Part of New Orleans' 16th Ward, Gert Town is more of a "college town." This is the location of Xavier University, a private liberal arts college opened by the Catholic Church in 1915. This prestigious, historically black university ranks as one of the nation's best.
Gert Town extends west of I-10 between B.W. Cooper to the south and Holly Grove to the north. It loosely follows Earhart Boulevard on the west end. The neighborhood has a unique street pattern, with the streets crossing and curving like the currents of the river. Since this was the swampy "back end" of New Orleans, most streets stopped before reaching Gert Town, which was uninhabited. Later, when canals helped to drain this low-lying area, Gert Town became a railroad hub. The roads were extended into Gert Town from other areas, often running into each other and creating the odd flow.
Today, Gert Town is a dynamic community located about four miles northwest of the French Quarter.

Property Ratings at Parkway Apartments
loud music blasting, can't access amenities like the courtyard and community room as they lock the access to both. smells like weed everywhere, floors very dirty. Very overpriced college dormitory
When you shop around it seems like everyone's prices have gone up. Still, Parkway seemed to be the best value for our money considering a parking spot is included in your rent. They also don't charge you an administrative fee when applying. I read the reviews before touring and it really seems like the management has gotten a lot better since 2020. Halls were clean, courtyard was quiet, and the guy who toured me was super friendly. My boyfriend & I have some other places to tour before we make a final decision.
I moved my daughter in a few weeks ago. I have to admit as a parent I wanted to make sure she was in a safe and comfortable environment. Gladys and Travis went far and beyond to make me feel secure. Gladys gave us her cellphone number just in we couldn't reach our daughter for any reason. The hallways and the apartment was in excellent condition.
The apartment complex looked very nice during the tour. After a few months of living here, it was clear where quality was skipped. Crown molding was not put in a room in my apartment, all the caulking began cracking and separating from its surfaces, and drywall seams began to split. Also, the fire alarm system goes off at least once a month, never with a clear cause, and sometimes at all hours of the night! Management has improved in addressing common areas issues and cleanliness, but this doesn’t remedy the quality and fire alarm issues.
I love this place. We moved in Jan and def plan on renewing. Prettiest place I've ever lived in.
High recommend this place? Be aware you will deal with more than 100 pigs every weekends from outside & tenants. This is only one night. Wait until you see the rest. Welcome.
Hallways are literally unacceptable, not sure why they don’t realize that they need to hire someone to clean them everyday or at least 3 times a week. The elevators are equally as bad. Also not the most secure place given that anybody can get in the garage and go up the elevator. Very nice features in the apartment but a few management issues.
I don’t know where to start. This property, or maybe I should say the management of it is horrible. We were excited to move in since it’s a newer complex until we realized how quickly and cheaply everything was put together. There are skid marks on the floor with dirt that won’t come up. Undone finishings everywhere in the apartment. The lights keep going out. The air condition blows hot. We make a maintenance request and sometimes the maintenance guy doesn’t show up. Dogs have pissed on our door. No one came to clean that up. The complex promises a smoke free and drama free environment yet there is rowdiness and there have been fights (from younger college student residents), especially on the weekends. The hallways are filled with the smell of weed smoke every day. Speaking of the hallways, they are never clean! The elevators neither. The trash chute is like a homeless ally. Honestly I’m totally disappointed for the amount of money we pay. We won’t be renewing the lease here.
This apartment complex is so nasty. The resident don’t put their trash in the trash chutes. The hallway fools and elevators stay nasty and smell like dog. Their is no daily cleaning or the elevators or hallways. Also their are bugs always flying around inside and coming into the apartment.
You can literally hear everything your neighbors are saying and doing. The front doors you can see right under them making it easy for anything to come under them. Also the hallway floors like a previous review said are always nasty including the trash chute area.
This apartment complex is new and nice but the elevators and hallways are so filthy. I'm unsure why they don't have a team to come through and sweep and mop the floors in the building but for it to be a new complex its definitely a big turn off. They even has skit marks in the walls in the hallway from where the construction team or residents moving in may have bumped the wall and its so noticeable. If they did a better job at this the apartments would definitely be rated a 5 stars.
