Northgate is directly north of Downtown Durham, adjacent to Northgate Mall. This neighborhood is perfectly positioned to take advantage of all of Durham's amazing destinations: Rock Quarry Park is directly north, Beaver Marsh Preserve is on the southeast side, Duke Regional Hospital is to the north, Duke University is a few blocks southwest, and the Museum of Life and Science is in the neighborhood off Murray Avenue.
At the heart of the neighborhood, Northgate Park is located along Ellerbee Creek. It offers hiking trails and access to the greenway, a playground, picnic areas, tennis courts, and a dog park. Nearby Durham County Stadium hosts a variety of events, including Shaw University football games, carnivals, concerts, auto shows, and more. In addition to Northgate Mall, shoppers will appreciate a wide selection of shops and restaurants along Roxboro Street.

Property Ratings at The Oaks at Northgate
Structural problems are ignored - railings separating from the balcony, support beams are missing large pieces, etc. You do not get designated quiet hours so your neighbors can have their unsupervised demon spawn screaming and throwing garbage everywhere and it’s a-ok with management. Trash isn’t picked up often enough (you’d think all these apartments paying at least $10 for trash means it’ll be picked up more than once a week and you’d be wrong). Like getting deliveries? Too bad. GPS is unreliable and the signs on apartments/buildings are so old and worn, they can’t be read. The place is poorly lit, poorly maintained, and many apartments are basically death traps. They say they perform maintenance that they don’t do (glad wellington advisors paid so much to get these units checked, pity they weren’t all checked). Run. I regret moving here.

We’re sorry to hear that your experience has not been as positive as we would hope. We appreciate you taking the time to bring this to our attention. Our team works hard to keep our property looking clean and inviting and is happy to take a look at areas that might need extra attention. Please alert us of any area you believe should be checked out right away. We’re happy to take a look and find ways for improvement. We truly want each of our residents to enjoy their homes to the fullest and would appreciate the opportunity to speak with you further about your concerns.
Don't expect maintenance in a timely manner and don't expect management to respond quickly or with compassion. The office telephone rarely gets answered and messages you leave are returned even less. Usually I just fix any problems myself if I can. The noise level in the complex is horrible. Loud music all the time. Screaming kids constantly. Don't bother telling management.... they won't do anything. The walls of the apartments are paper thin - be prepared to share lives with your neighbors. The security lights are on during the day just fine. At night? Nope. How safe is that? Then there are the washer/dryer connections that were promised to be installed but never were with no explanation why. It's true. You get what you pay for.

I apologize that you had a bad experience with our community. We are doing our best to improve our management and property so that future residents do not have a similar experience. Most importantly, we are working on listening to past residents and I would like to get more feedback from you. Please email me at northgatemanager@wellingtonadvisors.com.
The staff here is very professional, friendly, and courteous. When they told me an apartment was available for rent, for myself and family it was. The staff was true on delivery time for availability. They just did not take my application fee and deposit money upfront, they also had an apartment readily available to rent. Unlike the other rental properties here in town that take your application and processing fee, then make you wait from a week to two weeks or more before you can move in. With this gap in time, these other rental properties don't care if you are homeless, out in the street, living in a hotel or nothing. They care less, once they get your money up front. Then when you ask for your money back, because they were slow with apartment availability, The other properties in town, tell you sorry, no refunds or apartments to rent here. They tell you lies just to get your money. I did not get that here at this complex, Just smiles, professionalism, and an available apartment to rent immediately as promised upon delivery. Great Job!!! Hats off to Ms. Venice, Santiago, et...al...Awesome Job!!!
The only thing you're paying for is the proximity to the freeway and shopping centers. There is no real playground and you wouldn't want your kids playing there anyways. The outside is not taken care of. They only keep up the area around the office for pictures to go up on rental websites. Not all of the apartments look like the ones in the pictures. They are old and falling apart. Most apartments don't have washer/dryer hookups and there isn't on-site laundry. They have community movie nights SOMETIMES but I promise you will not want to attend them with the kind of people that live around here. For almost $100 less per month in rent you can find a place that is truly renovated, has the outdoor areas well maintained, has on-site laundry, AND has a real amenity (like a pool or fitness room or BOTH). Don't waste your time or money here.
These apartments are OK for the price. They are fairly old, and most haven't been updated in decades with the exception of appliances. I have a fairly new refrigerator, and a brand new stove. My kitchen faucet and bathroom faucet are also new, however everything else is old. Especially my kitchen cabinets and counter top. They are literally from the 60's. They're just coming around to redo the roofs of each building. That was a long time waiting. There's no washer or dryer in the apartments, nor is there a laundry room for the complex. You have to drive to a regular public laundromat to wash your clothes. I've not had any problems here. The neighbors seem to leave you alone. There does seem to be a lot of Hispanic residents here. They never bothered me, and they do seem friendly to a point. The stores are real close by. The location of this place is it's best feature. I can go to just about any store within 5 to 10 minutes. The freeway is 2 minutes to get onto. The rent is very reasonable too. So that's why I give this place 3 stars. Also the office people are pretty nice too. They help you when you ask. So there's good things, and bad things. So 3 stars.
The thing that they need to change is renovations to all of the apts,it needs an upgraded and better residents that care about where they live. Overall it's ok considering the low price for rent but needs maintenance to clean the outside a little more to up keep the appearance.
