Property Ratings at Oakmont Park Apartments
I have been here since August 2000, save 16 months where my work moved me around. When given the chance to come 'home' that's exactly what I did. I came directly back to Oakmont Park Apartments. It is always kept pristine clean, major snow storms where everyone else is closed up; the crew here works around the clock keeping Oakmont Park Apartments open at all times. If ever an issue management is only a quick call away & jump instantly to remedy the issue. There are always going to be the 'haters' out there posting nonsense reviews, and then there are the long term residents here who never think of looking elsewhere. Those are the people to look at when finding your new apartment home, the long term residents and why we stay. And Oakmont Park Apartments has many long term residents who laugh at anyone who suggests going elsewhere.

Pros: Next to Lake Scranton. Ample windows, provides light/sunshine. Barely used the lights, helped electric bill. Windows are insulating. Hardwood floors. Great water pressure. Gas stove: it's tiny, but gas is cheap. Large bedrooms: I fit a bed set including queen bed frame, two large dressers, two night stands, & a large mirror in the main bedroom & a queen bed, desk, & dresser in spare room. Living room size is decent. Safe location & away from downtown city life. Walk up entrance. Feels like its own community/neighborhood. Cons: Rent increased 2x in the 12 months I was there. Heat is paid for, which is nice, but no thermostat in unit. It’s at 90 degrees 8 months/year. Open windows year-round (No AC). In the winter, they plow mid-night on weeknights. Bulky heaters on at least 1 wall in every room, leaving limited furniture options. Laundry paid in quarters & the price has gone up since living there. $2 per load per machine. Adds up quickly. Thin floors/walls. You can hear conversations very clearly. Hardwood floors makes for easier cleaning (one might think), but lease says you have to cover 80% of your floors in carpet. Area rugs are expensive!! Unit was near the main road. Traffic noise 24/7. Open windows year-round, meaning more noise. Oak trees line the streets (also where the parking is). Prepare to have your car pelted with acorns. In the summer, prepare to have swarms of bees on your car. Not exaggerating. They have parking lots, but depending on where your unit is, the walk may be long. Drivers speed in the neighborhood. The floors sag on the upper levels (old building). If you have bookshelves/storage cabinets, don’t expect it to lean up against the wall. It will stick out & your books will fall over. Doors expand in the summer due to humidity/heat. Sometimes I got trapped in a room b/c I couldn’t open the door. Outlets are sparse & located near the floor. Get ready to buy lots of ugly extension cords. Sink is shallow and faucet is low. Terrible for washing dishes (which you will be doing a lot - no dishwasher). Little counter/cabinet space. You will have to buy a kitchen cart to make more counter space. Fridge temperature is uneven. If you push stuff to the back of the fridge, it will freeze completely. Tried turning the fridge temp down & it still does this, no matter how low the temp is. Hard to avoid this - the fridge is small. Ant/lady bug problems. Not great service. Calls would fail/not come through at all. If you can, buy a landline.
I'll preface this by saying the office lady and maintenance crew are great. They were fantastic with anything we needed while we lived there 2.5 years. That said, we had so many issues. (First floor apartment, 1 br) From leaks in the bathroom ceiling, to the upper window parts dropping just far enough we didn't notice and letting in wasps, not once but 3 times, to mold issue in the bedroom closet. Not to mention the mice we couldn't get rid of no matter what we did. We never left food unwrapped and yet in 2 months we trapped no less than 7. Additionally we had gone month to month and it had been put in writing that my husband was looking for work in a new career field. So if he got an offer we may not be able to give them the full 60 day notice they requested. Turns out that's exactly what happened and the owning company acted like they were never told. Overall, good on site staff, owning company is a joke and no, definitely NOT worth the price they charge.
We moved out on April 29th, 2017. We took two days to clean everything. We received our deposit minus $200 for cleaning. Are you kidding me????? I took pictures of EVERYTHING BEFORE WE LEFT. There is no option to post it here. These are a bunch of scammers. Oh and management will come unannounced into your home while you're at work. Stay away!
All apartment entrances are walk ups and there are several large, well groomed courtyard areas. Dumpsters are reasonably close to everywhere, ample parking in lots and on the street. The maintenance crew is friendly, efficient and prompt. Walking distance to Lake Scranton which is a nice little place. Laundry on site, but I use the laundromat a mile down the street. Close to restaurants, grocery stores and route 81. I love it, going on my 4th year.
I recently moved out from Oakmont Park, and it was the best decision I'd ever made. The management staff was TERRIBLE to work with. They notified you of things VERY late, if at all. TWICE I did not receive my rent invoice, and then was charged a late fee because of it. The apartments themselves are terrible and very old. Very few outlets, tiny kitchen with no counter space, tiny bathroom, no lights. The laundry units didn't even work and there were 2 washers and 2 dryers. When they'd plow or do any work, they would do it at terrible times, such as the middle of the night and keep you up all night. They control the heat, and it's VERY hot. Most people keep their windows open throughout the winter. I know it's not their fault, but the management staff is all foreign, so they were hard to understand, and didn't understand what I needed. Most of the parking is on the street and people fly through. My car was hit twice. It's in a nice part of town, but there is not much near there. If you want to go to a bigger store such as Wal-Mart or Target, it's at minimum a 10-15 minute drive. I would not suggest this place to my worst enemy.

We are sorry that you did not have a positive experience at Oakmont Park. We strive to do our best for our residents. It's true that the buildings were built some years ago, but all the kitchens have been modernized and we have recently modified the 1BR kitchens to increase counter space. The heat and hot water are included at Oakmont Park and the heating system is managed by a computer. We certainly don't feel we overheat, but apartment temperature is a subjective thing and we strive as best as possible to find a happy medium temperature for the residents. We apologize if you were charged any late fees in error, and hope that you notified us and the fee was removed. The fees are computer generated and sometimes a manual adjustment has to be made. We pride ourselves on excellent snow removal service and it's true that the men will be out doing the snow in the middle of the night if necessary, so that the residents can get out on time in the morning. In closing, we are always striving to improve, and we thank you for your feedback and welcome you to contact us if you have any other suggestions on how we can. Raymond R. Patete -VP
