Situated along the Raccoon River, Southwestern Hills is a neighborhood less than five miles west of Downtown Des Moines. The western portion of the neighborhood is made up of wide open spaces, while the eastern section of town holds modern amenities. The Des Moines International Airport is situated in the southeastern corner of town, and restaurants, grocers, and more shops can be found along the eastern border of town, Fleur Drive. Residents also have the option to travel a few minutes east to get to the high-quality eateries and shops in Downtown Des Moines. In town, outdoor recreation is abundant thanks to the parks and trails that wind along the river. The central parts of the neighborhood consist of residential areas, and renters will find an array of modern, affordably priced apartments.

I lived here for nearly four years and couldn't have been more pleased with my experience! The only reason I moved out is because I bought my first home, otherwise I would have happily lived there for longer. I lived in a 2 bedroom apartment on first floor -- maintenance was incredibly courteous and prompt and the office staff was always approachable. I lived by myself and never had any concerns about safety in this area. Moreover, though, the community is what makes this complex great -- everyone is extremely friendly and what's appealing is that the community is smaller than most nearby apartment complexes. Several tenants have been there for 10+ years. I have two dogs and not once did anyone have an issue with them, despite them barking at passerbys :) -- a very dog-friendly community for sure! Additionally, the location is stellar -- if you have pets or like to go for runs, Waterworks is right across the street and I'd bike through it with no concerns late at night. If you bike, Neal Smith Trail is right there. Convenient location to all downtown activities via the bike path. I wish I could take my house and put it at this location! I miss living here. :)

I’ve been living here for quite some time, I have nothing bad to say so far. The staff itself is friendly especially the current manager Kendra. She’s been attentive and wonderful to work with, the amenities are typical of any older complex but every gets the job done. Neighbors are quiet and friendly, dog friendly environment and I’d recommend anyone to come spend their time here, I’ll be here for a few more years to come. Tyler
This apartment complex is amazing. I’ve lived in multiple apartments and I’m mad I didn’t find this one sooner lol. The manager are the sweetest m and if you have any questions they will help you in a heart beat. Maintenance is on their A game, if you put in a request they are done before you know it. The area is quieter and everybody was lives here that I’ve met are just so friendly and easy to get along with. I also have a dog so having the dog park is just awesome for her to run around since she never stops lol But if you are considering here definitely do it!
I've been here for about 6 months now, and all my experiences have been positive. Management is super friendly. Things get fixed quickly. My neighbors are kind. There are cute dogs everywhere! The pool was nice in the summer. Jethros and Caseys are right next door, which is convenient. The real winner is Water Works park! On my lunch breaks, I can just go and hammock since its so close. Getting to be around nature while only a bike ride from downtown, how much better can it get?

This is a great place to live. I've been here 16 years and with Broadmoor apts for 26. The staff is friendly, always willing to help out with every little detail even to help you carry things up the steps. Maintenance requests are quickly responded to, grounds and hallways are kept clean. Love the secured entrances and having washer & dryer in my apt. Also love the fact that I have my own workout place in the complex without having to pay gym membership. Totally recommend this place to anyone looking for a new place to live!
My Husband and I have lived in A LOT of places. Because of college, graduating from college, and career changes we have lived in a combined 10 places in 4 years. These apartments were by far our favorite place to live. The management staff was amazing and responsive and new us by name when we passed each other in the parking lots. The maintenance staff was AMAZING and kind and when I was around would take the time to explain to me what was wrong, how to tell by sight what the problem was, and how they would fix it — all because I mentioned that I liked to learn about handy work. The only reason we moved was because of financial hardship. Six months into a lease in our new place and my husband and I talk about moving back to this building as soon as possible.

I have lived here for about a year and a half, and I love it. I had originally only planned to be here for a few months, but that changed. The staff are all great. They take the time to get to know you, and genuinely care about what is going on in your life. The maintenance is responsive, and friendly. The community is friendly here too, which is a nice perk; it's always a pleasure to meet the new residents at our community gatherings throughout the year. It's also very quite; I was genuinely surprised by how quite it is inside the apartments. Check it out!
