Property Ratings at The Oakwood
What can I say? Excellent plumbing and service. Really handles the big stuff. All while staying warm and cozy.
The oakwood is a beautiful historic building in a great location and community close to everything. The people that live here are all very friendly as well as the excellent management. Brand new elevator and intercom system was just put in and are great. 10/10
I’ve been living here for 2+ months and cannot imagine living anywhere else. Not only is my apartment fully renovated (I think they’re working to update more,) but I have skyline views of the city and am within walking distance to both Eastown and downtown. Management is chill, and maintenance is on top of everything. Throw in the fact that it’s existed as apartments since the 1920s *and* has a legit retro-themed restaurant in the basement; ??. In terms of living in GR, Oakwood Manor is where it’s at.
Management company – complete money grabbers. Leaking ceilings. Old windows with zero insulation. Often get jammed/break. I was once woken up by a bat flying around my bedroom . No air conditioning and can only have a window unit it you pay an extra $50/month. Uncontrollable Heat – either freezing or so hot that you have to have your windows open in the middle of winter. Sketchy Elevator – It’s the original elevator from the 1920’s. It doesn’t work half the time. People have gotten stuck in it. Need I say more? I hear they are replacing it, but it will be down for over 3 months, so beware if you are considering living on a higher floor. No security deposit back. I was even charged extra for “wall damage”. Wall damage being small holes used to hang things, which the lease says you can do. When raising these issues, the manager blames every single thing on the building being old. Pros: great location, pretty view, cool restaurant and awesome barre studio in the basement.
We lived in Oakwood manor for a little over a year and loved every day of it. Not only is it in the historic Heritage Hill neighborhood, close to great restaurants within walking distance on both Cherry and Wealthy, but also, the management team has been most accommodating to our needs, from being flexible with our move in schedule to addressing issues that arose in our apartment. The property management and maintenance staff is extremely friendly. The lobby is absolutely beautiful, and the two bedroom apartments are stunning, with original hard wood floor, bright natural lighting, large open dining-living room, and original terrazzo in both the bathrooms and first floor hallways. We were also able to participate in the community garden space, which was awesome to get fresh veggies in such a large apartment complex. Compared to pricing in the heritage hill area, Oakwood Manor definitely gives you more bang for your buck, especially since utilities, water, trash, and heating are all included in your rent, and if you are lucky enough to get a corner apartment like we had, you are in for a real treat! All in all, our experience at Oakwood is 5 star, two thumbs up. It's a great apartment complex with lots of history. If you are lucky enough to live there, I know you'll love it!
I have lived at Oakwood Manor for five years. I ride the bus and the bus stop is right in front of the building, an added plus. The building is close to where I worship, work, and close to Downtown. The staff at Oakwood is very helpful. I have never waited over 24 hours on a maintenance request and that is very helpful to me. They have taken great strides to update many things at Oakwood. It is the perfect place for me to live safely and comfortably.
Green Property Management refused to refund our security deposit when my wife and I bought a house and moved out. It had nothing to do with the condition of our apartment, they claimed we did not pay it. We have attempted to speak with management, but they are completely unresponsive. At this point, they have our money and don't care about making this situation right. I would recommend looking for housing elsewhere.
At Oakwood Manor apartments my experience so far has been great. I have had nothing but helpful experiences with the staff. The apartments are at great value, with Oakwood Manor you get a historic charm along with new amenities, free heat, free electric, 24 hour maintenance and impeccably beautiful community in east Grand Rapids. The best part of these Oakwood Manor apartments is the the location. The walk from downtown Grand Rapids is only 10 minutes. With being in school full time I needed a place where the noise was a minimum, they have a great noise policy where if someone is being obnoxiously loud or causing a problem they will take care of it. Maintenance is always on top of it, any issues that I have had they are great about resolving them. I do not intend on moving away. Oakwood Manor apartment building was built in the 1920's and will never lose its charm. The building has recently gained new management who are currently remodeling and making the building up to date yet still keeping its original historic roots. Please note that a majority of the residents are happy like me and do not intend to move, so if you want to live here you have to be on the lookout for the moment when a unit opens up.
This apartment complex is right in the heart of Grand Rapids that has a great management company running it right now. The landscaping is beautiful and the older look that it withholds brings you back a few years. I have lived here for 3 months and have been loving it so far. Highly recommend living here.
