Property Ratings at Old Monterey Apartments
The only amenity is a pool which is 2 blocks away and can be used by anyone even if they don’t live in the apartments. I’ve had management/maintenance follow me around the neighborhood until they watched me enter my apartment. Maintenance flooded my apartment while I was on vacation then unintentionally told me when I returned, a week after it had happened. They also didn’t state they would be entering my apartment to fix they caused, someone literally exited my apartment leaving water spraying so much and so long it flood me as well as the apartment underneath, the apartment underneath had to call to report it before it was fixed and again no one called to inform it. These apartments are terrible, management as well as maintenance is disgusting. A drug dealer was living out of my neighbors apartment, management did nothing but send letters to the apartment, the person on the lease wasn’t able to do anything and management was called by multiple neighbors and still nothing was done. I could keep going and I’ve lived there for 8 months.

We are disheartened by your feedback about our community. Nothing is more important to our team than providing exceptional service to our residents, so we would like to speak with you directly about your comments regarding maintenance and our support. Please contact us at customerservice@edwardrose.com at your earliest convenience. Thank you.
Management doesn't care about you. They will blame everything on you even if it's prior to when you moved in. They never record your complaints and say "we can't address it if it's not reported." You have to provide picutre evidence and argue for 5 days before they acknowledge that there might be an issue. Go sleep under a bridge before you rent from here. Guarantee the bridge is better.

Will you please contact us at customerservice@edwardrose.com so we can learn more about your specific concerns and address them? Thank you for your time.
My problem is with the air conditioning. It can get up to 92 degrees from June to August and we call regularly trying to fix it. When the calls are actually taken seriously and then genuinely fix it, it only goes to a normal temperature for a day or two before it’s out again (like right now). I hope I can get my lawyer uncle to get us out of the lease so I can move as soon as possible, that’s why I’m on this site looking for a new place to live. The heat is a bit bearable once we got a fan, but the worst part is how we live on the third floor the “older” ac unit has to work harder to get to us, which I believe caused our electric bill to go from less than 120 a month to 209, even when we were keeping it at 72 degrees (we’re keeping it at 75 now, turning it off entirely is unbearable but I might have to consider it again). My cat is suffering a ton too. I can tell the heat bothers him. I’d hate to go through the trouble of moving (and likely losing our deposit, but I doubt the people who run this place would give it back even if the place was mint condition.) A lot of people claim there to be crime around here which I see sometimes, I’ve seen a guy get his car stolen, my boyfriend got his scooter stolen from here, and we just recently saw a cop investigating the apartment below us for a robbery but don’t have too many details there. The crime I can live with, the heat I cannot.

I have lived at Old Monterey Apartments for over a year in the Alpine style apartments and I have been very happy with the management and cleanliness of the complexes. The ground are well kept and landscaped weekly as well as deiced and shoveled during the winter. The maintenance is timely and professional, and the complex sprays for bugs every two weeks as well as when requested for insect inside your apartment. They recently replaced the parking lot lights to make the complex safer at night and they hire security to patrol the parking lots at night. The fixtures are slightly out dated as well as the kitchen appliances but the carpets are cleaned and the walls are painted before every apartment is rented. Unfortunately the area around the neighborhood is not great, there is a lot of crime and you tend to hear sirens often, but the complex management actively tries to make the complex safer. As far as utilities, you only pay for internet, electric and pet fees if you are in a pet friendly building. There are laundry rooms in every building but make sure you bring your own quarters. Overall good place to live for the price.

We went through 4 different co-signers paying $20 a piece and did not get qualified to rent here. We were told as co-signers the main applicant would get a refund on ours but he would still be out his money. Now I’m calling about refund and they say sorry not refundable. STAY AWAY FROM THESE CON ARTISTS!! Matter of fact Sharon was the person we talked to and must not have known she was on speaker because my wife and I both heard her say co-signers would get reimbursed!

Tony, we're very sorry for any misunderstandings regarding our application fees and processes. We only want to provide clear and concise information, but it seems you received some misinformation. We wish you the best on your apartment search and hope if you have any additional questions for us, you'll feel free to give us a call. Thank you and take care. Sincerely, Old Monterey Management
The apartment wasn’t bad, but the community is what drove me away. It seemed the cops were constantly having to stop by. The worst two accounts I witnessed were one being seeing a guy get beat with a baseball bat, and another was a woman screaming while getting dragged into an apartment by her hair. I witnessed many more, and fell victim when a neighbor broke into my apartment and yelled at me because I didn’t have meth. I’m glad I’m moved out now, but this community is far from safe for any resident. First red flag even should have been when during my first week there the news crew came out because there was a stabbing, or the bomb squad having to come out because they found explosives. 100% am telling everyone I know to avoid this complex.

Thank you for taking the time to review Old Monterey Apartments. We are truly sorry if you did not feel safe in your apartment. The bomb threat issue you refer to in your comments did occur off our property, however, the suspects did flee into an apartment at Old Monterey. The police were alerted and entered the apartment and found no bombs or bomb-making material. The residents involved were immediately evicted. We have no record of any of the other instances that you mention in your post. We have 24-hour stand-by emergency maintenance that our residents are encouraged to contact if they witness any illegal activity and we will take swift action to correct an issues if they are brought to our attention. Thank you. Old Monterey Management
It seems there are cop cars surrounding apartments every other week. Guns are typically out and sometimes swat shields are used. I wouldn't have chosen this place if I would have known, but the springfield police department seems to take care of the situations in a safe way. Everything else about the apartments are fine though, but I think it's a little overpriced.
If you don't want bugs don't move here!!! This place is terrible!!!! I will never live here again!!!!!! To top that off Kevin, the Assistant Manager is HUGE on harassing people and stalking them!!!!!! I have reported him several times and i have several neighbors who have reported him for harassment!!!! I hope this man loses his job!!!!
Unless your a drug dealer don't even consider it. Nothing but criminals and drug dealers. High crime rate. You run a good chance of getting mugged if you have to walk upstairs past 8 o'clock. Things will be broken upon move in which you will pay for when you move out. If you've got a death wish this is a ideal place.
I've lived in Old Monterey for a little over a year, and it's probably the best property for the price you can get in Springfield. The best part about it is the aesthetic. The exterior building design and landscape are great for people who are sick of apartments surrounded by parking lots and businesses and would prefer a more natural setting. The insides are pretty nice, too, but even the biggest single unit - the Alpine - is big enough for one person but feels really cramped for two. The worst thing are the fees. Though the upfront price looks impressively affordable, you have to get internet and/or cable through their provider, Bloom Broadband. A decent internet package is an extra $51 a month (or was when I signed my lease), and you have to provide your own router/modem. And God help you if you overstay your lease and have to pay on a month-to-month basis. My month-to-month rent on the single bedroom Alpine style went up by about $100. They also charge you for certain upgrades in your apartment such as whether or not your unit has a dishwasher or a sliding glass door. Just getting the amenities that would be a given at other places can make it much more expensive than it looks at first. Also, don't rely on much from maintenance services. Most of my requests were immediately followed up on, but though they would come out and inspect the problem, they never actually fixed anything. Thankfully the problems weren't too serious - my fridge leaked about once a week, and my screen door was broken - but it was still annoying to have them ignored. As in any apartment complex, there can be good neighbors or bad neighbors. Mine weren't bad, and everything was quiet for the most part. There is no laundry in unit, and I had a load of clothes stolen once even though you need a key to get into the laundry room, which implies it was someone who lived there. I'm not sure how common that is there. Overall it was a good place to live: just think carefully about what extra costs you're willing to pay, and watch out for laundry thieves.
very beautiful place inside and out. the buildings are keep in very nice condition and it is a very reasonable price for college students. there are plenty of parking spaces available to use. gas is included which saves a lot of money for a college student like me. enjoy living there and the neighbors.
I really enjoy these apartments. The only complaint is that you have to use their internet company. This I feel is wrong.
These apartments are very quiet and have beautiful grounds. There are picnic table spots with grills under the huge shade trees. The apartments are great starter apartments. They are a little small but they have alot of storage space. If youre an avid cook this is probably not the place for you. The kitchen is very tiny but it has a very large pantry. Only on person can fit without someone getting in the way. Other than that the bedrooms are a decent size for a single family.
This is a nice little apartment complex for the money in a good part of town close to everything. The best part is gas and water are paid for so the price of rent is really reasonable. I call this the best buy for Springfield. It is by no means perfect and I would like to see the place hire security because it doesn't seem the safest though I've never had any problems I do worry about my wife sometimes.
Nice size apartment with comfortable size bedrooms. Galley kitchen could use updating, however, it's very cute. Plenty of cabinet space with large storage closet and pantry. Small bathroom. Balcony with room for plants, seating. Beautiful, well maintained grounds with trees and swimming pool. Quiet neighborhood close to grocery shopping, mall, medical services, restaurants. Cable tv, high speed Internet available. Cats allowed. I have lived here for 3 years.
I love the Old Monterey apartments! The staff is really nice and the maintenance staff in particular work with you 24/7 and for any emergency. They are overall a great value and heating in the winter is free! The only reason we are moving out is because they don't allow dogs and I want to get a puppy. :)
