bugs, the pool is always closed due to the health department, there's never anywhere to park and the management is awful. There was a broken part of our fridge when we moved in and we wrote it on our move in check and it wasn't fixed by the time we moved out which was over a year. That was only one of many problems that were never fixed despite calling repeatedly and going to the main office to confront them about it. Do not live here if you can avoid it, I cannot stress that enough.p
Building is crime ridden and filthy. Management is terrible to communicate with and they hid in your 80 page lease that your losing at least 1/2 of your security deposit the second you sign the lease. Don’t live here!
The unit we moved into was dirty and poorly maintained from the start. They had no regular maintenance person at the time and things frequently broke down. Maintenance sometimes took weeks to fix issues and the pool was shut down by the health department. Not the worst apartment but I don’t recommend it.

The apartment itself is well amended, even with the little, occasional things sometimes taking the forefront, like slight framing miscalculations and generally loud neighbors that attend the college just down the street. Mostly, though, the place is quiet and accessible and spacious, with a main drag of restaurants, theaters, and shindiggeries just down a different road. The building also has a workout area, a sauna, and a swimming pool, all inherited from the fact that the building used to be a hotel; while these amenities are tidied up well enough, they haven't been structurally maintained in decades. The biggest dispute to be had with renting with this place, or with Hegenes in general, is that the company tends to neglect that it has customers living in its building. Quite often, notices for substantial repairs taking place on the property aren't notified until the end of day before the repair is set to be made. While this is still technically correct, it tends to leave tenants in a sense of urgency quite often, since repairs, touchups, and restructurings are being done unpredictably throughout the building. Again, this is part of maintaining a rental property, but this leads into the biggest hangup I had while renting with Hegenes: When replacing the patio doors and their frames, the maintenance worker for multiple apartments removed the entirety of the patio doors, leaving the apartment wide open, and then left for an hour at a time, exposing that renter's property to the public. Knowing that my apartment was set for the same fixture replacement, I contacted the landlord, who told me that he had no idea what his maintenance worker was doing. Even after that call, the maintenance worker continued to leave these apartments wide open during the day while he took breaks or went for parts. Long story short: If something goes wrong in this building, which is as predictable as it is expected in hindsight, don't expect the property owners to respect you.
