Johnson City -- home to East Tennessee State University -- has an active, vibrant downtown. Its historic buildings are filled with unique shops and restaurants, and Founders Park is a perfect place for an afternoon picnic. The nearby hiking trails and parks allow Downtown JC residents to get out and explore. It's an artistic neighborhood, home to places like the Tipton Gallery and the Nelson Fine Arts Center. The Hands On! Regional Museum is a terrific destination for all ages, while East Tennessee State University's Reece Museum explores the history of the Appalachian region.
With a variety of festivals and events held year-round, there's always something happening in Downtown Johnson City. April brings the Thirsty Orange Brew Extravaganza, while the Blue Plum Festival in June celebrates live music. During the summer and fall, Founders After 5 is a free music series held at the amphitheater at Founders Park.

Property Ratings at Paxton Place
Paxton place is poorly managed and kept up with. This place has gone very downhill from when I first moved in, I enjoyed living here. Now I can’t walk a few feet without running into a dead roach. The hallways are dirty and the safety of the building is poor.
Best location, price, and one of the nicest buildings in Downtown. The South side of the building is perfect for plants. Would certainly recommend if you want to be close to everything and maintain privacy.
I’ve lived here for a few years and it has been the best place to live! The Wilson Agency used to be “Urban Redevelopment Alliance” a couple years ago and there was a woman with them that was so difficult to work with. Now that the Wilson Agency has taken over that woman is gone and the management is fabulous. Terry is in charge of maintenance for their buildings downtown and he is great! He is available by text all the time and is very quick to fix anything you need. He is so reliable! Only bad thing about Paxton place is that the walls between the units are super thin and you can hear your neighbors conversations especially in the bedrooms.
I cannot urge you enough to avoid Paxton Place and any other Wilson Agency property. The Wilson Agency is an uncooperative company who has extremely poor communication with their tenants and at their tenants expense. Throughout my time at Paxton Place they provided extremely poor directions regarding any kind of policies that they requested tenants follow, including move-in/move-out policies despite my own attempts to continuously reach out to them. They were slow to respond to a water leak in my kitchen and bathroom ceiling and although the leak was not my fault the cost to fix it was taken out of my security deposit. There were also additional hidden charges taken out of my security deposit when I moved out that I was never notified of until I received the receipt. I would highly recommend you avoid Paxton Place and The Wilson Agency. There are much better companies in the area for you to rent from.
I'm very pleased living here. Most neighbors keep to themselves since the building is primarily all busy, young professionals. The building is clean, and the staff is very efficient. Downsides are the hallways are especially loud; don't try holding a private conversation in the hallway or living room because the entire building will hear. Also parking is not included in the rent, so if you want a close spot downtown it's $30.
