Located about eight miles from Downtown Portland, many people living in Milwaukie Heights commute north to the city every day along Highway 99 East. Its direct line to Portland makes it one of the most popular up-and-coming neighborhoods in Oregon.
Those looking for a home in a large suburban community, but who don't want to travel far for their shopping basics, find everything they need in Milwaukie Heights. This neighborhood stands out for its long stretches of mid-1900s homes. Newer apartment developments sit along the outskirts of its residential areas, giving you plenty of options when you decide to live here. Cruise wide suburban streets to the west of the neighborhood's center or head east to check out its thriving block of local businesses. Since the residential areas are tucked away in clusters along the edge of the neighborhood, you never have to worry about the noise of big city life.

Property Ratings at Oak Grove
Old building, not a nice place to live. We are talking bugs, I mean ants, roaches and silverfish. They called and exterminator and the bugs came back within weeks and the management said we can only call for the exterminator once a year!!! All of the drains a very slow and the kitchens do not have a garbage disposal! The units do not come with any appliances beyond a stove and 2/3 size refrigerator and a dishwasher. Not only is there no Microwave when we plug our mid-sized uint in and turn it on the breakers blow!! Our dishwasher has had to be replaced twice, and when they replace them they will get used appliances. Oh, the places don't have air-conditioning and in many of the units the wiring is so old that it can't take the load of a window mounted unit! The people downstairs love to smoke and when they do it comes up through the walls!! Don't bother calling the office or security patrol about noise, the management team won't do anything about it and they'll tell you to lighten up and enjoy it! This is kind of hard at 12:30 in the morning when you have to go to work the next day! Now in some apartments it's common to hear water moving through the pipes at the "wet wall" but here the insulation is so bad you can actually hear your neighbors going to the bathroom! There are one and two bedroom units and the water and sewer cost are divided up per unit, not by the number of people in each unit. This means you are paying for the water used by your neighbors that have kids . And they add a little something to the bill for 'management' so don't be surprised to see your monthly add on charges in the $60 - $70 range and most of it is for sewer and water! If you still decide to rent here just make sure you are not near one of the few pet spots! They do not require pet owners to clean up after their dogs and on warm days you don't want to have your windows open! Got a problem? The office is closed on weekends and the so-called security patrol won't come out if your neighbors are loud, having a party or fighting. Seriously, just before Thanksgiving 2014 we had about 30 people having a mini gang war with some people in the apartment building next door! Finally, our lease came due (we had already decided to leave) the sent up a notice that our $780 per month rate was going to $960 per month!
This place is old and decrepit. The kitchen has no modern conveniences like a microwave or even a garbage disposal. It is infested with ants and spiders, and is damp and moldy in the Portland winters. And the new office manager is incompetent and slipshod; don't expect help.
This complex is aging, and while they make an effort to maintain it, it has some serious problems, such as insect infestations and mold. The kitchen is so old that it doesn't have a microwave, for instance, and the cabinets and drawers are crumbling. Plus, they just asked a large rent increase, when it's not worth the previous amount.
Although the management tries to keep the place spiffed up, this place is too old to be comfortable. The kitchens are from the Stone Age, the cabinets and drawers are falling apart and sagging, the appliances are ancient, etc. The building is infested with ants, and spiders, and has serious mold problems in winter when the rains come. We were glad to leave.
Although they tried hard to clean up the place before we moved in, the building is old and hasn't been updated. The kitchen is from the 70's, so no microwave or garbage disposal, and the cabinets and drawers are falling apart. Plus, the place is infested with insects, ants in particular, which seem to be living inside the walls. And there is a serious mold problem. But the staff is friendly and willing to help.
These apartments are well maintained and the manager is always happy to help with any matter. They are pet friendly, have a playground for little ones, it is a small complex and very quiet. The rent is very reasonable. The location is great! We are a short drive to downtown Portland and the Max will be up and running this fall (2015)! We are minutes away from the Trolley Trail, which is a great spot for walking, jogging, or taking your dog for a walk; and you can walk down the Trolley Trail to catch the Max! Just around the corner from McLoughlin, grocery stores, restaurants, Portland Aquarium, public library, and bus lines. So convenient!
When we moved across the country with no apartment we were terrified we would wind up in some run down shack. We e-mailed and called several places and have little to no responses and with our whole lives in storage (and us and our two pets at my in-laws) things were getting so stressful! When we heard from Jennifer at Oak Grove we were worried it was too good to be true but we came in and applied, were approved on site and moved in less than two weeks later. Everything was so smooth! We are comfortably settled now and love living here. Everything we could need is within a ten minute drive and we are perfectly located to easily commute to Portland and Oregon City. We got so luck with this place!
