West Ashley sits within the city of Charleston and is west of the Ashley River, hence its name, and is the birthplace of Hootie & the Blowfish’s frontman, Darius Rucker. Lined with mossy oaks, the Ashley and Stono Rivers border West Ashley, creating the breathtaking scenery for which Charleston is known. West Ashley residents enjoy close proximity to the area's only indoor mall, the Citadel Mall, and a large number of big-box stores.
Situated seven miles due west of Downtown Charleston, residents can plan on a 15- to 30-minute drive, depending on traffic, to take in all downtown has to offer. Nearby Interstate 526, which feeds directly into Charleston’s Interstate Highway 26, gives residents a fast and easy route in and out of area. Mid- to late-1900s ranch-style homes characterize the housing in outer West Ashley, but neighborhoods built in the 2000s also sprinkle the area.

I was told that due to the corona virus, they are doing virtual tours only. I take the tour on line with the leasing officer walking me through the apartment. It’s a nice apartment with an upgraded kitchen (grey tile backsplash, laminate marble countertops, built in microwave, etc). At the beginning of the tour, the leasing agent tells me that “this is the exact unit I will be getting.” At the end of the tour, she asks what I liked, and I specified that I liked aspects of the kitchen. Cut to a week later, I’ve filled out the paperwork, and started moving in. When I arrive at my apartment for the first time in person, it is not the one I was shown/told I would be getting. It is the same layout, but with a completely different, not updated kitchen (completely different non tile backsplash, original countertops stained from use, and no microwave). I email the leasing agent saying that this is not the apartment I was shown, and to advise on how it this will be remedied. She responds by saying that she told me during the tour that I would not be getting one of the recently remodeled units, and that my unit would not have a microwave. This is an outright lie, and now I am overpaying for the same unit other people in the building have that are nicer than mine. They have nice renovated units, but you are not guaranteed that you will be getting one of those. Also, after this whole experience, I do not feel that the staff here is trustworthy. TLDR: I was shown an apartment and told it was the exact apartment I’d be getting. When I moved in, it was a worse version of what I was shown.

I'm warning you do not move here. Make sure you look at the reviews in the last 8 months. And then do you research on Radco. I've lived here since last April and things started falling apart as soon as Radco got here. And watch out for fake 5 star reviews from people who have never actually lived here.

A few months ago this was the Monument Square Apartments. It was just fine. Rent was good. Place was peaceful. When there were issues they were quickly taken care off. Radco took over and it has been a nightmare. Random eviction notices. Shoddy work on"Improvements". Noise. Higher rent (that you have to pay to pay for since they've gone paperless now. They dont take checks. They have you pay 10 bucks online to pay them rent. Dont move here. You can do better.

This complex has a bed bug infestation, they are spreading from unit to unit through the electrical outlets & nothing is being done about it. They do not take care of anything.

I have been living here for a year and a half. Monument truly offers a community feel, my neighbors couldn't be friendlier! We have a community garden that I especially love in the summer! The gas grills are also a great addition, I have made many dinners on them! Fire pits are awesome as well! Great place to call home!

My experience at Monument Square has been so wonderful! When I initially moved in, the new management team had just finished renovating my unit and the property grounds. I renewed to stay another year because the apartment is spacious and quiet, the grounds are resort like, and the pool is relaxing. I enjoy socializing with my neighbors and always get prompt responses from the Management Team! Oh and I forgot to mention the free membership at Chucktown Fitness! It's so convenient! I highly recommend this property to anyone, you can't beat the price and location!

I've lived here over a year now, and absolutely love it!! Not only can you not beat the location, but the staff is soo wonderful!!! I know if I have any sort of problem, Erin or Bart and the maintenance guys will be on it right away! The pool and courtyard are so nice, and the sense of community amongst the residents all make for it to be such a great place to live!
I have lived here for over a year and loved every single part of the community. The staff always goes above and beyond and I have made wonderful friends with my neighbors. I love the hammocks and especially the grill station. My dog also loves his home here.
I loved living here from January 2014 up until July 2015. The new management took over in July 2015. Prior to that, the apartments were called Charleston Arms and were managed by AMCS property management. AMCS was awesome. They did extermination every other month without fail, if there was a maintenance issue, it was ALWAYS fixed within 24 hours, and the office staff was friendly, helpful and very attentive to tenants needs. They had a monthly newsletter that informed tenants of upcoming events. The new management was horrible. I can't even tell you one of the new staff's names because they NEVER introduced themselves formally, nor did they amend my lease to state that I was now renting from their company. They lost my rent payment for July and August(luckily I had proof that I had dropped it off there), they came into my apartment without notice and one of the maintenance guys rummaged through my belongings. They never even left a notice informing me that someone had come into my apartment and when I called to report my belongingson being touched, only then did they say they came there to fix a leak. They were so nonchalant about any concerns. It was a total 360 from what I was accustomed to with the previous management. For that reason, I moved. I fully intended on staying there for years to come when AMCS was managing the property but the new company left a bad taste in my mouth and I was extremely disappointed in their service. From what I see in the other reviews, I was smart to leave.

Oh, where to begin? The courtyard they say is "so lush" looks like it has flooded out and never recovered. The car wash area is a house. That's it. It took them three weeks to fix a a/c problem which resulted in water leaks to the people that live below us and a $200 electric bill for us. When we moved down here, we expected one rate, and when we got here, we where hit with a much higher one, and since we had no where else to go, we were stuck. There is only one elevator in this bldg and it reeks. They turn off the water for "repairs" and don't bother to give proper notice half the time. The turnover rate for the maintenance staff is unreal. The higher ups don't communicate with the office staff (and the office staff will be the first to tell you that.) My husband and I cannot wait to move, and we haven't been here 3 months.

I have lived here for 6 months and am extremely disappointed. Management is not very consistent with dealing with tenants. When it comes to the important things, like bug extermination and leaks, they take for ever to fix the issue and go the cheapest route possible. The employee turn over is high. Communication with tenants is abysmal. The complex is under construction and the water was turned off for 5 hours today, without giving proper notice to half of the complex. The water is still not on and the property manager left the site without making sure everyone had water. I am now dealing with a nice man who does not work for this property and who is trying his best to fix our water.

Used to be a great place to live. New management doesn't keep the premises clean, doesn't keep us informed. Place is being overrun by roaches and indifferent management.
