Walker Mill, a suburban neighborhood located in Capitol Hills, Maryland, is a culturally diverse area. As you walk down its streets, the charming row houses on both sides of its wide streets stand out. There are more affordable low-lying apartments for rent as well. Bordered by Coral Hills to the west, District Heights to the south, Pepper Mill Village to the north, and Largo to the east, Walker Mills proximity to Downtown DC makes it a convenient neighborhood to raise a family. The area itself is less dense than the communities to the northwest, making it perfect for renters who want a little more peace and quiet while still being close to Capitol Hill.

Property Ratings at Oakcrest Towers
Front office staff is very lazy Property manager never there and never responds to emergency situations. Never lease with any property under Scott management. They moved us into a unit with an inoperable stove. It rained heavy bedroom covered with water stains carpet was also soaking wet. both bedroom windows were not insulated so rooms were cold with the heat on. Took them 3 and a Half weeks to address anything. maintenance just band aids problems and I still never heard from the manager. They only did anything because I emailed and called multiple times.
Pros: Affordable, spacious apartments, nice size balcony, ample parking, convenient laundry facilities. Cons: Mickey & ALL of his friends, roaches, car burglaries, vandalism & theft, rude front office staff, lazy and incompetent maintenance staff, noisy inconsiderate neighbors, subpar cleaning staff, numerous safety hazards, i.e., faulty door locks to your unit and main entrance to the building, heavy drug use, stolen delivery packages, stolen rent checks, loitering, huge dogs on the premises, out dated infrastructure and amenities. Overall, it's NOT worth the stress complaining to management, they ONLY want the rent payment. Now we are being charged utilities but can't hardly get anything fixed in a timely manner. If you value your sanity and peace of mind you will rent elsewhere. Seriously, you get what you pay for. Unfortunately, affordability comes at a VERY high price to pay and believe me you will pay dearly moving here.
I would like to regonize Tiffany and tiara of oakcrest towers I applied for a efficiency and it was the best experience I have ever had im looking forward to moving into my new apartment thank you Tiffany and tiara for the best experience ever keep up the great work
Mice! Rodent Infestation and Marijuana filled hallways!
Whatever you do. Don't move into building 2020. I lived on the eighth floor in a studio. At first I thought I was seeing things until one night I clearly caught a mouse running across the floor. Caught a couple of them and I thought it was over, little did I know it was just the beginning. I am a very clean person and no matter how clean I kept the apartment or how many times they sent the exterminators out, I could not get rid of the mice. Management never tried to get down to the root of the problem and it got worse. I hated being there. I finally just packed my stuff and moved. I didn't care about tge 45 day notice. If you are cool with unwanted pets running around your apartment Oakcrest Towers is the place to be
I lived at Oakcrest Towers for over a year and received military transfer orders to the west coast. I gave Oakcrest Towers my notice and moved out 3 July 2020. First Oakcrest Towers tried to charge me carpet replacement fees and kept my security deposit. I fought this because the carpet issues they claimed were from me were annotated on my move in and I should not be held responsible for damage done prior to my move in. They reevaluated and decided to give me $276.38 of my $300 deposit as there was an oven cleaning fee. It has been *4* MONTHS since I left Oakcrest and have still not received my refunded security deposit. I have called Oakcrest Towers every two to three weeks to check the status and have been given the runaround. They claimed they sent it to the wrong address and corporate was going to resend it to my proper address but that was almost a month ago and I still have not received it. They are quick to take your money if you owe them something but won’t get your money back!
I have been living at Oakcrest Towers for a month now and I’ve really enjoyed it. The staff is nice and friendly, and very understanding when it comes to handling the stress of moving. The apartment is nice, noise is minimum, and overall it is a very nice place to live. The only thing I’d be particular about is the smell of smoke that kind of lingers in the hallway, but as soon as I get to my door there’s no problem. Glad to be here!
When I first moved to Oakcrest Towers I thought it was an alright place to live. Over the years I have lived here I have seen an extreme decline in the quality of living here. There are always roaches crawling in the main hallway when you enter the building. The lock on my door was "mysteriously" broken when I came home from work one day. It took all night to get someone to come fix it, even though having no lock on a door is considered an emergency. There were two rapes in my building, not to mention the homeless vagrants sleeping in the laundry room. I called several times to say I could hear something crawling in the walls, and then I called again to say the critter living in my wall had made its way into my apartment. They are constantly raising the rent to pay for some "improvements" that nobody has asked for or needs. Two separate times the improvements made were an inconvenience at best and really a cause for safety concern if I'm being honest. I'm not sure what the screening process is for new residents, but more and more there are people moving in and out quickly bringing with them nonsense, commotion, and problems. This company also knows no loyalty to long time residents, especially when those residents are professionals who take care of their apartments and do not cause issues (which probably explains why people move in and quickly out). If I were someone thinking about moving here I would definitely think twice. As for me I am finally going to be like my much smarter neighbor and get the heck of this dump!
I only live their for a year and couldn't wait to leave 2020 #807. When i moved in, the apartment had bed bugs. The pest control came, but they were still there. I had to replace my bedroom furniture and my rental insurance didn't cover bed bugs. So make sure you read your rental insurance. I'm suing Oakcrest for the money i had to replace two mattresses, box springs, bed sets. Elevators ALWAYS BROKE and security gate. I don't make sense that they are building a senior citizen complex , but can't replace those old elevators that I got stuck in several times. The staff is unprofessional SMH. Talking to a manager doesn't get you no resolution or corporate SMH. I'm SOOOOOOO thankful I don't leave their anymore. Again RUN DON'T MOVE IN OAKCREST TOWERS.
This complex is everything you don't want out of a home. The office staff is unbelievably rude and unprofessional! Even those at the corporate office, which you will be calling a lot if you move in here. Even the rental staff is unprofessional. The day I went to pick up my keys, they told me the unit I was supposed to have got rented, so they had moved me to another one, in a different building, with a different floor plan. I asked to see it before I moved in and they gave me so much attitude! The manager argued with me for almost 15 minutes then begrudgingly took me to see the apartment, which took less than 10 minutes! She spent more time arguing with me about why she shouldn't have to show me the unit before I signed the final paperwork, than it took to take me to actually see the unit. I know now that should have been my indication of how living here would be. The buildings are infested with roaches. You see them all over the hallways, elevators and garbage rooms. I lived here for two years and MOST OF THE TIME the elevators in my building did not work! But also, the lights in the stairwells were out, so you had to use your cell phone or walk up a pitch black stairwell. It took over a year of complaining about it for them to install lights that worked. The elevators, by the way, still aren't working on a consistent basis. Weekly, at least one is not working. After a week or 2 of this, the other goes out from overuse and we have to go a few weeks without either. They claim they fix it or order new parts, but a few weeks go by and the cycle starts all over again! The gate to the parking lot also never works. Cars are constantly broken into! When it snows, they DO NOT clean the lot or the streets. So your car is stuck. And even if you get it out, you can barely if at all, make it out of the parking lot because they won't clean or salt it. A few times my neighbors and I were stuck, we called security and they told us that they had salt and shovels, but that they couldn't give us any because they were told they don't have to help us. This happened 2 winters in a row! This was by far the worst rental experience I've ever had! I kept wondering why most of my neighbors were moving out! Month after month all you see are new faces. The elevators full from people moving in and out. But no one stays! With the amount of rent they charge, they can afford to hire a friendly staff and keep up with the buildings, but they do not!!
On 3/14/16, I went to visit a good girlfriend. We went to the leasing so I could check the availibilty of a one bedroom. While, the leasing consultant was assisting me. My girlfriend gave me a bag of plain potato chips and I told her that I didn't want it. As we were going back and forth about the chips in a joking way. Charmaine, who was sitting in her cubby hole doing nothing; said, "Well, if u don't want it, you can put them back". In an arrogant manner. My response, "I am aware of this". I, then said to my girlfriend, " She need to find something to do because this was between you and I". Charmaine heard me and said, "Well, you are in my office". My response, " You really need to find something to do, instead of harassing a potential resident. Where is the supervisor? ". Her response, "Would you like me to get the supervisor for you?" Before, I could respond, a male walked in, who I thought was the supervisor but he wasn't. My girlfriend was very embarrassed about the entire situation because she referred me. So, she said, let's go and just file a complaint. She also said, she believe Charmaine is the Asst.Mgr. My girlfriend was really looking forward to me moving near her. Unfortunately, that is not going to happenn now due to my less than positive experience. Thanks Charmaine! Charmaine does not represent Oakcrest Towers well. Her behavior is definitely unacceptable and needs to be addressed accordingly and expeditiously or she will continue to run away potential resident.
Oakcrest Towers is a great place to live but the people above me are noisy, their children are constantly jumping, the vacuum is always on several times a day, there guest are loud and be sure to be awaken by the sound of their children jumping and loud television. I have asked a courtesy officer to go there which has been done, I have also written a letter to customer service and the tenant above me and nothing has been done by customer service. I should not have to live like this everyday, they need to go. I am frustrated to this point and about ready to move.
I would like to report the poor customer service I received from Melvin on 4/11/2016 as it relates to my teleentry. Dwayne came over to the property 2021 made an attempt to assist me which was excellent by the close of business my teleentry was working. However, I had to leave to go to a rehearsal that evening and could not make the rehearsal because I could access the exit gate because my key card was disengaged. This evening has really been an inconvenience. I am expecting a response to this concern. Thanks, Best Regards Dr. Thompson

Oakcrest Towers is a great development for the whole family. i like it here because for many reasons. 1. It is centrally located to public transportation, shopping areas within a mile in any direction, park like settings around each building, a gym, mini mart, pool, tennis court and plenty of space for walking. The apartments are well maintained, and the maintenance service is expedient. There is always security patrolling the premises, and if you need to specially escorted into the building after dark or anytime, they are buy a phone call away. Oakcrest provides opportunities for the residents to meet by having Bingo Game Time, Wine and Cheese Jazz gatherings, and a monthly Forum where there is dialogue from invited P.G.elected officials and their liaisons ,and health and recreation for families and seniors. I have been here for over 30 years and I do not plan to go anywhere.
The apartment is OK it just need updated amenities.
Hi all. I have been living at Oakcrest Tower Apartments since June of 2010. The experience for the most part has been very delightful. The apartments are clean and the room space is fairly adequate. I myself am single and renting a one bedroom space, so I find it more than adequate for my needs. I live on the 6th floor with a nice balcony view of the parking lot and the recreational playground. I have noticed that when there are fireworks sprouting on the Fourth of July that the site is amazing. The residence here at Oakcrest Towers is a wonderful melting pot of people from different cultures and ethnic backgrounds. No one bothers anybody. The staff here at Oakcrest Towers from the managerial personnel to the janitorial staff are what you would expect. They are pretty customer oriented and patient with the residents. Oakcrest Towers features a customer service office where one can choose to pay their rent in person, or the other option which allows for one to conveniently pay on line. Their is a gym and a swimming pool and a tennis court on site. Sometimes the staff at Oakcrest Towers will hold activities promoted towards bringing residences closer together, and for personal safety awareness. There is a laundry room on every floor. I must say in all honesty though that the machine washers and dryers, while it cleans and drys clothes effectively it is very challenging to get the machines to start up and work. I have a card that I put money on and then insert that same card into the machine in order to get it to work. I end up having to reinsert my laundry card several times just to get the machine to start up. That can be quite daunting and discouraging to anybody trying to wash their clothes on site. If I had a complaint here at Oakcrest Towers that would most certainly be it. I don't quite understand because the washer/dryer machines are still fairly new. There are Securitas security personnel driving around from time to time to make sure that the parking lots are safe. You do have to be safe yourself as well however. No matter where you are it's important to always observe your sorroundings. It's not a bad neighborhood but quite frankly that (observing our sorroundings) should come natural in everything that we do in life. The experience here at Oakcrest Towers is what you make it. I have found it to be wonderful thus far. The rent does tend to increase however every year with the cost of living in this unusual economy.
Well Oakcrest Towers is slowly going down hill. When changes are made we are not being told or asked. As renters, for insistents our locks on our doors were changed. But it was a drastic, computerized change now we are monitered when our door open and closes. I feel thats an invasion of privacy, and when ever changes are made, the rent goes up. Now maybe if we, had a vote on weather or not we need that change or not, or even something else that the tenets feel could be of more use since we live here. You also try to get things fix in the apt and they fix one thing (not fix though) and don't come back to fix the rest.Called them and still nothing. Then they want to raise the rent. We also have to be subjected to vagrants sleeping in our laundry rooms. I strongly feel changes need to take place. Now they try to have little things for the tenets but we have bigger problems to work out then having cook outs and pool parties. those things are nice but that money could go towards up keep and maintance of the building, and safety. Thats seems to be the bigger problem. With Oakcrest Toweres. Id reather feel safe going to my laundry room, or waking up and finding out that my car is still in the parking lot, in the same condition i left it. We have a picture of a camera up in parking lot but when you get your car broken into or stolen. You find out after going to the rental office, that there are no cameras. Ok now thats not good. Thats what i mean about maybe letting the tenets have a say in some changes. We live in the buildings, not just come to work during the week. So we no what goes on. These security people driving around here doesn't even help, cars get stolen and broken into.Makes you they are part of it. I'm not bashing but hoping that this helps better conditions. And gives others a voice in where they live. Thank you very much for this opportunity.
I love this complex. It has improved very much. I love that all the utilities are free. Would love to move here soon.
Maintenance takes forever to fix things. And the hallway always smells like trash! My neighbors are pretty quiet though.
Oakcrest towers is a very clean nicely staffed placed and I do enjoy living here but because of my job and not having a vehicle it's an inconvience and danger for how early I have to wake up other than that good place to live..
This apartment is the most well maintained and conveniently located apartment home in District Heights and quite possibly the broader areas. Soon as you walk through the front doors hospitality greets you in personality as well as seasonal displays of decorative greetings. Creative standout images of staff and entertainment provided for tenants during festive seasons and occasions. Complimentary games, gifts, coffee and snacks are all part of this fabulous Location, Location, Location. Beautifully kept landscape, minutes from beltway and inner loops, 3 shopping centers, bus stops, and metro trains nearby. Extreme amenities offered, small fee for utilities, volleyball, tennis court, gorgeous swimming pool and huge wifi court adjacent to pool. Relax and feel the Hawaii ambiance of this wonderfully planned vacation spot. The staff here go the distance in creating a vacation at home for their tenants. . Most of all OakCrest towers is spacious and affordable. I love this complex and all it has to offer.
Oakcrest towers provides a great value for those looking to live close to D. C. or Virginia. It's an older building so make sure you choose an upgraded residence. Also the buildings have their own individual vibes, if you prefer a more quiet community make sure you request a building near 2031 community. The area by the pool can get a bit rowdy during summer months. It takes them a while to fix things like the intercom system which has been out for about a month, but the grounds are clean and staff is helpful. If you are looking for a building with Conceirge, and the normal amenities in D. C. Then this isn't it, HOWEVER if you want to have an apartment that is affordable, clean, and close to the city...then come on in.
I like my apartment and the size because it's perfect for me. When I need something fixed the maintenance people are on it. I don't have an issues with the community or the neighbors.
Beautiful landscape, tennis courts, volleyball nets and swimming pool. Very clean buildings, floors, etc. Customer service very interested in pleasing tenants. Metro in walking distance, peaceful and beautiful. I have lived here since 1992, wish they had indoor security. Apartments are very spacious but the rent increases $70.00 per year. When I moved in in 1992, the 2 bedroom was $687.00, now it's $1333.00 a month including utilities. They never renovate, and new tenants are treated better than true and blue tenants like me. (24 Years of paying my rent on a timely-basis) and nothing to show for it and nothing received not even a "white rose." I am on disability and can't afford the rent now since I receive Social Security and I am 60 years old, but nobody cares about having a section for disabled elderly at Oakcrest Towers. Before I became disabled I earned $4,000.00 a month, now only $1,600.00 a month and without life insurance I am scared of dying. If I don't find affordable housing I am in trouble causing my anxiety and depression to increase daily. Peace and Blessings.
I just moved in this unit last week and I am very pleased with the renovations and the distance to the metro rail.
Oldie but goodie meaning I love this apartment because of the charm but it could be upgraded with newer appliances
Its amazing, a convenient store close by and beautiful lobby. Spacious bedrooms and living room.
Oakrest Towers has a very spacious apartment. It has excellent maintenance. The elevator, hallway, and the entire space are always clean. You will get immediate response once you call for maintenance service.
Living here at Oakcrest Towers Apartments is really a relaxing environment. Coming home from work and enjoying your apartment home with all the updated ammenities, we have a huge swimming pool , grills, tennis court and free wifi in those areas what more can you ask for. We have a convenient store for those lazy days. Our community is friendly with wonderful people of all ages. And not only Oakcrest Towers is conveniently located to downtown DC and Va we have major stores within walking distance and just a short drive. Last but not least our staff at the rental office is very professional and act accordingly to emergency situations as well. I love it here especially the spacious rooms and nice views from the balcony.
Oak crest had always been very good place to move to i wish i could be there strong wall's clean place stay great thanks William
I would love to have a chance to live there the apartments are so big and kitchen is to die for..
I stayed there for about 4 years I liked it. The up keep was well done. The only thing I did not like was that the front door was always broken the lock that is. I liked the pool and the meet and greet they would have at pool side every year.
I'll be moving in within a week and so far so good. The staff was very friendly and processed my information in no time. I can't speak on the living conditions, neighbors or maintenance as of yet but I'll be sure to comment once I'm moved in.
I have lived in a lot of apartments and most of them have been pretty bad and anything that I have ever suspected was a good place to live was always over priced. Oakcrest Towers was a pretty nice place to live for the price. In fact I have just moved back into Oakcrest because I have not found an apartment that I could afford that was as nice as the apartment I had at Oakcrest. My only complaint is that I can't raise the heat about 72 degrees. My solution is heaters.
Took over a week for maintenance to fix a major issue that was in my apartment. They kept promising to come and never showed. I finally had to call the corporate office before maintenance showed up at my door. Also the women in the customer service office have very nasty attitiudes. However, Melvin is nice and always patient. And dont even get me started on the roaches....I have never had roaches but I see them in the hallways so be careful to not let them in. The people who live here are nice..well at least in my building they are nice.
I just moved to the Towers 3 months prior; I am renting while renovations are being undertaken on my home. Initially, I was very reluctant after reading some of the reviews online; however, I have been pleasantly surprised. As a public school teacher, a top priority was a quiet community. After hours of dealing with children, it is imperative my home time is free of noise. I rent an apt in bldg 2020 on the top floor. I am actually shocked that from within my apartment, I never hear sounds from neighbors on either side and/or below me. At one point, I began to wonder if I was the only resident on the floor because I never hear anyone and rarely see neighbors. The quiet tranquility here is ideal for singles, professionals, and seniors who desire an adult community that provides for children but insulates tenants from the noise and daily living sounds of their neighbors. My unit is nicely equipped, clean, rodent and roach free! Moreover, I have a million-dollar view; I love sitting on my balcony and relaxing. Once, my home is renovated, it is going to be difficult for me to leave the Towers. I pay a small fee to have all utilities included with monthly rent and I get a teacher's discount. Several of my colleagues currently live here and have lived here in the past. Location is 2nd to none: eateries, stores, and, shopping within walking/driving distance. Staff responded with immediacy to the few maintenance requests I've made. Parking lot is well lighted and building halls and elevators are clean. Definitely, a well kept secret!

I JUST MOVED IN ABOUT A MONTH OR SO AGO. SO FAR SO GOOD. IT IS VERY QUIET & FOR A WHILE I DIDNT EVEN THINK I HAD NEIGHBORS. I LOVE THE CONVIENCE IT IS TO JUST TAKE THE TRASH TO THE TRASH CHUTE & HOW THEY HAVE LAUNDRY ROOMS ON EVERY FLOOR. I JUST NOTICED THAT WE HAVE A CONVENIENT STORE ON SITE. THEY NEVER MENTIONED THAT TO ME WHEN I SIGNED MY LEASE. BUT ITS THEIR IN ONE OF THE BUILDINGS IN THE BACK. THE STORE HAS EVERYTHING YOU NEED FROM KITCHEN SUPPLIES TO FOOD AS WELL AS AN ATM. I STILL HAVENT FOUND THE PLAYGROUND, NOT SURE IF THEY EVEN HAVE ONE. BUT I DONT SEE WHY THE WOULD HAVE LITERALLY EVERYTHING THAT YOU CAN THINK OF AND NOT HAVE A PLAYGROUND SOMEWHERE? IT REALLY IS A NICE & QUIET PLACE TO LIVE. I AM VERY SATISFIED SO FAR. I HAVENT SEEN ONE BUG YET. SO CROSSING MY FINGERS I NEVER COME IN CONTACT WITH ONE BECAUSE THEN WE WILL HAVE PROBLEMS. BIG BIG PROBLEMS. I DONT DO BUGS.
