Not even 1 month into living here, but I am already loving it! Got settled in as quickly as I could and only need a few more household items plus groceries would be helpful! However, I also look forward to trying out the restaurants nearby as I have already been able to try out Wheelz Pizza, The Dumpling Lady, Co-Op, & Pins Mechanical for starters so I haven't made it very far!

The penrose is in a great location with tons of shops and restaurants that you can walk to The parking is limited tho and people over park in the compact spots which make it even harder to find spots

Very good so far recently moved in and it looked like no one even lived here before me. Front office very nice and helpful. Only reason it’s getting one less star is the key did not work when I moved in, which was quite a bit of an inconvenience with two dogs in the hallway, but the maintenance man was lovely and tried his best to fix it.

This place is incredible!! Great surrounding area and so much to do right inside the apartment. Also the free coffee in the lobby every morning is better than I could have imagined.

I absolutely LOVE this apartment complex! They have several community events every month, tons of amazing amenities, and SO dog friendly! All of the workers know my pup, Dakota, by name and love to give her all the pets when they see her in the dog park. The maintenance workers are amazing and so friendly and get the job done ASAP! I couldnt have asked for a better 1st time apartment experience!

The location of the apartment is amazing because there are so many restaurants, bars, and shops with in walking distance but the floor plan is a wierd layout

The Penrose is in a great location in the south end close to the light rail and many bars / restaurants. It’s a new building, but showing signs of wear and tear due to cheap materials used in construction. Rent is expensive, well above median in Charlotte for similar apartments and you must sign leases for over 1 year at a time or face 20% or more rent increases. Par for the course for Greystar.

The staff is totally lost in their own policies. Good luck ever getting any sleep as it’s just fraternity party most nights and stomping on the floor above you. They’ll nickel and dime you for every little thing. Whatever base rent is add about 200 as they’ll include trash, HOA, Pet, building fees, administrative fees etc. Nice building though

The Penrose has been amazing! The location is great and you are about a 10-minute walk from great bars and restaurants. The leasing agents are so friendly and extremely helpful when I was moving in! Highly recommend checking out the Penrose if you're moving.

The luxurious 5-Star Amenities and welcoming Staff make living in an Apartment Complex much more enjoyable than my past experiences! The Maintenance Crew is extremely responsive. However, the Parking Garage has been a nightmare; surprised it was designed this way as many "Compact" Cars do not fit and have to squeeze tightly in or occupy two. Residents are respectful for the most part, minus leaving Dog Waste/Trash in the stairwell. Walls are less insulated than I expected because you can hear everything when it gets rowdy on weekends. Thankful the never-ending Alarm situation seems to have finally resolved; I am sure the Fire Department also didn't appreciate coming out and investigating 5 times last Winter. 24/7 Security Concierge/Cameras would also make me feel safer, not only in the Parking Garage, but also the hallways, considering packages have gone "missing." All of that being said, most of the pros outweigh the cons. The newness and aesthetically pleasing Building Design/Location overall help justify the cost of living and I enjoy being near all the SouthEnd action!

This complex is way too expensive for there to always be fire alarms going off in the middle of the night. Last week it went off for 4 hours and last night went off from 12:30-2am. The employees won’t do anything to fix it either, they don’t care as they don’t have to listen to it at night.

Even during the Covid lockdown, my move to the Penrose was smooth and easy. The management team have always been available to assist with any concerns, and as a whole, the complex has been clean and a safe environment.

I love every part of living at the Penrose. The leasing and maintenance staff are incredibly friendly and helpful and continue to go above and beyond in making this feel like a home (including helping me lift my chunky senior dog into my car, locating lost packages, and letting me use the craft space at all hours for my work). Plus every resident has a cute dog and lets you pet them.

This is a fantastic location with trendy restaurants, bars, breweries and speakeasies that we can walk to and only 5 minutes drive to uptown. The building is cleaned daily and facilities include espresso machine, saltwater pool, fire pit, dog park and two grilling areas. This is a new place that is still working out a couple of kinks but it is worth having a little patience to be in the most up and coming area of the city with new businesses opening every week. The renewal offer from management was extremely reasonable.

I have been living here for over a year and renewed my lease. When Matrix welcomed us, everything was great, honestly no complaints with them. Events were fun, service was quick and professional. However when management switched to Greystar things have been subtly poorer, but not bad. I still love being here, the amenities are great, made some awesome friends, the location is perfect, and so is the size and layout of my apartment. Would strongly consider living here if you were actively looking.

I’ve lived here for about 10 months now and am pretty happy with my experience. New management is fine, but not as good as old management; all decisions seem to come down to money and not necessarily residents’ best interest. For example, new management introduced reserved parking spots in the garage for an additional $50 each month, which means I rarely get to park on my floor. There are also no longer complimentary towels in the fitness center. Not huge issues, but I do miss those special touches that the complex once had. Pros: - Beautiful apartments with ample storage - Convenient package lockers - Very quiet! I live on the fourth floor and while there is some construction noise during the day, it’s reasonable for the area. - LOCATION! There are so many restaurants and bars within walking distance and the rail trail is great. Cons: - The parking garage is poorly designed. It’s extremely tight to navigate and I dented my door near the entrance when I was avoiding an oncoming car a few months ago. The reserved spots make it hard to find a space on my floor and most of the non-reserved spots are compact/weirdly-angled. - Some residents do not pick up after their dogs. - There have been issues with fire alarms going off frequently, at odd times. - Management is slow to respond to requests. Overall, it’s a good complex! I would still choose this complex, knowing what I know now.

I’ve generally had a great experience living here. I did have some issues with a leak in my apartment and my washing machine needing to be replaced, but the maintenance team was able to fix both. It was frustrating to be without power/Wifi while they were fixing the water leak but I was able to manage. I live in the 4th floor and never hear my neighbors or the people below me. There was a terrible noise problem for weeks with the building across the street. They were dropping off materials and working in the middle of the night. It wasn't the Penrose's fault, but it was definitely not best sleeping situation during that time. My view from my apartment itself is the back of a building that is pretty run down/ has trash. I don't love my personal view but the surrounding area is great walking distance to local spots. The rooftop lounge, gym and pool area are great. The parking garage has been the biggest problem for me. The spots seem extremely small/narrow (my car doors have dings on them since I moved in due to people banging their doors into cars) and they now do priority parking for all close spots to doors. I rarely can find a spot on my floor and need to park up 1-2 floors and there aren’t elevators to take you down. It seems to always happen when I have a ton of things to carry! I customized my apartment with a charcoal accent wall in the kitchen and it feels like my home! I highly suggest painting accent walls when moving in. I feel like the look/feel of the apartment and complex fits my personality well and was an easy adjustment.

I love living here! I have lived here for almost a year and just resigned. The interior of the apartments are really nice. They are in the best location, walking distance to everything. The only suggestion I have is to add more seating to the pool area.

We have loved living here for the past few months. Leasing office staff is quick, helpful and very accommodating. The apartments are some of the prettiest in South End and we love living right off the dog park!

I could not be happier with my decision to move into The Penrose! Not only did they have the best floor plans, but their amenities and common areas are well decorated and homey! There is an amazing rooftop lounge with spectacular views of uptown, 24hr gym, art rooms, pool, and more. Honestly the cherry on top has been the staff. They are so helpful and genuinely care about resolving any issues. They go above expectations and even spoil us with events and gifts on occasion! All apartment complexes are pretty competitive and offer the same amenities, but the staff and the level of service you receive is what really matters in the end. 5 stars ?? ?? ??????!

Good location, but very poor construction and noise insulation. I had to move my bed into the living room in order to avoid noise from my neighbors.

The complex looks beautiful and it sounds like the features are great. But the number of issues are growing. The garage has had multiple break ins, is regularly full, and wasn’t designed for the number of full size vehicles per floor. The new management’s answer is to charge for reserved spots instead of fixing the issues. There is valet trash but they don’t adhere to the listed times. The dog park is constantly a mess. The fire alarm goes off at all hours. They say they are addressing it but it doesn’t seem to be the case. Maybe this will change, but right now I would say look somewhere else until the issues are truly fixed.
