Apartments for Rent Near Anderson University
While Anderson University was officially established in 1911 as Anderson College, it can trace its history back to the Johnson Female Seminary (and later Johnson College), which began in 1848. William Bullein Johnson, the college's first chancellor, died in 1862 -- soon after the start of the Civil War. Because of these two events, the university was forced to close. It remained closed until 1911, when it was reestablished by the South Carolina Baptist State Contention as Anderson College, named after Revolutionary War hero Robert Anderson. In 2006, the college became Anderson University.
Today, the 270-acre campus includes nine colleges. The wooded campus features attractive brick buildings, set along the terraced grounds. The Anderson Trojans compete in NCAA Division II as part of the South Atlantic Conference. Sports teams include basketball, baseball, golf, soccer, and tennis. Considered one of the country's fastest-growing regional colleges, Anderson University is home to the Johnny Mann Center for Commercial Music and the South Carolina School of the Arts.
The campus is located about a mile from Downtown Anderson, a picturesque and award-winning "All-America City." The Anderson Downtown Historic District is a terrific shopping and dining destination with brick-paved sidewalks and period lighting. While any apartment in Anderson will put you within minutes of the university, nearby streets include Ridgecrest Avenue, College Heights Road, Boulevard, Calhoun Drive, and Wilson Street.
