Property Ratings at Pennsylvania House
I haven't spent the night in my apartment in over a month because my unit is infested with roaches. I finally threw in the towel when I had a roach crawl up my leg while working from home. I have lived here for five years, loved it and never had any issues until Lenkin management took over. Now my apartment smells like marijuana in the evenings, they increased my rent by 6%, and I have roaches running around. Please reconsider calling this place home. It's a headache that you don't want to deal with.
Property Manager at Pennsylvania House, Responded To This Review
Dear Melissa, We understand your concerns, but The Lenkin Company has pest control available every week. In the last two month we've noted that you've signed up for pest control 2 times. We are happy to keep your apartment on the list for continued treatment every week. Please reach out to your Community Manager to be added to the list. We also understand that you are upset about your rent increase, however during the 2 years of COVID, you did not receive an increase. As for the marijuana smell, the District of Columbia has de-criminalized the use of personal marijuana and The Pennsylvania House is not a smoke free building. We hope that we can resolve your pest control problems quickly and you will once again enjoy living at The Pennsylvania House. Please reach out to the office with any other concerns as we would be happy to chat more with you.
I lived at 2424 Penn for almost two years and enjoyed living there. The leasing office and front desk staff were great. I chose the apartment for the location to downtown D.C. and Georgetown. I would recommend 2424 Penn to my friends who want an apartment with a great location and great staff.
This place was great to live in until the Lenkin company took over. I lived there for two years prior to the Lenkin company's take over. Since moving out they've refused to send me my security deposit. The property manager gave me a corporate number to call and basically said the situation was out of his hands. DO NOT LEASE WITH THEM.
My first interaction was with the leasing consultant... then the property manger who was so kind and thoughtful. I asked so many questions and she had a answer for them all!! I would recommend this wonderful community to my family and friends. All stars!!
I was speaking with my Property Manager Charisma today along with some other residents during her daily morning greetings with us and she explained how someone wrote a review saying she was a terrible manager and needs to be replaced. This is the furthest from the truth! Charisma cares about her residents which is not easy to find. I have lived here for 4 years and Charisma is the best manager that this building has seen. When she arrived she updated the hallways, fitness center, and leasing office. The biggest update of them all was the vibe of the building. Charisma is always smiling and will speak even if she sees you on the street. If you Place a service request she will have her guy there in no time to get it taken care of. She ensures the building is maintained and even vaccums the hallways to ensure it’s clean if her team needs help. She know everyone by name including all of the dogs! Please do not listen to these terrible reviews. It’s clear that it’s something personal and I guarantee 99% of us residents love her!
Poor management in handling maintenance problems or concerns. The manager makes you feel its your fault , she has an attitude problem and she is not helpful at all. She makes you feel you are the only one complaining when other people have similar problems and complaining also. She needs to be replaced for someone helpful to handling problems effectively, correctly and in a nice way. After all, we are the customers that are paying her salary.

Dear Joe, Thank you for your review. I deeply apologize that you feel this way. We really strive to make all residents happy and deliver the best customer service possible. I encourage all feed back as that is how we can work towards improving any problems that we may have in our building. I have attempted to look you up in our system to reach out to you directly in hopes to apologize and to go over any concerns related to our service and your maintenance requests however I have not been successful. If you have a chance I would love to speak with you directly. I can be reached at 202-448-0794. Best Regards, Charisma Spriggs General Manager
This building has been the worst living experience I have had in DC, and I have lived here for many years. First, I signed a lease and almost as soon as I moved in, construction began on the building. They knew this construction was going to be happening before I moved in, but they did not tell me that there would be any construction, and had I known, I absolutely would not have lived here. Why? Because the construction started at 8am (it got pushed back to 8:30 after a few months) and would continue until 3pm. It was DRILLING into the wall AS LOUD AS HUMANLY POSSIBLE. It's so loud that I couldn't have a phone conversation in my home, could not watch tv, and could not listen to music when it was happening because all of my devices couldn't play over it even at full volume. It woke me up in the morning every single morning 5 days a week. The construction happened/is happening from the summer 2016 to summer 2017, so literally for my entire lease. Along with this, the building turned off the air conditioning on October 1st and turned it back on May 1st. DC stays in the 80 degree range until late November sometimes and this year, there were 3 weeks in April that was in the 80s a lot. The building next door had air conditioning for these days. All of my friends and coworkers apartments had air conditioning when it was in the 80s. But our building did not. I remember waking up one morning in mid-October when it was 92 degrees in a pool of sweat to a man on a scaffolding outside my window drilling into the brick wall, hammering as loud as it could possibly be and thinking wow, I pay $1900 for a 1 bedroom apartment to be so uncomfortable. The property manager will make you feel so terrible if you try to discuss some of your concerns. I walked in to tell her that I was a little upset about the lack of air conditioning and the incredibly loud construction. She told me that I was the only person who has ever complained and that DC law says she does not have to provide air conditioning between October and May (this is why I asked friends and found out they had air conditioning). I also found out that many of my neighbors had complained and that she also made them feel that they were the only ones who had complained. I'm currently in the process of moving out of this building, and I am so happy I am leaving. This entire year, this building has been absolutely impossible to live in. If you are looking to move to Foggy Bottom, I highly recommend looking elsewhere.
Property Manager at Pennsylvania House, Responded To This Review
Thank you for your review. I apologize for the noise that took place during construction. I am aware that is was a major inconvenience and am extremely grateful for everyone patience and that it is now complete. Unfortunately there was no way to work around it as the building was in need of façade work. During that time there were many unhappy residents and more than one complaint so I apologize if there was some miscommunication there which led you to think you may have been the only one complaining. I value all feed back as that is what helps us make our community better. In reference to switching on the air conditioning, we are required by law to provide heat to all apartments home starting no later than October 15 and ending no later than May 1st. I hope you enjoy your new place of residence and please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns. Best Regards, Charisma Spriggs General Manager 202-448-0794
I've lived here for 3 years and love it. There is very limited access into the building and you have to use a key to get into the building then a separate key to enter your room. I live by myself and feel very safe. The best part of living here is definitely the location. Its a block away from the Foggy Bottom metro stop and about an 8 minute walk to Georgetown where there are hundreds of shops and restaurants. The gym is 24 hours and has decent equipment. The business center is great because you can use their printer and paper (and noone is ever in there) There is a market in the lobby with wraps, drinks, coffee, and wine so its very easy to grab a quick coffee on my way to work, So far I have no complaints living here.
