Wedged between the Savannah River and Watkins Street and extending from Gordon Highway to E Boundary, Old Town (or Olde Town) is a beautiful residential neighborhood with a long history. Old Town is actually on the National Register of Historic Places -- as the "Pinched Gut District." That odd name is derived from the gut-pinching corsets favored by Southern Belles in the 19th century. The elegant, stately (and sometimes brightly-painted) homes of Old Town date back to the late 1800s.
A stroll along Broad Street or Greene Street is like walking through time. The rows of historic homes are separated by tree-filled medians, some with benches and period lighting. A rental home in Old Town will place you on the east side of downtown, just minutes from the city's biggest attractions. Follow Broad Street to visit the Augusta Riverwalk, the Augusta Convention Center, and the Augusta Museum of History. The James Brown Arena is located just south of Greene Street.

Only stayed because I'm too busy to look elsewhere.
Moved in mid February, 2020 3/28 - a/c failed. 3/29 - Told maintenance had fixed a/c. 4/6 - a/c failed. 5/4 - a/c failed 5/5 - Window unit installed. Was never able to cool the apartment when the outdoor temp reached 75°. The unit was facing the street with vertical blinds. Had to put in additional blinds to give myself privacy. 7/1 - 78° indoors with all a/c on max power. 7/2 - Office lost their key when they tried to fix my a/c 7/6 - Returned from a vacation and was locked out of my apartment. Had to wait for a maintenance man to drive in from Columbia to let me in. 7/14 - 78° indoors with all a/c on max power. 8/10 - Roach infestation, lost appliances due to being full of bugs. Not reimbursed. Stopped finding roaches mid October. 2/25 - Increased my rent by $75 if I signed a new lease, $100 month-to-month. 5/24 - a/c has been inoperable for over a year, gave up on it getting fixed. 10/26 - Office lost their key again. 11/8 - Did not find new key in mailbox as requested. Office claims they placed it there, I magically found it after I returned from work the next evening. Did not reimburse my hotel stay. Office claims I dropped the key. Requested no one enter my apartment without my presence. Office cited a lease agreement. 12/3 - Given notice to vacate by 1/31 due to the sale of the property. Evicted during the holiday season. 12/28 - Found my window unit removed. No a/c a day before the outdoor temp was to be 78°. Indoor temp was 5° hotter than outdoors. 12/29 - Office claims Maintenance found heat running. Thermostat was set on heat, fan was on, but wasn't running heat due to it being hotter than the thermostat setting. Fan was recirculating the ambient air like a convection oven. Office will not reinstall the window unit.
