Property Ratings at Park West
We've been living here for almost a year and there is always something to be fixed and it takes them ages to come and fix, the bathtub is chipping and the stove was scratched, they don't fix the major issues within reasonable time, you make rent payment arrangement cause something comes up and right away they start talking about eviction. They never answer the phone and they'll get back to you when they feel like it. If your asking a for a tour, make sure you get a tour, cause the pictures on the website are not what you are walking into.
My car was stolen off the property lot but they have cameras that don’t work and security booths that are vacant. After I asked to leave the lease, maintenance entered my home without my permission while I was not there. They left a mud pile of dirt by my radiators. They left all my lights on as well as my heat on 90 degrees. They unplugged my fire alarm and disconnected cameras. They left metal in my carpet as well as dirt in my carpet as well.
The impression that you get from the pictures of this place is that it is a fairly new complex with modern, renovated units. I went to view a unit at Park West Apartments and the unit itself looked nice enough (although it did not look as modern as in the pictures). The thing that ruined this place for me was the complex itself. This place is almost unrecognizable compared to the pictures. Upon pulling into the lot, I could instantly tell this complex looked extremely sketchy. I would say a majority of the cars in the lot had Illinois plates, the landscaping was unkempt, and the outside of the buildings looked like they all needed repairs. It looked like a very seedy area. I have since found out that there have been multiple shootings and murders in this complex. Definitely avoid this place.
My actual apartment is nice u love it.. i just dont like the outside i feel they need to do better at landscaping, leaves , trash everywhere.. the dumpsters they leave on the corners thats nasty but other than that the actual place is nice mini repairs like pant outside the buildings they just need a massive clean outside..

The property was a great place when I visited. Clean and friendly fellow employees & residents around it. My current leasing agent was as helpful & professional as she can be for me; which I appreciate so dearly. Helping me out with all the questions I may had, that I was curious of. Just all around great leasing agent / good at what she does. ( Highly Recommend ) Loving the property I am moving into, did the tour it was nice. Just so excited to be a future Park West Apartments resident.

I lived here for 4 years the rent goes up $100 a year, they never open the pool on time and close it early. I moved here with my son and he hates it, but they take so much rent and offer nothing to do it's completely boring here. Lots of gangs, loud music, weed, and broken glass if that's your thing.

The worst apartment living ever. Maintenance and grounds are lazy. Property management is horrible and unprofessional along with the apartment being over priced. No real security on site 24/7. Terrible mistake I made renting here.

Words of advice: Make sure you view apartment before signing lease. Was in shock when it looked way different then model I was shown. Paid for black appliances. The kitchen has old looking drawers and painted countertops .The bathroom floor had old tile that was dirty . No access to amenities if past closing time and the tennis court is owned by a separate company. Their gym looks 100x better then our gym , which is closed. This place is not worth the price.

I’ve been here since 8/2018 I’m ready to move just looking for an affordable apartment, the residents make this a nightmare and management doesn’t give a dn I’ve never been late paying and I expect more. I have to clean someone else’s dog crap from the inside hallway . This valet living is a joke don’t fall for it

DO NOT MOVE HERE I have multiple submitted complaints that have not been resolved. My first unanswered complaint involves bait and switch in which we were shown an apartment with a microwave installed above the stove and was told a garbage disposal and intercom would be available. When we moved in the microwave was gone, there was no garbage disposal and the intercom has yet to be installed after a year has passed. I went to the office and spoke to the Office Manager who claimed she will look into it and never got back to me. Second complaint involved utility switch over where I now pay electricity since January however Park West charged us for electricity as well and nothing has been done about it. Third complaint, we have consistently been charged amenity fees when earlier this year there were none. Fourth complaint involves a routine apartment check where maintenance checked outlets and alarms and he noted that we had two defective outlets as well as a leaky faucet (which is now worse)...they have not returned for repairs. Fifth complaint, we called maintenance twice for water leaking from the unit above as well as gas smell from the stove and a bad air conditioner. Maintenance came for the leak, poked a hole in the ceiling and never returned. They also claim that someone called both occupants of this unit for air conditioner service yet neither of us received a call for the air conditioner or the stove. Sixth complaint, we told the office AGAIN about our leaky faucet after lease was re signed and was told someone would be here that day yet, once again no one showed. I've spoken to the same office manager who never got back to me regarding the microwave and she continues to ignore our needs. The hallway is no longer routinely cleaned and is dirty.
its terrible ill never move back. my boyfriend car got stolen , the raccoons are terrible and never gave back the deposit. maintenance never come, over priced!
I live in a 2 bedroom apartment. Pros: -Forest area outside is beautiful. Lots of birds! -Apartments are spacious and balconies are generous. -Apartments themselves are quiet. Unless you're by your door exiting into the apartment hallway, you don't hear your neighbors Cons: -Water is turned on and off repeatedly for maintenance. For a day or so, you have to boil your water -The floodlight outside of our apartment building does not go on until WELL after dark. -Car has been broken into (I'm not the only one). -Apartment buildings themselves smell like weed CONSTANTLY. Side note: don't bother opening your windows during the summer. Neighbors are almost always smoking weed and acting like children. -Neighbors are either quiet or selling drugs/buying outside in parking lots almost every day -Two buildings have burned down in the past four or so months. We are being sent emails about "the new Fitness Center" nearly every day, but nothing about "hey don't worry. We're making sure YOURS won't burn down!" -A shooting/death occurred recently when a drug deal went bad in one of the parking lots -This is NOT a security booth community. There is NO ONE at the booth which leads to the apartment entrance. Maybe once in a great while there is. One time I saw him. He just said "hi". Didn't have the gate down, just reading a magazine. -The door to our building DOES NOT LOCK. Thanks, Park West! I LOVE to feel unsafe in my own home. -Hallway entrance to building is always almost dirty. Neighbors won't or cannot manage to clean up after themselves. -The areas to dispose trash are filled with discarded garbage around the bin instead of in it. High quality tenants!
This is my 2nd apartment here. One place had a leak and the next place have moisture in the apartment coming from next door. The next tenant will have the same problem or worse, i believe mold gross if walls/baseboards absorb water. They just dried the wall and going to paint over it. If you dont want a flood or leaks dont come here.
I have not been a tenant long, but I am very unhappy with this place. The office staff is very dismissive, no concern. The people at the front desk are very nice so this takes nothing away from them. From the beginning things were handled unprofessionally on my behalf. I began my renting process with one leasing agent. I was promised phone calls that I never received to find out that this agent no longer worked for the complex. I was told multiple different prices for rent on different occasions. I finally received a move in date and paid all fees. Move in day I go to receive the keys and the apartment they were giving me was complete TRASH. Nothing was cleaned, there were dirt stains all over the carpet. The apartment had not been cleaned and they were gonna give me that place! I refused to settle for that. It took a while, but they gave me another unit in a different building which was supposed to belong to someone else who would be soon moving in. Fast forward to now. I have mice. Maintenance has come and said they have plugged holes. More mice come and they plug more holes. I have called the office multiple times and have been given the run around and everyone seems so unconcerned. Lorie the maintenance manager is very rude and disrespectful. I want to know how she would want to live with mice. But with her being the manager she probably don’t live in this rat infested place. I do not live nasty so the building must be infested, but no one seems to be concerned except for me. They shut the water off with no notice in the morning while ppl have to get ready for work just disrespectful and I come home today and here we find mouse number 10. Now I have to act out of character because it seems as if that’s the only way to get results. At the end of the day do not sign a lease for this place unless you are ok with dealing with hassles each time you have an issue.
This apartment already has a lawsuit going against them because they treat their tenants so bad! If you live there. I suggest you show up this Wednesday at 8:30 downtown Gary. This will be your chance to be heard and put these people in their place!!
How long does it take to send the alleged "housekeeping" to do their job? The New Manager told me on July 5th I am sending them now. I guess NOW has not come because now it has been 5 (five) weeks and housekeeping still has not shown up and the hallway is still a HOT MESS!!! YES, new people moved in last night!!!! WOW really.... I pay my rent on time all I asked is that you keep up your end of the bargain. That is all!! TRUST if this rent is not on time.. I have seen notices on the door for tenants WHO did not comply. ParkWest is quick to put their tenants on BLAST. Let's not speak of the grounds keeping.
I have been a resident here now for about 4 years. I will admit when I call the response is good. I am disappointed in the fact they alleged all of the apartment would have new roofing. I noticed it's only on the front apartments. I noticed that they are comfortable collecting amenities fees yet all residents can't benefit from the clubhouse amenities ie the indoor pool, let alone the outside pool because it was closed all last summer nor the billiards per the "new owners" changed the hours; they could have considered later hours on the weekend to accommodate those who work during the week 40 miles away. I work in corporate America where we HAVE to answer the phones; there is no way ParkWest is so busy with complaints; maybe they are that they can't answer the phone ALL DAY!!!! The entry doors need to be replaced, the concrete outside needs to be replaced. Please remove the eyesore of the intercom system from the building what is the purpose it does not work. Again my building is decent the tenants but the upgrades are needed. I hope you will read this review Parkwest and make some adjustments. People ask would I recommend living here it's hard to say yes! FYI.

Also, we invite you to stop in at our offices anytime you are faced with an issue regarding your home – we’re here to do what we can to make you a satisfied resident. Regards, Park West Management.
Please do not move here! Since living here, I have had a plethora of issues. Whenever you call the maintenance hotline (outside of normal business hours) the call center tells you “if this is a non-emergency issue, you will be charged $100). I told the agent that I pressed “2” for non-emergency and you are telling me if you submit my request(which was for them to fix the communal washer/dryer) that I will be charged $100? Plus, I did call maintenance at least 5 or more times this past winter because my heat was not working at all and they gave me the same line but that was an emergency because I shouldn’t have to live in cold because of a previous issue. On top of that, if you don’t live in the apartments closer to the office, the grounds are trash. I mean it’s literally a trash haven outside. The amount of money that is paid to live here, isn’t at all worth the hassle they give you for fixing things in “their” building
I have had nothing but problems since the day i moved in. The tour is extremely deceiving and we were told false information. Trying to get a maintenance issue fixed is an absolute joke. The staff is rude and never has answers to questions. We will not renew our lease once the year is up.
I have lived here for 14 years since Park West has taken over many changes have occurred for the better. I love the way they have been remodeling each apartments with new stove, refrigerator, Dish washer, new floors & maintenance has gotten better also with quicker services when needed. The only thing I would also like them to do is set up surveillance camera from the roof tops in the parking lot to protect our vehicles from anyone doing damage to our properties & to catch those people that come into our complex to throw their garbage out into our garbage bends because they don't want to pay for their garbage to be picked up, it cause our garbage bends to overflow. I also want to add either locks or cameras in the laundry rooms to protect us ladies from being in there on are own & that no one will damage our clothing with adding clorox or bleach to our color clothing or stealing our clothes. I understand it takes time & effort from the community to stick together to keep our complex well. I'm just giving a clue for thing that need to be addressed. Other then that Park West has been improving very much & I thank them for that.
Was not allowed to see my apartment before I moved in because it was being cleaned which delayed my moving in. Once inside the apartment the carpet was wet, there were stains everywhere and after vacuuming once the carpet began ripping. The front door to my building is always broken. Maintenance comes and goes as they please regardless if you are home or not (even came home to my door not closed all of the way twice) yet things in the apartment are still not repaired. I can never get anyone on the phone and when I go to speak with someone at the leasing office, my problems are ignored and made unimportant because they do not want me to affect people that are looking to lease here. Do not move here it’s unproffessional and there are always problems without solutions.
Office personnel are disrespectful to tenants, maintenance takes forever to come repair things in apartments, repairs are rarely completed, no one answers phone in leasing office nor do they return phone calls, there are always unexpected charges on bill and when questioned they say they will return your call (which they do not). I am completely unsatisfied with Park West Apartments and regret signing a 12 month lease. Do not move here because although it may look nice, it is completely different after you sign your lease. Please do not listen to these fake reviews.
Very nice and friendly staff. And also to mention, the fitness center and swimming pool are the absolute BEST! I made the right decision by choosing this place!
I am very happy to have seen these positive reviews before I move in. I remember when I went to look at the apartment it was very nice and there were too many amenities to count. The entire staff was very friendly and ACTUALLY OFFER REFRESHMENTS! In the office they make popcorn that is delicious, my little brother and I really enjoyed it. I am looking forward to moving in next month!
This is the worst apartment complex, they have bed bugs, roaches and ants. They make you pay for getting your apartment sprayed for bed bugs 300 or more and i still have them. The apartments are old and not worth 855 after they add all the extras you will never see 855. KEEP LOOKING! I was very disappointed when i saw my apartment they said i couldnt see it cause they were fixing it up but i dont see anything nrw they have done
I'm a new tenant and have had a few issues already. There was a leak coming from my ceiling. A maintenance guy came out the night I reported it and poked holes in my ceiling to keep the water dripping so that the ceiling wouldn't fall in (understandable). After that night I was promised a call back the next morning for resolve because there was no one available to come out and rectify the situation in the middle of the night, no one reached out to me. It's always hard to get someone on the phone. There's been no follow up on the situation after me calling every other day for a week. Also I was supposed to have the new appliances when I moved in, since I did not have that Diana in the office made sure they switched out my appliances. When I came home there was a giant grease dirt spot on my living room carpet from when they move the appliances out. I was told that maintenance would come in and reclean the carpet....still after calling every other day for a week there has been no resolve. It's just kind of disheartening that a new resident would be blown to the side like this. I just wish that professionalism was being exhibited in regards to the maintenance staff. It's no fun constantly getting the run around as a paying new resident. Other than that this place is an ok place to live so far, it would be better if they focused on professionalism in ALL areas.
We're in the process of moving into park west apartments and are very EXCITED! My fiance and I just moved here to Indiana from Texas and he was referred by one of his coworkers that lives there. After visiting the property we were in complete awe! They have so many swimming pools and other ammenities, it reminds me of the apartment we had back home.
I really like my apartment here! My wife and I have lived here for almost a year now. We enjoy the indoor and outdoor swimming pools and workout center almost daily. The rent is affordable, especially considering what all comes along with the apartment. We worked with an agent by the name of Darcelle. She was very helpful and knowledgeable. I believe we made an excellent choice!
Miriam is extremely professional and helpful. I am blessed to have worked with her and Stephanie on finding an apartment. They are the reason I selected the the Park West Apartments!
I moved in in Dec. 2017 and worked with Darcel. Darcel was very courteous and professional and made my move in experience pleasantl. My apartment is very spacious and exactly what I asked for. I would recommend this apartment community to anyone who is looking for affordable living w/the amount of amenities Park West Apartments has to offer.

I was referred by my business partner to check out Park West Apartments for corporate housing when I relocated from Florida. The staff and the manager were so friendly and welcoming from my very first visit. I think the community is very nice and tranquil as well. I love my apartment, and I haven’t even spent my first night there yet. I would recommend that anyone looking for an apartment in the East Chicago or Griffith area contact Miriam Jeeninga. She will definitely help you find more than just an apartment but a place to call home. - J Gray, New Resident
My issues regarding the apartment was addressed. I’m happy with the outcome.
I had a great experience at this place, Diana was so nice and helped me and my boyfriend with everything. The apartments are so nice and spacious I love it.
Just moved in and I really like the place. Its close to my job in Dyer and Stephanie really helped make the move in process quick and simple.
After moving into my apartment from a 4 bedroom house, my leasing person Diana made my move in very easy, I was a little nervous about moving into an apartment, but I am loving it.
The customer service at Park West is awesome! The staff in the office is very friendly and helpful, and quick to help me with whatever I need. Alicia at the office is always happy and a joy to work with.
