Property Ratings at Nova
My experience at Nova has been a mixed bag; overall, management is alright. They are friendly and get to maintenance requests in a timely manner. The tenants more or less keep to themselves. Onto the issues: The garage has been repeatedly broken into the last several months. Several tenants had their cars broken into (including mine) and personal items stolen. There is street parking in the area but is limited to 2 hours max. You either have to pay for garage parking or constantly move your car to avoid getting ticketed on the street. It is LOUD. Newer apartments aren’t known for their soundproofing but combined with the apartment’s location, you will hear a lot of street noise, especially on the west side of the building. Nearby is a lumber yard, a YMCA, and every week Swedish Healthcare parks a trailer on the street with the generator running the entire time. Due to the area’s zoning all of this is permissible, even during quiet hours. For the most part I don’t hear my neighbors but one has taken up loud yelling and turning up the volume on their speakers during quiet hours. If it matters to you, there are not very many amenities offered, like a gym, but it keeps the rent lower than comparable buildings in the area. Overall, Nova is a mixed bag. I want to like it because of its location (close to lots of grocery stores, parks, etc.) and the rent is decent. However, security issues and at times inconsiderate neighbors are the biggest drawbacks. I would look elsewhere if I were you.
As I'm writing this review, building management finds it acceptable to install a new carpet in the apartment above me at 8 pm. When my washing machine broke it took 2 months to get a working replacement The noise is so bad that you can hear every footstep when the person above walks and you can even hear when they flush their toilet. The room that holds the recycling has not been cleaned in years This building gets really hot in the summer, you need a portable AC to survive Any option has to be better than renting from Nova
Ive tried reaching out multiple times through phone and email and no one returns my calls. ive left voicemails and sent emails asking about availability but have yet had anyone communicate back with me about a simple tour of any apartments. The website doesnt list rent prices, it instructs you to call to inquire about the rent...did that, but no one seems to work there. Ridiculous. Not a good sign. if customer service is this poor for interested tenants, i cant even imagine how they treat the current residents. ill look elsewhere.
Packages were being stolen frequently. Maintenance does a terrible job at repairing and a long time before they come in and fix it. You can hear everything through the walls and floors all the time. I can hear foot steps from above and my neighbor flushing the toilet or using any type of plumbing. The trash and recycling bin is always over flowing.
Since being turned over to the new property management company, this place sucks. Nickle and dime for every last thing. Pet rent is $100?? That's up by about $60 a month. Package delivery has gone away, no notifications of packages, and they sit out in the lobby for any and all. I've had three packages go missing in 2 months. I get everything delivered to work now. The ice machine on the roof was removed, the plants are dry and dying, cigarette butts litter the ground outside and finding anyone in the front office to ask a question is hit or miss. Go elsewhere and don't pay for a building that has literally one amenity. Or do. They'll probably take that away too.
Property Manager at Nova, Responded To This Review
You have some incorrect information. Pet rent is $35 for cats and $40 for dogs. We took over the building in June and a few things weren't working. We replaced the ice machine, and the new machine works great. We got a package locker over the summer, and you can now pick up your packages securely from the locker. The plants on the roof have come back nice and healthy. We bought two brand new grills for the roof. Have you used any of the new amenities? Are you still unhappy? Our office is regularly staffed and we reply to calls and emails promptly. If you are still unhappy with the management in the building, don't hesitate to come by and talk to us about it. It will get you further than a factually incorrect 1 star review!
Pro's are the building is clean, safe, and quiet. The finishes are modern and sleek which makes the small 1 bedroom seem more spacious. Storage space is limited, the bathroom is large and a linen closet instead of all the space would nice. Most of the appliances work well, the washing machine sometimes is fussy and you have to 'give it a break' to start it. The building is located adjacent to a lumber yard and food truck company, which if you are facing that side both businesses are very very loud at early morning hours. Although there is a Trader Joe's, LA fitness and convenient bus stops to downtown Seattle, there is not much else in terms of coffee shops, restaurants, stores in walking distance and it does not have neighborhood feel. Overall a nice building, but for the cost I have seen comparable buildings in better locations.
